Fall 2013 Fashion Month has finally come to an end. It’s hard to believe that it was just over a month ago that fashion A-listers descended on the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week. From New York to London to Milan and finally Paris, the Fall 2013 runways were filled with inspiring new fashion and beauty trends. So as we say goodbye to the Fall 2013 runway shows and prepare to say hello to spring, we’re looking back at the Fall 2013 runway trends we’d (almost) be willing to skip spring and summer to wear now.

1. White Out

Far from a faux pas, wearing white after Labor Day has become the peak of chic. And in case you had any doubts left, winter’s crisp whites are back again for fall.

2. High Shine

Don’t stash those metallic pieces away for long. Shimmery shades and fabrics were one of the runways’ — and red carpet’s — biggest trends for 2012, and you can expect to see everyone from street stylers to stars sparkling through 2013. To update high-shine styles, designers at Milly, Alexander Wang, and Gucci among many others broke away from the traditional sleek metallics and opted to give the glossy treatment to bright colors and a range of textures for a futuristic look.

3. Oversized Outerwear

Another item you can recycle: last fall’s large-and-in-charge coats. Once again designers sent modern toppers with exaggerated silhouettes down the runways, ensuring space for plenty of layers come winter. Though the trend was spotted on countless runways, we  loved the fresh colors and embellishments on the supersized outerwear at shows like Celine, Rochas, and Chloe.

4. Mad for Plaid

If you do invest in a new coat for fall, make it a tartan topper with a modern silhouette like the ones seen at Celine. From classic tartans to bright updates on the preppy pattern, plaid is the print for fall. To liven up the look, consider the bright plaid skirts and tops sent down the runway at Milly, Calvin Klein and Saint Laurent.

5. Revenge of the ’90s

While Hedi Slimane’s grunge revival at Saint Laurent (formerly YSL) may have gotten most of the attention, he wasn’t the only designer who paid tribute to the ’90s. From the grunge styles seen at BCBG and Anna Sui to the minimalistic, oversized silhouettes at Lanvin, Stella McCartney, and more, the ’90s are alive and well for fall.

6. Touchable Texture

From fur, fur and more fur to feathers, chains and ruffles, fall’s clothes practically beg to be touched.

7. Blue Crush

Maybe it was the long winter that continued to plague showgoers in NYC, Milan and Paris, but the fashion industry seemed to have a serious case of the blues while designing the fall collections, with just about every shade of blue spotted on the runways. Keep your cobalt if you’re feeling bold, or choose your favorite shade, everything from pastel (yes pastels for fall, one of the runway’s unexpected trends) to royal and midnight blue were spotted.

8. Boxy Bags

The trend toward more structures satchels continues to evolve, with bags in just about every style and size at Kate Spade, Chanel and more taking on more box-like shapes for fall.

9. Real-Women Shoes

Fall’s footwear offers a welcome reprieve from the ever-taller, ever-harder-to-walk-in heels of the past several seasons. Designers had a more practical woman in mind when choosing shoes for their fall collections.  More manageable heels and platforms abounded, and even (gasp!) flats at shows like Burberry signaled this fall’s shoes were made for walking. But we also saw thicker and more rugged soles that seemed to be designed with a sportier woman in mind at Celine and Rochas. Cue the collective sigh of women around the world.

10. Sheer

Stars will continue to play peek-a-boo for the foreseeable future. See-through styles showcased varying degrees of skin at Gucci, BCBG and Givenchy among others. Though illusion necklines stuck around, we saw designers move away from cutouts for fall, and play with long sheer skirts and overlays for a less revealing look.

11. Spiffy Sweatshirts

One of our favorite fall trend was the movement toward comfort seen in everything from shoes to fall’s knitwear alternative — the sweatshirt. That’s right, sweatshirts become perfectly acceptable to wear for work as well as weekends. The updated versions seen at Alexander Wang, Elie Saab, Tibi and Stella McCartney are structured, not slouchy, and lend a modern feel to skirts and trousers.

12. Standout Suits

Over the past few seasons, designers have successfully made suits of every color and incarnation (shorts, skirts, pants) cool again. But for fall, the former workplace staple just got a little cooler. Special embellishments, textures, constructions and designs took fall’s suits from stylish to standout.

13. Over-the-Knee Boots

If you invested in a killer pair of over-the-knee boots despite the burning knot in your stomach created by the fear that they would be out of style next season, you can let out a huge sigh of relief (I did). Paired with everything from shorts and pleated skirts to sweater dresses, the thigh-skimming boots strutted down the runways at Philip Lim, Chanel, Celine and Tibi.

14. Pared-Down Peplums

Ditto on that fleeting trend fear for peplums. The bulge-disguising ruffle is back for another season. But the peplums spotted at Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein and Balenciaga had a slightly sleeker, more modern look that complemented the modern mood taht dominated many of the collections.

