Summer’s about to kick into overdrive, which means it’s once again time for everyone to gather ’round and predict which song will dominate and define the next couple of months on the radio.

Song: ‘Blurred Lines’

Artist: Robin Thicke (feat. T.I. & Pharrell)

Analysis: This song was basically DOA about a month ago; but thanks to a quick performance on The Voice last week, it’s suddenly everywhere — including in our heads. While the actual quality of the song remains in question (that falsetto? really?), you can’t deny it’s catchy. Which is a good thing if you want to win this race.

Song: ‘Just Give Me a Reason’

Artist: P!nk (feat. Nate Ruess)

Analysis: P!nk’s latest take on adult angst has already struck a chord with music audiences; it topped the Billboard Hot 100 a couple of weeks ago, and lingered a bit longer. Like ‘Blurred Lines,’ ‘Reason’ has a catchy hook of up-and-down notes, and the collaboration between P!nk and Nate Ruess is inspired, if random. We just hope it doesn’t encourage people to pay more attention to fun.

Song: ‘Can’t Hold Us’

Artist: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Ray Dalton)

Analysis: Given that we live in a world in which a Black Eyed Peas song can top the charts for months, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that ‘Can’t Hold Us,’ the latest song from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, is doing well. But that doesn’t mean it’s any good. With a frantic beat and spastic melody, the song has the same effect as putting all of Sybil’s personalities into one room: total chaos. Which is also a good thing if you want to win this race.

Song: ‘#Beautiful’

Artist: Mariah Carey (feat. Miguel)

Analysis: This could actually turn out to be the song to watch. Not only is it dominated by Carey’s cohort, Miguel, it has that perfect blend of freshness and subtlety that plays perfectly on radio. Plus, it’s just a really good song.

Analysis: ‘Get Lucky’ is sure to win over people who had never heard of Daft Punk before (shame on you!) but don’t expect this one to travel too far beyond the borders of Williamsburg. If anything, it feels like the song you might hear while shopping at a mall.

The stars have been keeping busy in the last 24 hours.

Hilary Duff got up bright and early for an appearance on Good Day New York. The 25-year-old actress and mother-of-one has been in the Big Apple all week to discuss her work with Johnson’s Baby Cares.

Speaking of moms, Pink was spotted in Berlin, Germany, where she went on a bike ride with her daughter Willow. The mother-daughter-duo looked extra cool thanks to Pink’s shades and Willow’s stylish helmet. The singer is scheduled to play at the O2 World Arena on Friday, followed by a show in Hannover on Saturday.

In other star sightings, Elizabeth Banks visited a beauty salon in Beverly Hills, Emma Stone and boyfriend Andrew Garfield celebrated the opening night of Bull at Britsoff Broadway and Alexander Skarsgard suited up for a screening of his new film What Maisie Knew in New York City.

Pink appears on the June cover of Glamour talking about her now two-year-old daughter Willow, her husband and her lastest album The Truth About Love. Pink appears in the magazine in and around a car in a deserted island-themed photo shoot. In the accompanying interview, she reveals her biggest fears about motherhood and how she’s changed in the thirteen years since “There You Go.”

But for anyone who spent their adolescence rushing home from school to catch TRL, the interview’s highlight is when she talks about getting her start touring with 98 Degrees and *NSYNC.

“Joey Fatonewas in love with me,” she says. “He took me to Friendly’s on a date, and he bought me an ice cream. Such a sweetheart. He asked my dad’s permission.”

Seriously. Pink and Joey Fatone went on a date. To Friendly’s. And he asked her dad’s permission. If only that Friendly’s were in a mall’s food court. This is like the teen rebel’s Justin and Britney. They can have their matching denim outfits, Fatone and Pink are busy toilet papering the neighbor’s yard.

It’s wonderful to see Pink and her husband back together and happy, but if this doesn’t launch a million what if’s in your mind, you can’t truly call yourself a child of the 90′s.

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards airs tonight from Sony Studios in Culver City, and you can expect appearances from a cast of thousands, including Brad Pitt and Zac Efron.

From Europe to South America and beyond, Hollywood’s hottest stars have been busy around the globe.

Justin Bieber was in Poland for a concert Monday evening but flew home for some much needed R&R — only to be accused of  battery following an argument with a neighbor at his California home.

