Apparently, nine-year-old Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis fell into a dance-off with a fellow youngster Sunday night an after-party for the MTV Movie Awards. That’s pretty much all that needs to be said about this video.

But just in case you need further enticing: It also contains cartwheels, spinning around and moves that this 27-year-older will never be able to pull off.

Suffice to say, Quvenzhané won — even without her cat purse.

Kevin Hart did what he does best on Saturday Night Live: comedy, comedy, comedy.

So it only made sense that the 32-year-old funnyman went right into stand-up for his opening monologue, recalling a run-in with a homeless guy who was after his sandwich at Panera Bread.

Then came the impressions.

“Back in the day, I actually auditioned for SNL. True story people. I didn’t get it, no, they passed on me, which I’m fine about now . . . I just feel like I gave a great audition,” he said, before delivering his versions of basketball great Avery Johnson, Robert De Niro and Denzel Washington.

“The reason why I chose [Denzel], I’m black, he’s black, it was the perfect combination,” said Hart.

The evening was packed with spot-on sketches, live and pre-taped (“Is it a Z shirt?”), but the highlight of the show came by way of Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis.

Or, Hart’s version of the 9-year-old movie star.

Wolf Blitzer (played by Jason Sudeikis) chats with a correspondent for The Situation Room (Cecily Strong) about the selection for a new pope before the two are interrupted by a smoke signal, indicating that the Cardinals have made a decision — in Wallis.

“Quvenzhane Wallis is of course the first African American, first female and first child pope,” Strong announces, as Hart appears on screen in the actress’s Oscar dress (puppy purse included).

Hart’s composure is briefly interrupted on “Weekend Update with Seth Meyers,” in the pair’s edition of “Really With Seth and Kevin.”

Hart also channels his inner zombie in a tribute to The Walking Dead. After his character gets bitten, the conversation gets a bit sensitive for the new zombie.

“We’re not racist,” Taran Killam says. “It just seemed like you were turning into a zombie.”

Justin Timberlake will host and serve as musical guest on Mar. 9.

Take a breath, inquiring fashion minds: Quvenzhane Wallis‘ infamous “puppy purse” has a name.

The Oscar nominee, who has been toting around a different furry accessory at every red carpet this award season, told Celebuzz that the purse she brought to the 2013 Academy Awards holds a special place in her heart, as it was named after her very own real life pet.

“It’s renamed after my dog named Sammy,” the Beasts of the Southern Wild star told us. “He’s at home right now.”

Wallis, who, at the age of 9, holds the Academy Awards record for the youngest person nominated for Best Actress, added that her unique accessory is “special-made.”

Hushpuppy is heading to the Warbucks mansion!

Beasts of the Southern Wild star and Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis has just been hired for the title role of Annie, Sony Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment announced on Sunday.

The contemporary remake will be produced and directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits), along with Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith and Jay-Z.

“With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star,” Hannah Minghella, President of Production at Sony Pictures said in a statement [via Deadline].

“She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”

The 9-year-old actress could make Oscar history on Sunday; she’s up for Best Actress against Emmanuelle Riva, Naomi Watts, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence.

Annie, a longtime Broadway favorite, was adapted into a musical film in 1982, starring Aileen Quinn, Bernadette Peters and Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks. There have been multiple versions since, including TV films in 1995 and 1999.

Smith’s daughter Willow was previously considered for the lead role, but eventually grew out of it (she’s 12 now).

As longtime Jay-Z fans know, the rapper’s 1998 album, Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life, features the megahit Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem), which samples the beloved Broadway track.

Wallis’s next feature is 12 Years a Slave, co-starring Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch. The Steve McQueen picture has yet to announce a release date.

The new Annie, based on a screenplay written by Emma Thompson, will be arrive in theaters during the winter holiday season in 2014.

She’s the toast of Hollywood at just 9-years-old.

Last week, Quvenzhané Wallis made history as the youngest nominee for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, displacing Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes, who was 13 years old when she was nominated in 2003.

And when you’re in Wallis’ position, the world is hanging on your every word – even the world of Disney.

“I want to meet everybody on Disney Channel and Disney XD that are alive,” she told the L.A. Times last week. So, Disney Channel’s A.N.T Farm cast stepped in to get her started on her wish.

Wallis stopped by the Los Angeles set on Friday and got to hang with stars China Anne MCclain, Aedin Mincks, Sierra Mccormick, Stefanie Scott and Jake Short.

Quvenzhané Wallis just joined a very exclusive club.

On Thursday, the 9-year-old actress made history after receiving an Academy Award nomination for best actress, making her the youngest nominee ever in the category.

Wallis, who was a mere five years old when she auditioned for the role of Hushpuppy in Benh Zeitlin’s Beasts of the Southern Wild, has received plenty of critical acclaim since the film’s debut at the Sundance Film Festival nearly one year ago.

“Thank you to all you Oscar folks, from me, my mom and my dad. I am so happy for Benh and Lucy and the gang in Louisiana. Meeting all these great new people is one of the best parts for me,” the young star said in a statement Thursday following her nomination [via The Wrap].

