The wonderful world of Twitter was buzzing extra loud this week, thanks to the famous guests at the 2013 Met Gala in New York City.

Kim Kardashian recapped her red carpet outfit with three words on Twitter: “Gloves. Train. Flowers.”

Jessical Biel channeled her inner punk well before the big event, telling her followers that she was sipping on scotch out of a teacup. “Really getting into the #MetBall theme over here,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Ian Somerhalder posted a questionable quote on the same day news broke of his split from his girlfriend of three years Nina Dobrev.

“People change and forget to tell each other,” he wrote, borrowing words from playwright Lillian Hellman.

Speaking of couples, Chris Brown also posted a cryptic tweet, further brewing the rumors of his relationship status with Rihanna.

“She’s not mine if she’s everybody else’s,” Brown wrote.

Thursday night’s episode of FOX’s American Idol was full of tension and turmoil as the last three ladies wonder who would be sent packing. 

Earlier in the day, the show had shared departure news when Randy Jackson announced he wouldn’t return next season. The only original judge remaining will hang up his Idol hat after 12 seasons of service.

“I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures,” he said in a statement.

The news came as a surprise to host, Ryan Seacrest, who alluded to the Dawg’s departure without addressing it directly. With rumors swirling that the whole panel will be dismissed, the fate of the floundering show remained as uncertain as tonight’s top three contenders’ destiny.

After last night’s three-round battle for a finale spot, Kree Harrison, Angie Miller and Candice Glover anxiously awaited the results. Each woman won a round according to Jimmy Iovine and all three boast big reasons to stay in the game. 

Candice has been consistent throughout the competition, delivering dynamic diva-worthy performances all season. Iovine seems certain she’s staying put. “If she goes home, I’m going with her,” he said.

Kree has been a front-runner from the start with spot-on pitch and her sweet, soulful sound.

Meanwhile, Angie has proven she can carry any style song and serves up twice the passion at the piano. She’s also the only one who hasn’t been in the bottom.

After Alicia Keys performed “Tears Always Win,” at the piano, Mariah Carey debuted her new video for “Beautiful” featuring Miguel. Truth be told, I hate this song.

But once Idol alum Lauren Alaina was done belting out “Barefoot And Buckwild,” it’s time for the real results.

Candice was first to hear she’s safe. There was no way this girl wasn’t going to the finale. This is her year. 

Who will join her in the final round? Kree Harrison — and Angie was sent packing!

After tearing up at her highlights reel, she sobbed through the end of her exit song, Colton Dixon’s “ Never Gone.”

It’s too bad she waited until her final song to let loose with her emotions. She has had an impermeable cloak of perfection surrounding her all season and now she decided to drop the wall.

Understandably surprised after last night’s amazing set of stellar songs, Angie is shocked that her time is up. Although I think the country made the right choice, it’s sad to see her go. She’s done an amazing job this season and she really wanted to win.

FOX’s American Idol continues is cycle of predictability Thursday night as it finds its final five finalists, while welcoming back past winners Kelly Clarkson and Scotty McCreery.

Despite the fanfare, the opening medley is tough to watch. The songs are boring and Lazaro Arbos is so clearly outgunned, making it that much more painful to watch him try to compete. His weak vocals especially comes through when his solo section is followed by a Candice Glover and Amber Holcomb duet, two crooners who have been more than amazing throughout the competition.

By the time the group wraps it up with “That’s What Friends Are For,” it looks like the girls are already singing him their sweet goodbyes. Will this be Lazaro’s final night?

Jimmy Iovine weighs in on last night’s performances. He thinks Kree Harrison is doing great but needs to show more personality to capture the crowd. He also thinks Angie Miller was good but not good enough to take top honors. Finally, he says Lazaros should go home after comparing his efforts to an “Ambien milkshake.”

Now that the group is down to six, they will be paired off in order of results. Sneaky Ryan Seacrest won’t reveal which group represents which results until the end. Last week’s Top 3 are immediately split up. Kree is in one group, Lazaro in another and Angie in the third.

Season 10 winner, Scotty McCreery, sings his latest single, “See You Tonight” from the crowd full of country fans.