15. Elaborate Embellishments

In addition to playing with texture to add interest, designers went for more obvious forms of decoration, with statement-making add-ons dressing up coats at J.Crew and Celine, dresses at Alexander McQueen and Givenchy, and skirts at Burberry.

16. Pretty ‘N Pastels

Yep, as we mentioned earlier, pastels aren’t just for spring anymore. Designers broke down more of the old fashion rules by sending pastel coats, suits and dresses down the fall runways at Celine, Chloe, Lanvin and Rochas. And you know what? Instead of looking out of place, these pale pinks, blues, greens and purples felt surprisingly refreshing. Here’s to lightening up a little for fall.

17. Boyfriend Pants

Move over boyfriend jeans. Your work pants just got a bit baggier — and a whole lot cooler. The slouchy styles at Hermes, Alexander Wang and more are far more forgiving than the skinny, cropped and wide-leg pants of seasons past. Not only do they help to hide any (real or perceived) wobbly bits but they also don’t require uncomfortable underwear, if you know what I’m saying.

18. Glam Gypsies

There was a distinct folklore vibe spotted in the colorful patterns and rich textures and embroidery at Givenchy, Anna Sui and Christopher Kane. But paired with leather, sheer panels, and modern silhouettes, the look was fashion-forward, not costume-y.

19. Funky Florals

You’ll be happy to know that florals have held onto their position at the top of the prints pyramid for another season — which is good news for those of us who invested in more fall-appropriate florals last year. As a not-so-girly girl, I’m loving the more modern, less romantic vibe of the blooms we saw at Lanvin, Chanel,  Givenchy and more.

20. Supersized Styles

Taking another cue from the ’90s, we saw exaggerated proportions replace the curve-hugging looks of last season. Though this could easily have been a runway-only trend, designers at Celine, Calvin Klein and Stella McCartney contrasted the bigger proportions with simple silhouettes and palettes for an incredible wearable (and comfy) look.

21. Statement Shoulders

Complementing the architectural silhouettes we saw coming down the runway were exaggerated shoulders. But unlike the padded jackets and dresses of the ’80s, the sculpted shoulders seen everywhere from Rebecca Minkoff and Balenciaga to Chanel were much less poufy and far more subtle and rounded for a modern, yet feminine finish.

Although she didn’t win the Oscar, Jessica Chastain pretty much owned Paris Fashion Week.

Indeed, the Zero Dark Thirty star hit all the City of Light’s hottest shows; and with the exception of maybe one look (sorry, Givenchy!), she managed to outshine just about every other stylish star at the shows.

How did the two-time Oscar nominee become fashion’s biggest star?

Check out the seven (yep, seven) wardrobe changes that helped Chastain beat out Paris Fashion Week veterans like Kate Moss, Jessica Alba and Vanessa Paradis to become the front row’s best-dressed star.

1.) Victor & Rolf

Chastain kicked things off with a coup, so to speak, in this sophisticated all-black ensemble by Victor & Rolf. The winning touch: a sleeveless waistcoat, which blended perfectly with her menswear-inspired cigarette trousers.

2.) Givenchy

While the avant-garde pants she wore to the Givenchy show were a bit much, Chastain wins points for taking a major fashion risk here. Besides, her sleek strands quickly made us forget about any thigh-baring sheer weirdness going on below the waist.

3.) Yves Saint Laurent

As we learned at the SAG Awards, Chastain can never go wrong in a red dress. Which is exactly what she proved yet again at the YSL show, in this plunging vintage number that mixed classic with a little edge.

4.) Chanel

Nothing says “Parisian chic” quite like Chanel — which might explain why Chastain looked so wonderful in this simple black-and-white ensemble. Here, she mixes an ruffled sheer white blouse and a black pencil skirt. The result? The kind of effortless elegance that makes us all wish we were French.

5.) Carine Roitfeld’s ‘CR Fashion Book’ Cocktail Party

Why Carine Roitfeld chose to profile Big Ang remains to be seen. In the meantime, we’re more than happy she invited Chastain to her cocktail party, allowing the actress another chance to show off her stunning style. The belted black dress was a bit more subtle than her other looks, but no less elegant.

6.) Louis Vuitton

If anyone can get away with wearing shorts to a runway show, it’s Jessica Chastain, which she did so brilliantly at Wednesday’s Louis Vuitton showcase. The unexpected choice of bottoms, plus, her bold blue bag, gave her monochromatic ensemble a fresh feel.

7.) Moncler Gamme Rouge

Chastain looked white-hot at the Moncler Gamme Rouge show on Wednesday, in an off-white lace cocktail dress and nude pumps. Topping off her tonal look was a quilted three quarter-length jacket, which had us wishing winter could stick around (just) a little longer.

Despite Anne Hathaway’s apology to the iconic fashion house for ditching her Valentino Oscars gown, the Les Mis star was noticeably absent from the front row at Valentino’s Fall 2013 ready-to-wear show today. Still, it was hard not to think of the Oscar-winner while watching Valentino’s Fall 2013 runway show, which included an array of red carpet-worthy gowns that had the actress’ name written all over them.

