As Owen on The CW’s Nikita, Devon Sawa has always been something of mystery. Yet he is one of Nikita’s (Maggie Q) most trusted confidantes now that there is a new Division running things and Michael (Shane West) is removing himself from field duty. Owen is stepping in as Nikita’s right-hand man on missions, which Sawa said will create a kind of fish-out-of-water experience for his character, as well as some room to play with new dynamics among all of the characters.

“We have this one scene in the beginning where we walk into an art gallery, and Owen’s all [puffed up], and Michael has to kind of say to him ‘Hey man, this is how you have to go in.’ Because you know, Michael’s the James Bond, and Owen is kind of a thug,” Sawa told Celebuzz.

“He has to learn to work as a part of the team and how to take orders. Taking orders from Michael is probably the toughest [adjustment], but he’ll do it because these are his friends; he and Nikita have such a history, they have each others’ backs; and he needs to step up and help here.”

Sawa admitted that Owen definitely still has some hesitations about working within this system at all, because he is so used to being on his own. In fact, in what Sawa is shooting right now, he shared he is still playing Owen with some hesitations based on what he experiences on these missions.

“He’s kind of like Nikita’s sidekick at first. He goes out into the field with her because Michael can’t, and they have history, so they work well together, but he still doesn’t love that he has to answer to her. [Then] there comes a mission in a few episodes where he does work with Alex, and it’s different because they have to feel each other out a bit more,” Sawa said.

“There’s an episode where I am interrogating Ari, and until then [Owen] had kind of forgotten about the things from Episode 4 with Amanda; they were out of his mind. But Ari brings them all up again, and Owen really goes after him. He gets some answers, but there’s a lot Ari still holds back,” Sawa revealed.

Sawa shared that he is at the point right now where he is waiting to receive an episode that he thinks will provide major insight into Owen but potentially change the way his character is viewed, as well. He has been kept in the dark as much as the audience, though he is confident Nikita’s executive producer Craig Silversteinand writing staff has been planning the reveal for awhile. They just don’t want Sawa too know too much too soon.

“You literally just wait to get the script. You have your laptop or your iPad or whatever, and it beeps, and it’s usually like one in the morning, and you look, and you know you should be sleeping, but you can’t wait to read it,” Sawa said

“I would rather not know, and I know Craig and the writers want us to not know, because they don’t want us to play things certain ways too early or start steering something one way. It helps with the element of surprise if the actors don’t know right away.”

Every season of Nikitadelivers an impressive amount of stunts and a high body count to match, but given how much Owen is being integrated and cemented into a part of the team, as well as the fabric of the series, Sawa has to feel pretty safe, right?

“I know there will be blood — on both sides. Craig and the writers wouldn’t have it any other ways, so I honestly don’t know. But I hope so! I hope to talk to you again next season!”

Nikita fans should be thrilled that Devon Sawa is finally returning to The CW spy drama on Friday’s episode, “Consequences.” The star has been promoted to a series regular for this season and Sawa says that he can’t take all the credit for the fan movement to bring him back.

“I think it’s all [executive producer] Craig Silverstein that kind of did that,” Sawa tells Celebuzz.

“I mean the way he just dropped Owen in at the right time as kind of a wildcard character is just kind of brilliant,” he continues. “I mean that’s why fans love Owen so much is because he just pops in for a couple episodes here and there and creates tension and havoc and does a bunch of action stuff and helps out Nikita and makes Michael rub his temples a lot. That’s why fans kind of dig him.”

Celebuzz spoke with the actor about Owen’s return, his relationship with Nikita (Maggie Q) and more planned entanglements ahead this season.

Celebuzz: What do you enjoy the most about playing Owen?
Devon Sawa: What drew me to this series the most is the action. I mean I have been training in MMA and I’ve always been really fond of doing my own stunts and my own action stuff and my own physical stuff. So when I saw the pilot — I saw that before going in to read for this role — it was just my kind of action. It was something I hadn’t done before. This Owen character was different from every other character I’ve ever played. It was just something I really wanted to do.

CB: What can you tell us about Owen’s return and how Amanda (Melinda Clarke) is involved?
DS:Everybody’s kind of been wondering where he’s been. I think I can reveal that Amanda had stashed him away in a Russian prison. She’s got some other stuff with him. We’re going to start this storyline between Owen and Amanda. She’s got some secrets. She’s done some stuff. So, that all starts in this episode. It’s really exciting.

So, he goes away to this Russian prison and when he comes back I guess everything has changed and it blows his mind. Division is now run by other people, there’s no more Percy. He didn’t know that while he was in there. Then on top of all that, Amanda’s got this huge secret she’s going to drop on him.

CB: Where does Owen and Nikita stand now, especially with their crazy history?
DS: There’s a little spark between Owen and Nikita… You never know what could happen with Owen and Nikita. We’ll see where that goes. Also, this is the first time in this episode where Owen meets the Alex character. We’re going to see if there’s any sparks over in that department. It’s like Craig says, ‘Owen is just a complete wildcard.’