“Our detectives are currently investigating allegations of a misdemeanor battery and some threats – we can confirm that Mr Bieber was home at the time,” LAPD spokesperson Steve Whitmore told Celebuzz.

“At this stage our investigations are on-going and nobody has been charged.”

Another singer who was seen resting from a grueling world tour was none other than Pink. She grabbed lunch with her family in the Big Apple and got in some quality retail therapy.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise was spotted greeting fans outside of his hotel in Buenos Aires on Monday. The actor is in Argentina for the premiere of his latest flick Oblivion.

From movie sets to talk show appearances, the last 24 hours have kept Hollywood busy.

Christian Bale was spotted rocking a comb over on the set of David O. Russell’s untitled project. The film, which also stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, marks a reunion for Bale and the filmmaker, who directed the Batman Begins star in 2010’s The Fighter.

Elsewhere on the east coast, Olivia Wilde bundled up in a black coat and matching scarf while out for a walk with friends. The night before, the 28-year-old actress and her fiancé Jason Sudeikis attended the opening night of Broadway’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke.

Drew Barrymorewas also spotted out in New York City. The 38-year-old showed off her spring colors in a black top, floral print pants and bright red shoes as she headed out for the day.

On the west coast, Zoe Saldana donned a cute polka dot sweater while out running errands in L.A. A new trailer for the star’s next film, Star Trek Into Darkness, was released this week. The highly anticipated sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film, also starring Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch, opens in theaters May 17.

Some of Hollywood’s cutest families were also out and about. Ben Affleck was spotted grabbing a cup o’ Joe with his daughter Seraphina, Sandra Bullock and her son Louis hitched a car ride in Hollywood, while Tiger Woods’ ex Elin Nordegren watched their daughter Sam play soccer in Florida.

Hollywood may have had its biggest night of the year on Sunday, but it was business as usual for some of the industry’s most talented the following day.

Andrew Garfield turned on his Spidey senses on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in New York City on Monday. The 29-year-old actor will reprise his role as the superhero for the highly anticipated sequel, out in 2014.

The film will also star his real-life girlfriend Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Sally Field and Paul Giamatti.

Elsewhere in the city, Willow Smith was spotted leaving her hotel in SoHo. Over the weekend, it was announced that the title role of the upcoming Annie remake will go to Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis.

Smith, who was originally considered for the part, eventually grew too old for it.

In Hollywood, Jessica Alba donned a fun leopard top while running errands around town. The mother of two recently surpassed her 666th post on Instagram — a bad luck milestone caught by her husband CashWarren.

“Phew #667 post. Glad @CashWarren caught that #superstitious ;),” she wrote on Sunday.

In couples sightings, Donald Faison and his pregnant wife Cacee Cobb attended a gifting event in Beverly Hills, LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian ran errands in Los Angeles and Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell took a stroll in the gorgeous sunshine.

At a Feb. 2 DirecTV Super Bowl-eve concert, the “Suit and Tie” singer segued into “Cry Me a River” with this perfunctory prelude, allegedly alluding to his past relationship with Britney Spears.

The renowned oldie is a notoriously Britney-inspired ballad, with a music video to match (a Britney-look-a-like was featured in the video), that was released after the couple’s unsavory split back in 2002.

Britney and JT were Hollywood’s pop-star power couple for three years, a classic boy-meets-girl story from the 90’s boyband era, until, as rumor has it, Brit Brit cheated on her then young love with choreographer Wade Robson.

Despite the somewhat obvious reference, Justin denied calling Britney a b**** and immediately took to Twitter to clear up the issue.

“Ok. I see you. Wouldn’t disrespect ANYONE personally. Ever. #Relax #ItsBritneyBitch I do love that saying though *with accent* #Respect,” he tweeted

Cover up those bellies, boobs and butts — this year, the Grammy Awards are going classy.

The 55th annual awards ceremony has allegedly issued a wardrobe advisory to all attendees an effort to avoid any too-revealing fashions from appearing on the Feb. 10 CBS telecast.

The policy calls for all talent set to appear on camera to ensure that “buttocks and female breasts,” as well as the “bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack,” are kept under wraps at the 2013 Grammy Award ceremony, according to a CBS-sent email circulated by multiple media reports.