“I want to thank my family, friends, fans and everyone so much. Beast it!”

The last time a young actress made history in the best actress category was in 2004, when Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes was nominated at age 13.

While several young actresses, including Jennifer Lawrence and Keira Knightley, have made history with their nominations, it’s still been nearly three decades since anyone has beat Marlee Matlin’s historical win.

In 1986, Matlin, then 21, took home Oscar for her role in Children of a Lesser God. The actress also made history by becoming the first deaf actor or actress to win an Academy Award.

Staying in the ‘80s, Justin Henry’s best supporting actor nomination in 1980 for his role in Kramer vs. Kramer still tops everyone else as the youngest nominee in any category to date.

Quvenzhané Wallis has made history.

At age 9, the Beasts of the Southern Wild lead is the youngest to be nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. The acclaimed indie — also vying for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay — chronicles life in the flood-devastated landscape of the Louisiana bayou through the eyes of Hushpuppy (played by Wallis), a fiercely independent and imaginative 6-year-old on the brink orphanage who sets out on a journey to the outside world.

Now after being overlooked by the Screen Actors Guild, Wallis has garnered high praise from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for her performance, giving her a chance to dethrone Tatum O’Neal as the youngest winner in Oscar history. And Wallis couldn’t be more thrilled to be the toast of the town.

1. Say my name.
The actress’ name may be a mouthful, but it’s pronounced Kwe-VAHN-zhah-nay. The first portion of her name is a blend of her parent’s first names, while zhané means fairy in Swahili. But don’t worry, just call her by her nicknames, Nazie — pronounced NAY-zee — or Little Q.

2. Acting novice.
Beasts of the Southern Wild was her first film venture. And Wallis is still wrapping her head around watching herself on the silver screen.”It’s kind of weird, because you see a bigger you,” she told AwardsLine. “And then you look at yourself, and you think, ‘Why am I so much smaller than the real one up there?’ And then you look at yourself and go, ‘Wait, I’m the real one!’”

3. Southern charm.
Wallis was born in Houma, Louisiana, the daughter of Qulyndreia, a teacher, and Venjie Wallis, Sr., a truck driver.

4. Age is just a number.
Before wowing moviegoers on the big screen, Wallis, at age 5, lied about her age in order to audition for Beasts, as the starring role required a minimum age of 6. “The audition turned out to be for six to nine year olds, so my mom said I couldn’t go cause I was only five,” Wallis explained in an interview with Roger Ebert. “So we just went and we act like…we ain’t do nothing wrong. And we just sneaked in, cause I was like one year younger.”

5. A perfect fit.
Why did Wallis land the starring role in the film? “That character who is Hushpuppy is…active. She does what is right and she is fearless,” the young actress said. “And that’s what I did at the audition.”

2012 was an amazing year for movies, anchored by some of the best female performances in recent years.

Where in the past actresses have found enormous success perhaps primarily in supporting roles, this year they took center stage, not simply keeping pace with their male co-stars but outshining them and showing Hollywood that women can command the screen every bit as effectively as men.

Celebuzz assembled a shortlist of some of our favorite female performances, all of which were hugely significant in the films from which they came. From Jennifer Lawrence to Jessica Chastain to Anne Hathaway, check out our list!

Lawrence proved to be the year’s MVP, with not one but two fantastic performances, in The Hunger Games and then again in Silver Linings Playbook.

But she was hardly the only woman to prove her mettle on the silver screen. Chastain and Hathaway continue to dominate high-rpofile roles and prove they deserve them, even as newcomers like Quvenzhane Wallis and Brit Marling establish themselves as forces to be reckoned with.

Film Independent released a list of the organization’s 2012 Independent Spirit Award nominees Tuesday, celebrating the best and brightest talents working in independent film.

But for industry watchdogs, the announcement offered a shortlist of performers and filmmakers who either promise to go on to great things, or return to former glories after remarkable creative resuscitations.

For a full list of the nominees, visit the Spirit Awards website. In the meantime, Celebuzz has taken a long look at a few of the names on that list that seem likely to make even bigger waves in the year to come, after introducing (or reintroducing) themselves in 2012.

Among the year’s big newcomers, Brit Marling delivered a knockout performance as a cult leader in the amazing Sound of My Voice, which she also wrote. The fact that she’s easy on the eyes (to say the least) is third among her most attractive attributes virtually ensures that she’s going to enjoy some great opportunities in the months ahead.

Conversely, Matthew McConaughey and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have been entertaining audiences for years, but delivered some of the best work of their careers in 2012 with Magic Mike and Smashed, respectively. Hopefully they will continue to find bigger, better and more challenging projects to keep them – and us – enthralled next year.

And while there are certainly others in Celebuzz’ gallery, Jennifer Lawrence may be its MVP, thanks to not only her critical but commercial moxie – after blowing out the box office with The Hunger Games, she returned in November with a standout (indeed – award-worthy) performance in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook.
