What a year it’s been.

Like every year, 2012 was filled with its fair share of highs and lows.

Who could forget, for example, when the USA women’s gymnastics team flipped, landed and contorted their bodies on their quest to win Gold at the Olympic Games in London? Or what about that time former Republican candidate Mitt Romney threatened Big Bird’s job during one of the Presidential debates?

Or even that time when Prince Harry was photographed partying naked inside a hotel suite in Las Vegas?

Crazy, right?

Well, if you can believe it, those weren’t even the biggest pop culture moments of the year.

Nope, that title belongs to a very special singer who captivated every club and radio station around the world with his hit single and subsequent music video.

Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has certainly been a hot commodity since the Summer Olympics in which he captured 11 medals, the public’s admiration, several new sponsors and a lot of interest from various television networks and producers.

“I’ve been lucky enough to get all these proposals,” Lochte told Celebuzz during our live The Daily Buzz show of his TV opportunities.

The 28-year-old, who recently shot a cameo for The CW’s upcoming season of 90210, did tell us that there was one network in particular that he has his eyes on: The E! Network.

“Yeah, we’re talking to them right now,” Lochte said of the cable channel.

What would his E! show be about?

“Pretty much, they follow me on my normal day, just training, doing my own fashion line,” he described.

And as for why he thinks the show would be a hit against all the other reality fare on TV, the athlete said, “It’s real. It’s not fake or anything like that.”

“It’s gonna be me, me being myself,” he continues. “And I’m pretty much going to show the world that and my new fashion line.”

The athlete hasn’t been shy about his aspirations to break into reality TV and has made it clear on several occasions that he’d love to be on ABC’s The Bachelor and Dancing With the Stars.

“Whether it be The Bachelor, Dancing With the Stars or other sitcoms,” he told us. “You know what, me and my team are going to have to sit down and actually decide on what route we want to go to and what shows we’re actually going to do.”

If Lochte does land a reality show, he would join runner Sanya Richards-Ross, who was the first athlete from the London games to sign on for an unscripted TV show with WE.

And he’d be in a position that he has found himself in often: Behind his biggest Team USA competition, Michael Phelps, who has signed on to the upcoming season of Golf Channel’s The Haney Project.

Call him…maybe?

Olympic champion Ryan Lochte may have put the word out about his crush on Blake Lively during a recent interview on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, but apparently, it was to no avail.

“I haven’t heard from her,” Lochte told Celebuzz at Thursday’s WWE Summerslam kick-off party in Beverly Hills. ”I am still waiting. Hopefully. I will be one happy guy if that happens.”

What did Lochte say about the Gossip Girl star?

“She is gorgeous,” Lochte told Morgan. ”I would be like, ‘Hi … You want to go to an island with me?’”

He certainly has fierce competition: Lively, 24, has been dating Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds since last year.

Dreamgirls aside, Lochte has been busy settling into Hollywood. He recently shot a spot for an upcoming episode of 90210 — stumbling over his lines during filming – and is casting ambitions to be TV’s next Bachelor.

If he’s indeed chosen for the hit ABC reality show, Lochte says he wouldn’t hold anything back about his personal life.

“I wouldn’t be shy,” he says. “Because I’m pretty much comfortable in front of the cameras. If [The Bachelor] comes across — if they approach me with it — I’m definitely going to consider it. But I won’t commit to it until I talk to my family about it. Because they mean the world to me.”

And what if The Bachelor isn’t a go? No problem, says Lochte — he’ll still tackle Tinseltown.

“If I get more acting gigs like [90210], I will be more than happy to do it,” he says. “I’m pretty comfortable in front of a camera. It’s different, I like it,” he says. “Usually, I’m just swimming up and down a pool all day. So being able to get in front of a camera and act — it’s fun.”

Since returning from the Olympic Games in London, the 11-time medalist has certainly been making the rounds in Hollywood — he was even spotted at Wednesday’s L.A. premiere of Expendables 2, posing for photos with star Sylvester Stallone.

And he’s already marketing himself to the hilt: reports circulated on Friday that he plans to trademark his now-famous catchphrase, “Jeah!”

According to TMZ, Lochte wants to use the word on water bottles, sports hats, posters, calendars, swimsuits, sunglasses, workout DVDs and much more.

The WWE Summerslam bash, meanwhile, was held to celebrate the wrestling league’s “Be a STAR” anti-bullying campaign.

Attended by some of the WWE’s superstars, including Triple H and The Miz, the party also brought out celebs such as Piers Morgan, Kellan Lutz and Carmen Electra; DJ Pauly D provided music.

