NBC may not know what you want, but Ellen DeGeneres does. Unfortunately, just because they played friends on television doesn’t mean the cast of Friends is friends in real life, as Jennifer Aniston finds out in this clip.

On the show, Aniston also talks about the possibilty of an actual Friends reunion, and whether or not she’d take part. Spoiler alert: she dodges answering definitively.

Operation Hot Mother is a go. With less than two weeks before Arrested Development‘s long-awaited fourth season, a trailer has been released. It features everything an AD fan could want: Michael, GOB, Lindsey, George Michael, Lucille, Tobias, George, Maeby and Buster. Plus an ostrich, a vulture, magic tricks illusions and Buster’s good old hook.

This season picks up in real time after we last saw the Bluths. Some things have changed: Michael looks to have finally moved to Phoenix and George Michael and Maeby are in college. Some things, however, stay the same: Tobias and Lindsey are still having marital problems and, of course, Buster still lives at home with mom.

If you’re anything like us, you’re about to blue yourself with anticipation, but hopefully this 1:36 teaser can hold you until the 26th.

After toying with the idea of including a same-sex couple on the next season of Dancing With the Stars, ABC has abandoned the notion, PopEater‘s Rob Shuter reports.

A source within the network tells Shuter that the plan fell through after Ellen DeGeneres‘ wife Portia de Rossi turned down an offer to appear on the show and ABC was unable to come up with a non-controversial replacement:

“If Portia had agreed then this would have been a done deal. She was the only star that could have pulled this off without completely offending the program’s conservative viewers.”

Now, the source adds, producers have decided to hold off on the idea for a few years, hoping that cultural attitudes change, and don’t plan to “rush into creating a same-sex dancing couple just to get attention and publicity.”

So, if DWTS won’t be spicing things up with same sex competitors, what can viewers expect next season? A big snooze, according to one Hollywood casting director. who suggests that, after Bristol Palin‘s controversial turn on the show, producers have become even more gun-shy than usual:

“After Bristol, I predict it will be the most boring bunch of stars ever cast next season. When you have a hit as big as this on your hands, everyone is scared to mess it up.”

Portia de Rossi has officially taken wife Ellen DeGeneres‘ last name.

The Arrested Development star changed her last name in a private hearing on Thursday. Portia married Ellen in a star-studded ceremony in 2008. The pair married during the five months when same-sex marriage was legal in California.

The 37-year-old blonde beauty announced that she would be changing her last name in August.

Ellen joked about Portia’s name change on her Twitter account. “I just got some amazing news,” tweeted Ellen, “The court has granted Portia’s name change, she’s now officially Portia Winfrey.”

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi enjoyed an evening together at the Chateau Marmont hotel last night to celebrate the talk show hostess’ 51st birthday!

Eleven-time Emmy winner and makeup spokesface Ellen found out that she shares the same birthday as her 87-year-old fan Junebug Borden of Land O’Lakes, WI. So she took some time on her show to give Mrs. Borden a call to acknowledge both their birthdays.

Mrs. Borden’s daughter wrote in to say that she enjoys “a splash” of Jack Daniels while watching the show, which caused Ellen to remark that drinking while watching does make it funnier.

Junebug noted that the wind chill in Land O’ Lakes is 20 degrees below zero to which Ellen replied, “That must be why you drink.”

“You’re so cute, that’s what I love about you!,” Mrs. Borden exclaimed.

Ellen’s wife Portia, 35, obviously thinks so to.

Portia, 35, and Ellen have been going strong as couple since 2004 and are obviously not letting a little thing like Proposition 8—the ballot which was voted into law that caused gay marriages in California to be invalid—stand in the way of their marriage vows, which they exchanged in August of last year.

Portia de Rossi says her development has been anything but arrested since marrying comedienne/talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres in August.

The 35-year-old Australian actress (born Amanda Lee Rogers) tells People magazine that the couple’s marriage has “completely changed my life.” 

Though the couple has been together since 2004, de Rossi says that it’s an entirely different ball game once the vows are exchanged—and she means it in a good way. 

“Marriage is a different way of being together,” de Rossi notes. “There’s a peace to [being married] and a sense of togetherness that we just didn’t have before. And I didn’t even realize it would change as much as it has, but it’s so lovely.”

De Rossi admits that the transformation that occurs with an officially committed relationship was an eye-opener for her. “It’s legal, and it’s real, so there’s that kind of formality to it that makes it very valid,” the thesp, who portrays Veronica in the upcoming ABC comedy Better Off Ted, says. “I think the emotions that went with that as a gay woman kind of surprised me – that I would be that relieved to have my mother be present at the ceremony to bless the union, and to call [Ellen] her daughter-in-law.”

The only uncomfortable aspect of their union, de Rossi notes, is that she’ll inevitably have to go on her 50-year-old wife’s show to promote her new series. 

“She’ll make it flawless, and I’m excited to talk about the show,” de Rossi says. “I just hope she doesn’t ask any personal questions. That’s off limits!”

Might as well start bracing yourself for the awkwardness now, Portia, because making her guests uncomfortable with personal questions seems to be your girl’s trademark.

Ask unassuming Mariah Carey, who stopped by Mrs. Portia de Rossi‘s couch Tuesday for a chat.  Despite her casual vibe, DeGeneres tried her luck at confirming rumors that 38-year-old Carey is pregnant with husband Nick Cannon‘s child.

Ellen put the baby question on the table, but said: “You don’t have to answer that.”  Then she produced a bottle of alcohol: “Let’s just toast with champagne.”

You devil, DeGeneres. Naturally, a mother-to-be won’t imbibe intoxicating spirits in this day and age.

