Adios, neon. The newest nail polishes are taking a richer turn.

Classic reds continues to be the season’s big color, with stars matching their crimson nails to their red pouts for a coordinated look. But really, any polish on the red-to-pink spectrum works this season. Not just for clothes, Oxblood is this season’s polish darling, offering an elegant alternative to red with a slightly edgier feel, while magenta has a more feminine feel but still makes a bold statement.

For the more daring,  jades, teals, and blues are just as big for nails as they are for your wardrobe. Or for a more toned-down approach, grays and mauves are fall’s new nail neutral.

If you’re looking to mix it up but you want something a little more feminine than blue or green, try a close cousin: Deep purple or plum will look sophisticated yet fresh on your fingertips.