Not only should “thong type costumes” — sorry, Toni Braxton — and “sheer see-through clothing” — cover up, Rihanna — be avoided, but “bare sides or under curvature of the breasts” — i.e. side-boob a la Miley Cyrus— are also off limits.

It’s not just too much bare skin that is banned. The dress code compels Grammy goers to avoid any commercial brand names, foreign language or obscenities on their garb. But oddly of all, talent are advised not to wear “lapel pins or any other form of accessory” that spells out any one organized cause.

So American flags or breast cancer awareness broaches are a no-go?

Perhaps CBS, which shelled out for steep FCC fines over Janet Jackson‘s nipple at the 2004 Super Bowl, is simply hoping to avoid any broadcasting hiccups. But for an award show beloved for its out-there outfits — be it good, bad, or please-God-never-again — such wide-ranging wardrobe restrictions could curb the publicity-pumping hoopla surrounding the ceremony.

What tongues weren’t wagging when Braxton wore that loincloth-like white dress back in 2001? And, of course, all viewers were just waiting with baited breath to see if Christina Aguilera‘s ta-tas would plummet out of her low-cut frock in 2004. But above of all, who can remember anything about the 2000 Grammy Awards except for Jennifer Lopez‘s down-to-there green Versace gown?

Over the years, the Grammy Awards have shifted focus of its annual show.

While there will always be much ado about the handing out of the golden gramophones, much of the Grammys spotlight is now placed on the performances.

Take last year’s telecast for example: the three-and-a-half-hour ceremony featured a whopping 19 performances, while the show dropped the number of award categories to just 78, compared with the more than 100 of years past

And the 55th annual Grammy Awards are gearing up to be no different. Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson and Sting were all added to the bill of performers on Monday, joining already-announced Justin Timberlake, The Black Keys, fun., The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Jack White, Elton John, Alicia Keys, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran.

But before millions tune into those artists on music’s biggest night this Sunday, Celebuzzis looking back at some of the best acts to grace the Grammys stage.

Janet Jackson (1987)
Though she didn’t take home the Album of the Year trophy for Control, Janet Jackson left her mark on the Grammy ceremony with her show-stopping performance. With the help of her Flyte Time crew and some Paula Abdul choreography, the singer stepped out of the shadow of her larger-than-life big brother, Michael Jackson, with this stirring rendition of “What Have You Done For Me Lately.”

Michael Jackson (1988)
Beginning with just a mic and his dancing shoes, the King of Pop wowed with a slowed-down version of “The Way You Make Me Feel,” before slipping into “Man in the Mirror,” with the aid of a full gospel choir accompanying him.

Whitney Houston (1994)
As one of the most successful female singers of all time, Whitney Houston needed no more than her vocal chords to bring down the house at the Grammy Awards with a booming rendition of “I Will Always Love You.” The Bodyguard soundtrack tune went on to snag Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the ceremony. After this goosebumps-giving rendition, it’s easy to see why.

Eminem and Elton John (2001)
As critics slammed his The Marshall Mathers LP lyrics as homophobic, Eminem took the Grammy stage with out-and-proud musician Elton John, a longtime supporter of the rapper, for a duet of “Stan” that left people’s jaws agape.

Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil Kim, Mya, Patti Labelle (2002)
After remaking the Labelle classic for the 2001 film Moulin Rouge!, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil Kim and Mya were joined on stage legendary singer Patti Labelle for an elaborate glitz-and-glam version of the No. 1 cover of the iconic disco song, “Lady Marmalade.”

U2 and Mary J. Blige (2006)
After U2 opened with “Vertigo,” Mary J. Blige stole to center stage, emotionally belting out her high notes on “One” alongside frontman Bono, offering for a moving performance of the remake that received a Grammy nod for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

Kanye West (2005)
Opening with a preacher delivering a sermon from a pulpit, Kanye West strode out onto a stage set up like a church, complete with rows of parishioners. As the rapper spit lines like, “My mama used to say only Jesus can save us,” the churchgoers bounced to the beat in their seats before rising to their feet for the chorus.

Beyonce and Tina Turner (2008)
After more than seven years away from the stage, Tina Turner teamed up with fellow soul diva Beyoncé for a powerful duet of her classic, “Proud Mary.” Introducing the icon to the stage, Bey praised Turner as a “legend” who embodies all “the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent” of some of music’s most famed female performers.