Mariah, who held secret Bahamian nuptials with 28-year-old Cannon in April, laughed off the bubbles, saying 3 o’clock in the afternoon was a bit early for a diva to tie one on.

“I can’t believe you did this to me, Ellen,” Carey sputtered, “this is peer pressure!”

When a baby does indeed come along, who knows what lengths Ellen will go to for a first look? Perhaps an empty, 1600 thread-count bassinet to lure in the famous offspring?

MSNBC reports that Ellen DeGeneres has released a statement to the Associated Press saying that she is “saddened beyond belief” by the passing of Proposition 8, the constitutional amendment in California banning gay marriage. DeGeneres says that she “like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step toward equality” by electing Barack Obama as president. And with the passing of the amendment, “we took a giant step away.” DeGeneres, who is openly gay, wed actress Portia DeRossi in August following a Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in California.

Newsweek reports that vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin once greeted male staffers in nothing but a towel. During a GOP convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, John McCain staffers went to Palin’s hotel room to brief her. Palin reportedly came out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel wrapped around her body,and one around her hair and asked the staffers to talk to her husband Todd while she got ready. “I’ll be just a minute,” she said.

TMZ has footage of Nick Hogan claiming he isn’t allowed to visit the friend he put into a coma with his reckless driving. Hogan, who served 166 days in a Florida jail for felony reckless driving, says that he hasn’t been allowed to visit John Graziano because Graziano’s family has banned him. Graziano has been in a permanent vegetative state since the August 2007 car accident.

More Sarah Palin news. Newsweek reports that losing vice-presidential candidate Palin spent far more on clothing for herself and her family during the presidential campaign than was initially reported. The Alaskan governor reportedly spent “tens of thousands more” than the initially reported amount of $150,000. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost, and $20,000 to $40,000 was spent on clothes for her husband Todd. A source referred to the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast.” All the clothing Palin wore will reportedly be donated to charity.

Us reports that “Joe the Plumber” (aka Samuel Wurzelbacher), the Ohio plumber that became an overnight media political touchstone after he was referred to at least 23 times by Barack Obama and John McCain in their final presidential debate, says that he can accept Barack Obama as his president. Wurzelbacher campaigned for John McCain. “Hey, the American people spoke. They elected Barack Obama as our president and our new Commander in Chief, and I’m behind that 100 percent,” he said yesterday.

Newlywed Ellen DeGeneres is basking in the glow of her honeymoon phase. Since marrying Portia De Rossi in August, the talk show hostess has gotten in touch with her gentler side. 

“My heart just feels a little bit different, softer and somehow more in love,” People reports the comedienne saying in an interview promoting messages she recently recorded as part of a national breast cancer awareness drive.

She’s apparently so intoxicated with being Portia’s legal squeeze that not even breast cancer bums her out. Wow!

As the new face of Cover Girl, she really is easier and breezier than ever before.

But hopefully love won’t soften the funny lady too much. The world needs an Ellen that isn’t shy about mocking John Stamos.

Now that her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres is nice and legal and the two are even talking about having kids together, Portia de Rossi is taking Ellen’s surname, Star magazine reports.

An insider tells the magazine that the former Arrested Development actress plans to legally change her name to Portia DeGeneres.

The source adds that the two also bought stationery at Tiffany & Co. in Beverly Hills engraved with “Mrs. and Mrs. DeGeneres” to “write thank-you notes to the 19 friends and family who attended.”

If she wanted to really be progressive, Portia could have changed her last name to di Rossi-DeGeneres. But that’s quite a mouthful, and not the fun, juicy kind that one would normally associate with female couples.

Ellen then adds, “It’s something we would never take lightly and just say, ‘That would be fun.’ It’s a lot of work and we recognize that. In a way, we want to be selfish because we love our life, but we know how much that adds to it.”

Ellen DeGeneres got married at the Los Angeles home she shares with her now-wife, actress Portia DeRossi, over the weekend.

On the website for her talk show, DeGeneres joked about the nuptials in curly script and expressed her regrets to a certain Full House star.

“I had a big weekend,” Ellen wrote. “I got married to Portia de Rossi! Sorry, John Stamos … this one’s taken.”

She went on to explain the font she wrote in.

“You may notice something different about the way I’m writing … it’s fancy. This is the font I type in now that I’m MARRIED!”

DeGeneres also said she plans to have more pictures and video for fans once the new season of her talk show begins on September 8.

“I can’t wait to see them too … it was all a blur,” she admits.

If wifey Portia had dropped her top again, Ellen’s vision would have cleared.

Happy couple Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, together since 2005, embraced their love, and the new same-sex marriage law, and were wed Saturday evening at their Beverly Hills estate.

With friends and family in an intimate ceremony of 30, the sacred union was finally made legal at 6:30 p.m. in a balmy August breeze. Ellen has joke that Justin Timberlake had been enlisted to belt out a few tunes, but no celebrity guests were spotted entering the luscious DeGenere-de Rossi compound.

However, sparkle power was still in full attendance, embodied by the dazzling smiles of the blushing brides, and de Rossi’s Neil Lane-designed, marquise-cut pink diamond.

Ellen, 50, and Portia, 35, have been together since 2004, hookin’ up shortly before de Rossi officially came out of the closet. The Australian actress used to swing the other way, as she was married for two years to documentary filmmaker Met Metcalfe.

Ellen came out way back in ’97. Her long-term relationship with koo-koo actress Anne Heche was the talk of the town—until Anne decided she was soooo over girls! 

Now El and P have finally found true love! The world wishes them happiness for, *cross your fingers*, the rest of their lives! How fun would Ellen be as a wife? The laughs would never stop! Plus, Portia was downright hilarious in Arrested Development. 

Ellen plans to air part of the ceremony on her daytime talk show. Be sure to tune in!