WWE’s Summerslam airs on pay-per-view August 19.

In every office a good intern is essential. So since Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report’s summer interns are leaving, Stephen Colbert had to find some above average replacements on Wednesday night.

Enter the “Fierce Five,” fresh off “some kind of study abroad program in London” where they learned a lot about the Olympics and Gold.

What task did Colbert make the Olympic Gold Medal Gymnasts do?

They delivered his pen like no other interns could.

With a cartwheel from Gabby Douglas, a back walk-over from McKayla Maroney, some floor moves from Aly Raisman, walkout back handsprings from Kyla Ross and a walking handstand from Jordyn Weiber, Colbert got his pen in style to loud cheers from the crowd.

At the Olympics in London, the girls won Team gold. “Flying Squirrel” Douglas also won the Individual All-Around gold medal. Massachusetts native Raisman won two individual medals: Gold in Floor and bronze in the Balance Beam. Though she landed a perfect vault in the team final, Maroney fell during the individual vault finals and ended up with a silver to which a thousand memes were inspired.

At the end of the clip above, you can see Maroney was “not impressed” with her new gig.

We’ve been on the reality show watch for Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte’s reality show announcement, but he surprised us by going a different route.

The CW announced on Tuesday that the 28-year-old will be guest starring on its upcoming fifth season of 90210 in an episode airing Monday, Oct. 29 at 8 PM.

What’s Lochte doing in Beverly Hills?

Well, he puts a proverbial toe in the scripted television waters by playing himself. The 11-time Olympic medalist will make a cameo as a guest at a resort where Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) and Max (Josh Zuckerman) are working on their relationship.

“When we found out Ryan Lochte was going to be in town and might appear on 90210, we felt like we’d won a gold medal! Team USA are all-stars in our book, and we’re so excited he’s making an appearance on the show,” executive producers Patti Carr and Lara Olsen said in a joint statement.

That’s the good news. Here’s the bad news: Sounds like he’ll be totally clothed.

“We only wish the episode was a surf event so we could have gotten him in the water, but he deserves a little rest on dry land,” the EPs added.

Last week, Lochte’s agent confirmed the swimmer was fielding several reality TV offers. And Lochte said on NBC’s Today that he wouldn’t mind dating on-camera for ABC’s The Bachelor or getting his groove on for Dancing With the Stars.

Lochte would be the first person to from this Summer’s Olympics to land a scripted TV role. As far as reality shows go, runner Sanya Richards-Ross was the first to sign on for an unscripted TV show with WE. And over the weekend, Lochte’s biggest Team USA competition, Michael Phelps, announced he’ll be learning golf on the upcoming season of the Golf Channel’s The Haney Project.

90210′s fifth season debuts Monday, Oct. 8 at 8 PM on The CW.

After much anticipation, the Spice Girls finally reunited on Sunday for an epic performance during the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London.

The all-girl group — comprised of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell — looked and sounded better than ever as they cruised into Olympic Stadium to belt out arguably their biggest hit ever, “Wannabe.”

Of course, this being one of the most sought-after reunions in recent music history, the Girls kept the party going for one more song, the uber-popular “Spice Up Your Life,” before bidding adieu.

The Spice Girls — who after their show partied until 6AM with fellow-performer Liam Gallagher, according to The Mirror — were just one of many performers to take part in Sunday’s dazzling ceremony. Among the others: boy band One Direction; George Michael; and — yep — Russell Brand.

After the show, Beckham tweeted a photo of the girls celebrating their big performance.

“We did it!! I love u girls so much!!!!! xxx vb” she wrote.

The 2012 London Games came to a close Sunday, but not before sending the Olympic flame to Rio de Janeiro in true spectacular fashion.

With show-stopping musical performances from One Direction, Spice Girls and, yes, even Russell Brand, no expense was spared for the big finish in the country’s capital.

1. One Direction Mania Rolls Into the Olympic Stadium

Taking a page out of U2′s “All Because of You” music video, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne performed their hit song “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” atop of a flatback truck driving along a roadway shaped like the Union Jack-flag. Though the feat was a little bit dangerous, the boys rocked it without messing up a single strand on their perfectly-coiffed hair.

2. Spice Girls Spice Up with Olympics

In paying tribute to England’s colorful music history, Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Chisholm reunited for the ultimate Spice Girls concert, featuring new performances of their hit songs “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life.” Even after all these years, they really, really, really want to zig-a-zig-ah.