Chris Martin and Jay-Z (2009)
Before Jay-Z and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin‘s musical collaborations turn into a full-blown bromance, the rapper joined the pop-rocker on music’s biggest stage for a stripped down version of “Lost.” After Martin began the song solo, plunking at a colorfully-painted piano, Jay-Z emerged from the darkness to drop his rap verse. It proved a moment of magical music fusion.

Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx, (2005)
As she was riding high on “If I Ain’t Got You” and he was garnering praise for a now Oscar-winning performance in Ray, Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx joined forces on the Grammys stage to pay tribute to rhythm and blues legend Ray Charles. “For an old friend,” Foxx said, fingering the keys of the piano as he and Keys slid into the harmonies of “Georgia,” back by a full orchestra.

Pink may have a duet with fun. frontman Nate Reuss on her latest single, “Just Give Me a Reason,” but she made sure to include her husband Carey Hart when it came time to make the music video.

On Tuesday, the 33-year-old songstress unveiled her new music video, in which she and her motocross racer hubby are seen rolling around in bed together.

The couple, who wed in 2006 and welcomed their first child — daughter Willow — in 2011, are also featured in a passionate lip-lock in the music video.

Though the singer, whose real name is Alicia Moore, normally keeps her personal life out of the public eye, she couldn’t wait for fans to watch her and her husband pack on the PDA onscreen.

“Hi errrbody! My new video “Just Give Me A Reason” is out @ 5P ET! I’m sooo excited to share it with u!” she tweeted before the big debut.

Hart also appeared in Pink’s 2008 music video for “So What,” which detailed the couple’s brief separation that year.

Kevin Bacon, Visa (2002) In a parody of the game that bears his name, “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” the actor proves his identity with a spoof of “six degrees” in an effort to buy a book without ID. He says to the clerk, “Okay, I was in a movie with an extra, Eunice, whose hairdresser, Wayne, attended Sunday school with Father O’Neill, who plays racquetball with Dr. Sanjay, who recently removed the appendix of Kim, who dumped you sophomore year. So you see, we’re practically brothers.”  Well played, Kev.

Britney Spears, Pepsi (2002) Britney dances and sings her way through the many decades of Pepsi’s history starting with the ’50s. In this big-budgeted, impressively-produced ad, the pop-princess shows her range by dressing and acting the part of each decade. She continued to demonstrate her range later that year when she starred in her first movie Crossroads.

Jessica Simpson, Pizza Hut (2004) In a reference to her infamous “is this chicken…or is this fish?” question she asked during her MTV reality show, Newlyweds: Nick &  Jessica, Simpson says to her sister Ashlee, “I know, buffalos don’t have wings,” in this commercial for Pizza Hut’s buffalo chicken pizza. Thus proving that she was  in on the joke, and has a sense of humor about herself.

Pink, Britney Spears, Beyonce & Enrique Iglesias, Pepsi (2004) The power-house pop-stars sing a badass version of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” in this larger-than-life gladiator-themed Pepsi ad. Getting the three singers together at the height of their careers was already a coup, but  seeing them take down Latin heartthrob Enrique Iglesias as an evil Roman emperor was epic indeed.

Brad Pitt, Heineken (2005) Brad Pitt artfully dodges the paparazzi for a six-pack of Heineken. There isn’t much to say about this commercial that it doesn’t say for itself. It’s Brad Pitt. In a commercial. He’s hot. But it also ran during a dramatic time in Brad Pitt’s personal life — near the release of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and weeks before he broke things off with Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie.

Justin Timberlake, Pepsi (2008) It may not be totally clear what was going on in this commercial which shows JT being dragged throughout New York City, but it’s fun to watch anyway. Mostly because we get to see the Sexy star being helplessly and hilariously yanked around, and there’s the added bonus of a silly cameo by a Britney’d-out Andy Sandberg. Oh, and a week after this spot aired, Timberlake won two Grammys. Per usual, Justin rocks it.

Betty White, Snickers (2010) In undoubtedly the best installment of the “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” Snickers campaign, Betty White throws the ‘tude (while also getting knocked) around the football field. It was just one of the many hysterical Betty White moments that followed her unforgettable performance in 2009′s The Proposal.

Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne, Best Buy (2011) Sharon’s bossy, Ozzy’s clueless, and Bieber saves the day in this smart Best Buy ad. There’s nothing better than when seemingly-random celebrities are paired together, and it’s even better when they poke fun at themselves. “What the F*&%’s a Beiber?” We’re sure Ozzy wasn’t the first to ask that question.

Matthew Broderick, Honda (2012) It took them long enough to do a “remake” of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Do we care that it was in an ad for a car? Nope, just as long as we get to see Broderick (who will always be Ferris to us) running around L.A. while playing hooky from acting, singing, dancing, and frolicking on the beach, all the while making inside references to the original movie. Because sometimes you really do need to stop and look around a while, because life moves pretty fast, and you could miss it.

This year we’ll be wowed by Amy Poehler, Kaley Cuoco, Paul Rudd, and more, but you’ll have to wait until Monday to see a roundup of our favorite celeb spots from this year’s game.

Forget elegant updos or straight, shiny locks, the latest red carpet hair trend is beyond bold. Not quite a mullet, not quite a mowhawk, we’re talking about that voluminous ‘do known as the pompadour.

Originating in the 1700s from the style of a French woman named, we kid you not, Madame de Pompadour (aka, the mistress of King Louis the XV), this style requires a whole lot of volume — and fearlessness.

While women — and men (think: Elvis, John Travolta in Grease, and Biebs on occasion) — have worn this ‘do over the years, it wasn’t until this season that A-list ladies have overwhelmingly reclaimed it, putting their own spin on the uber retro hairstyle.

Celebs best known for their sense of style adventure like Pink, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna have worn the pompadour both on — and off — the red carpet. But the fact that Scarlett Johannson, Julianne Hough and Jenny McCarthy have also pumped up the volume to give this bold trend a spin is proof that the pomp has gone mainstream (at least in Hollywood).

Whether you’re planning to crop your locks or not, there are plenty of ways to seriously rock this style out.

Like the stars that have jumped on this trend to varying degrees, either shaving the sides of their heads for a full on daring look or creating a faux-pomp by pinning up their hair and teasing the top, you can go all-out pomp or the non-committal route.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan UK, the 23-year-old country cutie opened up about looking for love. And for this blonde bombshell, it comes in all shapes and sizes.

In the past, T.Swift has been linked to some of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors including Twilight star Taylor Lautner, 20, boy bander Joe Jonas, 23,  silver-screen stud Jake Gyllenhaal, 31, and 35-year-old crooner John Mayer.

Now, things seem to be heating up quickly with Swift’s newest flame, One Direction’s Harry Styles,18–a younger man!

Somewhat of a serial monogamist, the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer has been known to coo about love and heartbreak in all her songs. However, she recently admitted that all of her romances have been short-lived.

“I’ve never had a really long relationship, so I have no idea what that’s like,” she told the British publication. “Wish me luck for the future!”

Pink showed off her killer physique on Instagram over the weekend while backstage at the hit German show, Wetten Das.

The singer performed her latest  hit “Try” and donned a teeny bikini and body paint for her acrobatic dance routine.

“Thanks Wetten Dass! We had so much fun. I love my German crew – you guys represented tonight.” the pop star said alongside the photo.

Pink also posed with her dance partner, Colt, in a robe backstage before she sang for the audience.

The 33-year-old singer has reason to show off her beautiful bod: she dropped 55 pounds after giving birth to her daughter Willow in June of 2011.

In September, she confessed to People that in order to lose the weight, she worked out “for an hour and a half five days a week plus rehearsals” and tried to “stick to 1,200 to 1,400 calories a day with Freshology meal deliveries.”

Kanye West showed off his pearly whites on Thursday, when he was spotted arriving at Los Angeles International airport.

The 35-year-old rapper has a very good reason to smile. Just the night before, West received six Grammy Award nominations, including Best Short Form Music Video for his epic spectacle, “No Church in the Wild.”

