On Saturday, stars paid respect to the late Whitney Houston inside New Hope Baptist Church as they said their final farewells. Houston’s musical comrades sch as R. Kelly and Stevie Wonder were in attendance and sent off the legendary singer though musical performances. Wonder played the piano and sang “Love’s In Need of Love Today” and “Ribbon in the Sky” while Kelly covered Houston’s 2009 single “I Look To You.”

Songstress Alicia Keys was also in the audience and said goodbye to the departed songstress with a heart-wrenching performance of “Send Me An Angel.” The singer broke down in tears before her song and was given a handkerchief from someone in the crowd.

The 8-year-old won hearts over when she debuted her rendition of Nicki Minaj‘s “Super Bass” last month. Katy Perry goes…punk? Georgia-based rockers Woe Is Me took on Katy’s party anthem for the album Pop Goes Punk, Volume 4. The song starts off with a pop-friendly intro, but takes a noticeable angsty turn throughout the rest of the chorus.

Indie/alternative singer Tori Amos tried her hand at Madonna’s classic ballad, “Live To Tell” during her Night of Hunters tour. Tori’s piano version remained true to the song’s signature melancholy instrumentals.

This just might have cemented Joseph Gordon Levitt‘s status as one of our favorite people ever.

In what is the most recent of the plentiful celebs covering celebs as of late, JGL took the stage where he belted out this rather unlikely cover of R. Kelly‘s hit song “Ignition”. (Don’t lie, you know you’ve uttered “It’s the freaking weekend baby I’m about to have me some fun” on more than one occasion.)

Whether you like this version or not, you’ve got to give him props! It’s pretty catchy.

What do you do when you’re trying to rehabilitate your public image after becoming universally reviled for beating the hell out of your ex-girlfriend?

Here’s a handy tip from your old pal Chris Brown—compare yourself to a guy who went on trial for allegedly peeing on an underage girl.

The “I Can Transform Ya” singer appeared on Sirius radio channel Shade 45 on Saturday to promote his new album Graffiti, and to discuss his efforts to crawl back into the public’s good graces after, well, you know…

The way Brown sees it, if he hadn’t produced such a quality collection of new music after being convicted of felony assault, he’d have an even harder time convincing the world that he’s not a complete jerk. Just like a certain other infamous R&B performer.

Brown told host DJ Whoo Kid,

“If I came back with a wack record, it might have been a wrap. It’s like when R. Kelly went through his situation; he put out his album and he had his record and people really listened to his music and it was like, ‘Wow.’”

Like, wow, indeed. You couldn’t have come up with a better comparison for yourself, Chris? Like, say, just about anybody else in the world?

R. Kelly is finally ready to speak up about the legal troubles that plagued him for the past few years.

The R&B singer—who was found not guilty earlier this year of videotaping himself having sex with a 13-year-old girl—sat down for an interview with BET correspondent Toure to discuss the accusations and resulting high-profile trial.

“To be honest, I felt like I was in jail the last seven years,” revealed Kelly, who admitted that he was nervous “as hell” about the verdict.

“Verdict day…I couldn’t describe it and I wouldn’t wish it on—if I had a worst enemy, which I don’t,” said Kelly.

Maybe not a worst enemy, but he certainly has plenty of them. The singer attributes his legal woes to vultures who “find a way to get a piece of you one way or the other.

“I’ve been blackmailed a billion times in my career—before the trial, during the trial, after the trial,” Kelly reveals. “I’ve been sued for stuff that—ridiculous things, you know. At one point in my life, I was an ATM machine.”

The 41-year-old rapper was first charged back in 2002.

The besieged singer’s innocence has been established after six years of convoluted court debate.

Sly and opportunistic lawyers argued that the Grammy winner—who reportedly married deceased R&B singer Aaliyah when she was 15-years-old—was the object of an extortion plot.

The argument, with a sidebar of mistaken identity, was sufficient to convince jurors to set the Ignition singer free.

Both the so-called victim, who was alleged to be 13 years old at the time the explicit golden-shower video was made, and Kelly have long denied that they were the individuals seen on the tape.

Now the singer can resume his pre-trial life of making videos in which he simply spews champagne on grown women suggestively. Real Talk.

It’s going to be a busy day for R. Kelly.

As his child-pornography trial continued yesterday, the singer’s former producer and personal assistant Lindsey Perryman testified that she’s “110 percent sure” that Kelly is the man on a sex tape featuring a girl as young as 13 being urinated and ejaculated upon, according to E! Online.

Perryman’s testimony contradicts that of Kelly lawyer Sam Adam Jr., who earlier maintained that the singer bears a mole that’s not evident on the male in the tape.

During her time on the stand, Perryman also stated that she recognized the alleged victim from the recording studio, and recalled driving her from school to the studio.

“She has distinct cheekbones, the way she moves her mouth and talks and smiles,” Perryman, who says that Kelly introduced the girl as his goddaughter, noted. “It’s very distinctive to her.” 

Perryman’s assertions were backed up by Tadja Burnett, a family friend of the alleged victim. Burnett testified that she recognized the girl on the tape by her cheeks, nose and overall facial structure.

The defense countered with testimony that the alleged victim wore braces between 1997 and 1999, a period that overlaps with the believed production of the tape. Burnett was forced to admit that the girl on the tape didn’t appear to be wearing braces.

So, if there’s no brace-face, there is no case? Time will tell—with three weeks of testimony left and the defense yet to present its side, the only thing for sure is that the outpouring of information will be formidable.

Six years after first being accused of indulging in sexual behavior with an underage girl, R&B singer Robert Sylvester “R.” Kelly is finally seeing his day in court.

Kelly’s child-pornography trial, which began yesterday in Chicago, centers around a 27-minute video tape that allegedly shows Kelly engaging in lewd acts with the girl ten years ago. Yesterday jurors were shown the tape, which assistant state’s attorney Shauna Boliker promised “will unfold before you, frame by disgusting frame.”

The singer’s attorney, Sam Adam Jr., maintains that his client is the victim of mistaken identity. Yesterday jurors were also shown police photos of Kelly that display a dark mole in the lower center of his back. Adam maintains that the man on the tape, whose back is visible, has no such mole.

“Robert Kelly is not on that tape,” Adam told the court.

So if he has a mole, he stays out of the hole?

The defense is further arguing that the female on the tape is not who prosecutors claim she is, pointing out that the alleged victim will not testify that she was on the tape.

Kelly faces 15 years if convicted of the child-pornography charges. Stay tuned for further details, but be patient. This thing promises to drag on longer than Kelly’s interminable hip-hopera, “Trapped in the Closet.”