3. George Michael Celebrates ‘Freedom’

After tweeting about his performance for days, George Michael took to the stage in grand fashion to sing his top 10 smash, ‘Freedom! 90.’ Twenty-two years later, Michael proved he still knows how to put on one heckuva show.

4. Russell Brand Is the Walrus

Wearing an outfit that looked like a mix between the Mad Hatter and Willy Wonka, comedian Russell Brand rocked out to the Beatles’ hit song ‘I Am the Walrus.’ The performance included — among other things — a psychedelic bus, as well as a megaphone that Brand used to sing into.

5. John Lennon Comes Alive

Though no holograms were used, John Lennon was brought back to life thanks to a 3D tableau late singer’s face using puzzle pieces. The performance was also accompanied by a children’s choir singing “Imagine.”

It’s another win for Team USA.

In one of the last Olympic events at the 2012 London Games, the U.S. men’s basketball team has defeated Spain and cinched their second consecutive gold medal this Sunday.

Though sport stars LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Andre Iguodala, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Deron Williams were highly-favorited to win, the game itself was almost too close to call during its last minutes.

Just how close?

Team USA defeated Spain with a final score of 107-100.

The match had celebrity spectators in the audience on the edge of the seat, including Arnold Schwarzenegger with his son Patrick, The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg, and David Beckham with kids Cruz and Romeo.

The Spaniards were awarded with silver medals while Russia took home the bronze.

Athletes from around the world were still giving it their 110 percent as the London Olympics wrapped up its final full day of games.

The United States continued to dominate in women’s basketball, while Mexico shocked spectators during the men’s soccer final.

On the track, Usain Bolt and Team Jamaica bested their personal time in the 4×100-meter relay.

1. Mexico Beats Brazil in Men’s Soccer.
Mexico finally nabbed its first Olympic gold medal thanks to their men’s soccer team. Oribe Peralta scored the first goal for the team a mere 29 seconds into the match at Wembley Stadium and added another in the second half. Mexico defeated the highly-favored Brazil in a 2-1 game.

2. U.S. Wins Gold in 10-Meter Platform Diving in More Than Two Decades.
America’s David Boudia became the first American to received a gold medal for 10-meter platform diving since Olympian Greg Louganis in 1988 during the Seoul Games.

3. Jamaica Breaks Its Own Relay Record.
The men’s 4×100-meter relay had everyone on the edge of their seats as Team USA was neck-in-neck with the previous world record. Though they put up a valiant effort — matching the previous best of 37.04 — Team Jamaica took it a step further by shattering its own best time. The team took home the gold with 36.84.

4. U.S. Nabs Gold in Women’s 4×400-Meter Relay.
Team USA continued to dominate in track and field as it nabbed a gold medal in the women’s 4×400-meter relay. Runner Sanya Richards-Ross and company set their season best time with a run of 3:16.87, winning by a total of four seconds. Silver medalist Russia edged out second runner-up Jamaica by .72 seconds.

5. Brazil Beats Out Fan-Favorite in Women’s Volleyball.
Though they lost the soccer final to Mexico, Brazil saw gold in the women’s volleyball final. The team beat out Team USA — who had been doing splendidly during the Games — in a 3-1 match. Japan took home the bronze.

6. Brigetta Barrett Sets a Personal Best.
U.S. track star Brigetta Barrett pushed herself and cinched a silver in women’s high jump, besting her previous record with 2.03 meters.

7. Team USA Remains Undefeated in Women’s Basketball.
Talk about balling! The U.S. women’s basketball team secured their fifth consecutive gold medal — and continued a victory spree that began in 1992 — after beating out France in a 86-50 game.

By most standards, the 2012 London Olympics were pretty epic for Team USA.

Between Missy Franklin’s incredible run in the pool to gymnast Gabby Douglas’ stunning performance in the Individual All-Around, stars were born, tears of joy were shed and history was made in just over two weeks of competition.

And we haven’t even mentioned Michael Phelps yet.

Of course, not everyone left London with 22 career Olympic medals. In fact, for every good performance by the Red, White and Blue, there were just as many hiccups, misfires and, in the case of the men’s gymnastics team, a whole lot of falls. (Seriously, what happened?!)

With his final Olympics behind him, Michael Phelps is taking on a new sport and he’s doing it for the Golf Channel’s cameras.

The cable network announced on Saturday that the most decorated Olympian in history with 22 career medals will be featured as a student on the fifth season of The Haney Project.

“I have traveled the world through swimming, but really haven’t had an opportunity to experience the world through my travels,” Phelps said in a statement. “As I enter this next chapter of my life, I think I will be able to shift my competitiveness to anything I put my mind to and golf is one of the things I want to focus on.”