Over in London, Pink rocked a black beanie and pink scarf as she headed out for a day of errands. The singer also received a Grammy nomination: Best Pop Vocal Album for The Truth About Love, which was just released in September.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart were spotted taking in the sights and sounds of Perth, Australia on Thursday. Lopez is scheduled to kick off the Australian leg of her Dance Again World Tour in Perth, followed by shows in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Back in Los Angeles, Sandra Bullock reunited with her adorable son Louis as he finished another day of school. Bullock kept things casual in a leather jacket, grey t-shirt and matching beanie while her 2-year-old sported a flannel shirt and jeans.

Sunday’s 40th anniversary American Music Awards ceremony might have been the finest AMA show of the 1980s. The 2012 edition seemed packed with nostalgic references to the Reagan Era, from Stevie Wonder showing up to perform “Master Blaster” (in tribute to AMA founder and old-school pop impresario Dick Clark, who died in April), to vintage clips of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, to hooks from Billy Joel and a-ha showing up in the current hits performed, to the parachute-style pants worn by Justin Bieber and others — a trend that went so far, it even led to an appearance by Mr. Parachute Pants himself, MC Hammer, during the show’s final musical number.

With all that nostalgia, it would have been easy to forget that the purpose of the night was to celebrate the biggest hits of 2012. Fortunately, the awards show’s hard-working performers (and its harder-working choreographers) were up to the task of creating memorable spectacles around current songs. In fact, they may have tried a little too hard; amid all the lasers, costume changes, and back-up dancers, and pyrotechnics, the music itself sometimes got lost. Still, good or bad, the show gave us numbers that will be hard to forget.

Here, then, are our picks for the most memorable moments of the 2012 American Music Awards.

Kelly Clarkson. The pop-rocker performed a career-spanning medley of her hits while wearing a numbered sign on her torso, an apparent reminder that, 10 years ago, she was just another anonymous auditioner during the inaugural season of American Idol. A decade of career highs and lows later, she made her “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” refrain sound more hard-earned and triumphant than ever.

Ke$ha. She performed her new “Die Young” with a dance routine that seemed to take the title a bit too literally. The back-up dancers all had their faces painted like skulls, and the combination of beads, tribal kettle drums, and ooga-booga moves made them look like extras from Skull Island, about to sacrifice the blonde singer to King Kong.

Taylor Swift. Having survived presenter Eric Stonestreet’s attempt to upstage her (where’s Kanye West when you need him?), the country-pop princess lived up to her image with a Cinderella-style performance of “I Knew You Were Trouble” In an evening where most of the costumes were strictly black and white (with a hint of red), the lush and colorful number was a standout. Nicki Minaj. “Freedom” was the watchword for the rapper, who delivered a couple of deliciously loopy acceptance speeches, did a little bumping and grinding during her cameo in Bieber’s performance of “Beauty and the Beat” (see a video of the performance here) and performed solo and with a choir on her own song “Freedom.” In a set that looked like a winter wonderland, Minaj resembled Mrs. Frosty the Snowman (only with pink cotton-candy hair) and created a moment fit for a Christmas card.

Pink. In the evening’s most acrobatic and dramatic performance, Pink offered up her motivational anthem “Try” in a weirdly bleak setting that looked like a slum tenement apartment on fire. Inside the spartan, burning room, Pink and a male dancer, both spattered with grime and colorful paint, tossed each other around the room like an abusive, co-dependent couple. The whole thing looked more frightening than inspirational, but it certainly was riveting. (See a video of the performance here.)

Justin Bieber. The Canadian superstar was the American Music Awards’ man of the night. Not only did he deliver a passionate medley of “As Long As You Love Me” and “Beauty and the Beat,” but he also took home an armload of awards, including the climactic prize, Artist of the Year. Upon hearing his name mentioned for that last award, the compact star dragged his even tinier mom on stage to thank her for her support. It was one of the evening’s most poignant moments.

Psy. Or maybe the man of the night was Scooter Braun, the manager who represents three of the evening’s biggest stars: Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Psy. The K-pop rapper closed the evening with a dynamic performance of his viral hit “Gangnam Style” that had the celebrities and dignitaries in the audience on their feet doing the video’s equestrian-inspired dance. (See a video of the performance here.) The shout-out to Hammer was a nice touch. It played as both genuine homage and winking in-joke. After all, “Gangnam Style” (like the artist behind it) could just turn out to be a novelty, the “U Can’t Touch This” of 2012. Still, as Psy and Hammer both seem to know, there are worse ways of being remembered — such as, not being remembered at all.