CB: What else can you tell us about upcoming episodes?
DS: The fifth one gets even crazier. Then down the line, there’s one episode that’s just going to blow people away. I can’t remember whether it’s six or seven, but people are just going to be like, ‘What?’ It’s exciting. It’s exciting to see how people are going to react to all this stuff.

CB: Wonderful. So, what have you been doing in your time away from Nikita?
DS: There’s a movie coming out that’s untitled at the moment. It used to be called The Sibling. But, it’s not called that anymore. It’s going to be a limited theatrical release opening in January or February, I believe. I’ve seen it, I like it. It’s with Mischa Barton and the great Michael Clarke Duncan. It was his last movie. There’s a couple other things I’m working on. Hopefully, I’m going to be able to go do a movie during my hiatus between Season 3 and Season 4 of Nikita. I’m busy right now. It’s great. It’s a good spot to be in.

For fans of the title character and Michael’s (Shane West) love affair on The CW’s Nikita, Season 2’s ending couldn’t have been any better. But, star Maggie Q reveals it actually could have.

“We had an even stronger, sweeter scene at the end of the second season that got cut,” the series’ 33-year-old star reveals at San Diego Comic-Con.

“Oh, TV, 42 minutes,” she bemoans. DVD extra, perhaps?

So, what will change the couple’s romantic bliss on Season 3?

The couple, dubbed “Mikita” by adoring fans, goes into the next season solid and something unexpected and “cool” happens in the first episode back. Yet, it’s a whole new world on Season 3 when Nikita is co-leader of Division and the kick-ass Honolulu native says that the couple will face some bumps in the road from an old foe.

“It’s gonna suck. Nikita has a villain in this season that’s unlike any other villain that we’ve had,” she says. “Percy had an agenda. Percy’s agenda was always the No. 1 priority and Nikita was something that got in the way… There was no personal, ‘I hate Nikita.’”

“With Amanda, this is pure hatred, vengeance,” she continues. “She doesn’t have any other goal. Amanda wants to hurt Nikita. And hurting Nikita means, everybody knows, means hurting people around her. And that’s not good for Nikita and I don’t think she realizes what’s coming.”

Nikita returned to the stage at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday as its upcoming Season 3 represents a shift in the series when Nikita becomes co-leader of The Division, the organization she vowed to take down.

Moderated by HuffPost TV associate editor, Laura Prudom, the show started out the panel with a kick ass sizzle reel. Then, they broke some casting news.

When the series returns in October (shooting in Toronto begins in just a couple days), the crew will be tracking down rogue agents who the actors call by the unofficial title of “The Dirty 30.” And showrunner Craig Silverstein revealed its first “big bad” of Season 3: Alcatraz actor Jeffrey Pierce, who played Jack Sylvane on the FOX series.

What else did the showrunner and cast reveal at Con?

– Season 3 begins with a short time jump of about a month and the its theme is “family”. The offices have been redesigned since the raid and there’s a brand spanking new boardroom, which should allow for the crew to have those group scenes fans love so much.

– Devon Sawa, who plays Owen as been made a series regular and returns on the fourth episode. Silverstein says they’ll answer, “Where the hell was Owen?” After all, one would think he would have loved to take part in the raid. Apparently, he comes back with a mystery and an agenda. Some things never change.

– Noah Bean, who plays new Division co-leader, Ryan, has also been promoted to a series regular. Maggie Q says that one of the smartest things they did was to put Ryan in charge. “I think Nikita sitting behind the desk all day would be less interesting,” she jokes. Accordingly, Maggie and her team are the muscle while Ryan is the brains, Shane West explains.

– Alex’s romance will continue. Expect some increasing romance between Alex and Sean – even that first date they keep meaning to take! “Don’t talk about the sex slavery on the first date,” jokes Silverstein. This season as she takes the very public role as the head of her father’s company and it’s very transitional for her. She’s out in the open and cant’ go undercover. “She’s got to own it and I’m not sure how she’s going to handle it,” Lindsy Fonseca says.

– Tension between Ryan and Birkhoff? Clearly, Birkhoff had a taste of freedom on Season 2. Next season, he and new bossman Ryan will bump heads. Clearly, there’s some overlap in their computer skillsets.

– Amanda’s back! And her only desire is revenge on Nikita, reveals Melinda Clarke. There’s some changes. In addition to having a new look, she’ll have a new henchman – or should we say henchwoman? The show is looking for a female Roan!!! Plus, we’ll finally get to see some backstory on Amanda next season.

– Mikita goes strong until… Maggie Q says the couple starts off in a good place. Then, Silverstein adds, “Something happens that no one will see coming.” Could there be a darker side of Michael we haven’t seen yet? West says yes.

– Play that shower scene already. Silverstein probably rues the day he mentioned the idea of a “Mikita” shower scene. He’s says he’s working on it, but apparently it presents some production challenges to shoot in such a small space. But, don’t give up hope “Makit”a fans.

– Percy returns. Yes, he’s still dead. But, Silverstein mentions that he may come back in flashback.

The ratings are in and NBC may be happy about its decision to replace Ann Curry on Today. Apparently, all the speculation of her leaving didn’t give the show a boost last week as it tied with ABC rival, Good Morning America.