Phelps makes his reality TV series debut in February 2013. He’ll take on the new sport with the help of Tiger Woods’ former coach and Golf Channel personality Hank Haney.

“If I have a goal of dropping a certain amount of shots, or working on my short game or putting, those things are going to keep me motivated and fire me up and keep me excited,” the 27-year-old swimmer said. “I want to play all the world’s great golf courses, but I’d like to play them well. I’m excited about this project with Golf Channel and I’m looking forward to working with Hank and see what we can do together on the golf course.”

Production on the fifth season of The Haney Project begins in September.

“We look forward to chronicling Michael’s transition from the most-decorated Olympian in history to a frustrated golfer trying to enjoy playing the world’s greatest golf courses,” Golf Channel President Mike McCarley said. “Golfers everywhere will be able to relate to his quest to improve his game.”

The news follows reports that Phelps’ biggest opponent from Team USA, Ryan Lochte, is currently fielding reality show offers.

Though, Phelps finds himself with another silver medal for signing on to a reality show. He’s the second person from this Summer’s Olympics to make a reality TV deal as runner Sanya Richards-Ross was the first to sign on to a reality series for WE.

After upping his medal count to a whopping 22 during the 2012 London Olympics, Michael Phelps jetted off with pals for a guys-only getaway in the Maldives.

How is Phelps celebrating his record-breaking success?

In TMZ‘s exclusive photo, a swimsuit-clad Phelps poses with his fellow Speedo-wearing, buff buddies on the sand in Maldives.

The gang is living the life at a luxury resort in Ari Atoll, according to a Maldives travel site. Taking in the sights and the turquoise waters of the Asian island, Phelps has been lounging, boating and boozing, a source told TMZ.

But where’s Phelp’s model girlfriend, Megan Rossee?

According to TMZ, the Olympian opted to skip town without his new Los Angeles-based lady love, instead choosing to fete his victories with friends with a tropical vacation.

As the 2012 London Olympic Games wind down, world records and historic moments continue to be made.

Great Britain’s field hockey had a ground-breaking Friday, with the women’s team grabbing its first medal in 20 years.

1. Team GB field hockey took home the bronze.
For the first time in 20 years, the British field hockey team took home a medal. And, of course, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, was on hand to cheer on her Team GB.

2. America’s track and field women broke world record.
In Olympic Stadium, Team USA’s top female sprinters outpaced their Jamaican competitors to earn gold in the prestigious 4 x 100-meter relay. The team of Tianna Madison, Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight, and Carmelita Jeter set a world record of 40.82, just ahead of the second-place Jamaicans, who posted a 41.41 time. Ukraine captured the bronze.

3. But the favored U.S. men fell to Bahamas.
Team USA usually dominates the men’s 4×400 relay. But they were run down by the Bahamas in the stretch, meaning that the island nation’s male athletes earner their first-ever gold medal. The US held on for silver, while Trinidad and Tobago took bronze.

4. USA’s basketball sets sights on gold.
In their semifinal match-up against Argentina, America cruised to a 109-83 victory. They will face Spain in the final, who won a defensive battle with Russia 67-59.

5. America increases its lead in medal count.
The United States upped its lead over China in both medal counts: 94 medals to China’s 81, and 41 gold medals to China’s 37. With 63, Russia holds third in total medals; and Great Britain, with 25, ranks third for gold medals.

Kate Middleton was back to her cheerleader ways as she watched Great Britain grab its first field hockey medal in 20 years on Friday.

Dressed in a white Team GB sleeveless polo shirt and knee-length skirt, the Duchess of Cambridge — accompanied by a couple of bodyguards, of course — applauded from the stands as the British women’s field hockey team won the bronze medal in the final match, beating New Zealand 3-1 at Riverbank Arena.

It certainly isn’t the first time Prince William‘s wife has showed support for her home country at the Olympics.

And Middleton has perhaps served as somewhat of a good luck charm.

Making the rounds at the 2012 games, Middleton has seen Team GB rack up its most successful results in years. As Olympics 2012 near its close, Great Britain is already taking home 59 medals.

After Middleton jumped for joy as the British field hockey team took the bronze, the Duchess congratulated the players on their victory and commented on the great atmosphere in the stadium.

As a former field hockey player herself, Middleton was no doubt thrilled to be on hand as the team made history.

On Thursday, Middleton and her brother-in-law, Prince Harry, made the rounds at the Olympic Park together, sharing laughs as they greeted members of Team GB who have already won medals.