While we could see Hathaway wearing pretty much the entire collection, if any of these three gowns had been ready on time, she could have avoided the whole nipplegate/designer ditch fiasco and celebrated a best-dressed win in addition to her Oscar win.

Paired with Hathaway’s modern pixie cut and statuesque figure, and you have an instant best-dressed winner in this elegant embroidered gown.

Picture Anne in a strapless version of this nude lace gown, which has the subtle Victorian vibe Hathaway was channeling during her Les Mis promo tour.

The intricate embroidery on this blue-and-white stunner is so elegant and yet so fresh — it would have stood out for all the right reasons on the red carpet.

Blondes have more fun…at least at Paris Fashion Week.

Butter blonds Emma Stone, Amanda Seyfried, Taylor Swift, Chloe Sevigny, Chanel muse Poppy Delevingne, Alexandra Richards (daughter of Keith Richards), Rachel Zoe, Kate Moss and Glee‘s Dianna Agron arrived in Paris just in time for some of the week’s hottest shows.

Amping up the style front row the young starlets dazzled in the front row at Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Miu Miu, Elie Saab and Louis Vuitton, sporting some of the best styles of the week.

But the blondes didn’t have all the fashion fun!

Brunettes beauties Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayak, Olivia Palermo and Kristen Stewart — plus redheaded stunner Jessica Chastain — all got in on the front-row action for the Paris Spring 2013 collections.

Paris Fashion Week is in full-gear, with big-name designers known for drawing a star-studded crowd  — Chloe, Dior, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Nina Ricci — all showing their Spring 2013 collections.

Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lopez, Emma Stone, Olivia Palermo and Scarlett Johansson (who also attended an Obama fundraiser in Paris) have joined other stylish starlets in the City of Lights, amping up the front-row style quotient at the week’s hottest shows.

The the front-row fashion has been as good as the styles on the runway, with fashionable A-listers pulled out all the style stops.

What was everyone wearing?

Surprising us with her cheery style, Stewart looked polished in printed pants and a sunny jacket at the Balenciaga show.

Palermo was the picture of Parisian chic, dressed appropriately for the Dior Spring 2013 show in head-to-toe black Dior duds. Kate Moss also relied on a rotating collection of mostly black styles to get her through the week in style.

ScarJo and J.Lo went for ladylike glamour in white frocks. Johansson looked incredibly chic in a white sheath with sheer sleeves, while Lopez opted for a white lace mini dress for the Chanel show, which she attended with daughter Emma, who was pretty in pink, before slipping into a sexier red dress.

Stone arrived at the airport in style, donning skinnies and a tweed coat as she headed to the shows.

Leelee Sobieski turned fashion heads on Friday when she arrived in Paris for the Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2013 show at Paris Fashion Week.

The 29-year-old actress looked absolutely stunning in a red coat dress, accented with a silver belt and timber wolf pumps.

Sobieski finished off her polished look with a simple ponytail, as fans and photographers looked on.

The ‘Joan of Arc’ star wasn’t the only famous face at Dior on Friday.

The Christian Dior show also brought out the likes of Kanye West, Olivia Palermo, Robert De Niro, Rachel Zoe and Diane von Furstenberg.

If her wardrobe is any indication, Kristen Stewart has adopted a sunnier outlook these days. The Twilight star, who has been even more of a sourpuss than usual since splitting from Robert Pattinson, was all smiles at the Balenciaga fashion show in Paris on Thursday.

Trading her trademark tees, black leather jacket and skinny jeans for a more feminine ensemble, Stewart arrived at Balenciaga’s Spring 2013 show in black printed skinny pants and a sunny yellow leather jacket. Cool black booties and a dainty pendant finished her uncharacteristically polished look.

Even Stewart’s hair and makeup had a lighter feel…

The actress, who is the face of Balenciaga’s new perfume, looked radiant as she took a front-row seat at the fashion house’s Spring 2013 runway show.

Eschewing her usual black smoky eyeliner, Stewart went with more natural makeup, and even her hair seemed to have more life to it. The actress wore her auburn locks down in loose, layered waves that looked effortless — but not messy.

While rumors have been swirling that K-Stew and RPattz are talking again, whatever the reason behind her happier look, we’re big fans of it.

Salma Hayek proved that with her pretty face, she can rock pretty much any trend when she was spotted wearing a turban at Fashion Week in Paris, France.

The Grown-Ups star attended a fashion show with husband Francois-Henri Pinault, the CEO of PPR, a luxury fashion company that owns Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta. We’re sure that this star pair had the best seats at every fashion show!

The celebrated model and burlesque revivalist took to the catwalk on Wednesday as part of designer Jean-Paul Gauthier‘s show during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. And while clothes might have been the ostensible focus of the event, Von Teese’s pale backside seemed to be the main item on display.

Hope they kept the venue nice and warm; wouldn’t want Dita to catch a cold, running around half-naked like that.