Gabby Douglas and Missy Franklin are just two of the people who became household names over the last two weeks, all thanks to their incredible runs at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Indeed, Douglas and Franklin captivated TV audiences around the world with their Gold medal victories, and all eyes will remain on over the next four years, as the 2016 Games in Rio slowly approaches.

Michael Phelps has gone from having one new girlfriend to two!

When it was revealed this week that besides winning six medals at the 2012 London Olympics, Phelps, 27, had landed another new prize — stunning model Megan Rossee – the world went into to overdrive.

While unknown at the time, the 25-year-old from Los Angeles, Calif. has become the center of attention.

But it seems Rossee’s newfound fame has its pitfalls.

What problems is Rossee facing thanks to her famous sporting beau?

Phelps’ model girlfriend has become on online sensation going from having a few hundred followers on her Twitter to thousands since August 6.

So popular is the model, someone has even created a fake twitter account and is pretending to be her. So, lucky Phelps’ now gets two super hot girlfriends.

For the record, the real Rossee has more than 6,800 followers while the fake Rossee — who calls themselves Megan Rosse — has just 191.

Celebuzz was the first to confirm the rumored romance between the model and the Olympian was true.

“Yes, it’s true,” said Rossee’s father, Wayne Rossee, who confirmed from his home in Lakewood, Calif.

“I haven’t met him yet. I will soon.”

Her father jokingly allowed Phelps off for not coming to meet the family yet: “He’s been kind of busy.”

Television producers are salivating over the big personalities (and hot bodies) of this summer’s Olympics. And Ryan Lochte is definitely fielding offers.

“We’ll see,” the 28-year-old swimmer told co-host Matt Lauer Friday on NBC’s Today. “We’ll see what happens. I’m definitely looking towards Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor, so we’ll see what happens.”

What did The Bachelor host Chris Harrison have to say about Ryan’s chances to be on the show?

It’s looking good for this summer’s five-time Olympic medalist on the ABC dating competition.

Harrison jokingly tweeted later Friday morning, “[Executive Producer Mike Fleiss] just told me he liked Ryan Lochte in his speedo so much he’s now on short list for #Bachelor.”

Apparently, Lochte’s grandmother got it wrong when she told Celebuzz recently that she didn’t think he’d be interested in reality television with his training schedule and goal of returning to the games in 2016.

But, there are definitely swimming pools in Hollywood… Plus, he has his eyes set on another glamorous career.

“I definitely want to go to L.A. That’s been a big goal of mine, getting into fashion,” the Florida resident says. “Because, you know what? That is my passion. When swimming’s all said and done, I definitely want to get into fashion and design my own clothing line.”

In a rematch of the 2011 World Cup Final, Team USA took control of the women’s soccer final to beat Japan 2-1. Carli Lloyd of New Jersey scored both goals, in the eighth and 54th minutes, respectively.

2.) Usain Bolt Triumphs Again
Usain Bolt set a new record on Tuesday by becoming the first runner to win back-to-back Gold medals in the 200-meter finals, finishing with a time of 19.32 seconds. Yohan Blake and Warren Weir, also of Jamaica, were awarded Silver and Bronze.

3.) United States Wins Historic Medal in Water Polo
The women’s water polo final ended with a first-ever victory for the United States, who crushed Team Brazil 8-5. Among the highlights: Maggie Steffens, who scored an impressive five goals.

4.) Decathlon Dominated By Ashton Eaton, Trey Hardee
Team USA won two additional medals in the decathlon finals thanks to terrific showings by Ashton Eaton and Trey Hardee, who finished in first and second place, respectively.

George Michael and The Who are among the latest acts rumored to be joining One Direction at the Olympic Closing Ceremonies Sunday night in London.

Though nothing has officially been confirmed, Michael went ahead and spilled the beans, anyway, tweeting Tuesday:

“Hey everyone, how are you. Spending most of the next week rehearsing like crazy for the Olympic closing ceremony…..”

He’s not the only one spilling the beans…

The band Muse told NME this week that they, too, will be taking part in the show.

“It’s not something we just did for the Olympics,” drummer Dom Howard revealed. “They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music, but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [playing the] closing ceremony, and they loved it. It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is.”

While full details on the sure-to-be lavish ceremony are being kept under wraps, a number of famous performers are expected to take part in the event. Among the many: Kate Bush; boy band One Direction; and a much-anticipation reunion of The Spice Girls.

Adele and Mick Jagger’s names have also floated around as possible additions to the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