Candice joins Kree in the winner’s circle and I’m glad to see the country got it right. Angie gets paired up with Janelle Arthur, and it’s clear they are in the safe zone. If things were perfect, she would be in the bottom with Lazaro — but I know that spot is reserved for Amber, who can’t seem to connect with audiences no matter how well she does.

Idol’s first winner, Kelly Clarkson, is back to perform her latest single, “People Like Us.”  The song is one of the few new singles on her Greatest Hits album and it sounds like a hit to me. Even though this competition has turned out some major superstars, no one will ever compare to Kelly. Could we have asked for a better original Idol than her?

But back to this season’s leading ladies and one lone gentleman. As predicted, Lazaro is in the Bottom 2 with Amber — and he knows knows he’s going home as it;s written all over his face. When Ryan breaks the bad news, he offers a sincere smile before singing his last song, “Feelin’ Good.”

It is obvious the judges aren’t even thinking about using their save on the stuttering sweetheart. “Lazaro, we love you,” says Randy Jackson. “You’ve been a treasure to the show but we’re not going to use the save.”

Who do you think should be in the Top 3?

Wednesday’s episode of American Idol put the pressure on its remaining contestants. For the first time this season, the FOX show has challenged the singers to two songs each. The night starts off slow and concludes with one of the best performances the Idol stage has ever seen.

Host Ryan Seacrest starts by rehashing Burnell Taylor’s tearful departure last week. He explains the contenders will choose one song they wish they had written and one song from the Burt Bacharach/Hal David catalogue.

Angie Miller opens the show with “Anyone Who Had A Heart” — and it’s pretty boring. She just stares into the camera and makes dramatic faces, but doesn’t truly emote. Keith Urban says her performance left him “looking for her humanity.” I don’t think he intended the comment to be as amusing as it was. Nicki Minaj also agrees the performance lacked passion.

Next up is Amber Holcomb, who belts out a great rendition of “I Say A Little Prayer.” I think it’s alright, but certainly not her best. The judges love it and Randy Jackson says, “Amber has arrived!” Nicki says she’s her favorite girl (though I’m sure she will say that four more times tonight) and Mariah Carey gives it an “A plus.”

Lazaros Arbos’ try at “Close To You” is tragic. Randy doesn’t mince words, saying, “No, no, no, no … that was horrible … I think that’s the worst performance you’ve ever had on the show.” The other judges agree, and Nicki is practically speechless. “Let’s just pretend I already gave my comment.” Ouch. He should start packing tonight.

Kree Harrisongives a great go at “What The World Needs Now” and makes it look so easy. Her effortless delivery is mesmerizing and her voice is sweet and strong at the same time. Keith is so floored, gushing, “It’s the humanity and the compassion that comes through … That’s the best you’ve ever sung.”

Janelle Arthur gives a lackluster performance too. So far, this night is a little disappointing. She chooses “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again” and I’m wondering if she’ll ever sing on Idol again after tonight. The judges don’t love it either. “I felt that was really boring,” says Nicki.

Just when I’m about to give up on the night, Candice Glover comes to save the day. She gives another amazing performance and I’m starting to wonder if this girl will ever have a bad day. She picks “Don’t Make Me Over” and it’s near perfect. Randy says it was one of her “best performances ever.” Agreed. She rocks.

At this point, I’m wishing the episode was only an hour. However, we still have another round to race through.

Angie’s second try is much better. She picks “Love Came Down” by Kari Jobe. She’s back at the piano and that’s truly her sweet spot. The judges are relieved she got her groove back.

After some probing from Ryan, Amber kills Beyonce’s “Love On Top” and finally shows off some moves. This girl is on fire this evening and the judges continue their rave reviews. “ You have arrived in every sense of the word,” says Nicki.

Laz takes a stab at another slow song. This time it’s Robbie Williams’ “Angels.” His attempt is stronger than that last but it’s still not nearly good enough to stay in the competition. He’s toast.

Kree kills a song I’ve never heard of, Janelle is boring again, and let’s just cut to Candice’s closing performance. This girl blows the roof off of the Idol studio when she covers The Cure’s “ Love Song.” There is no way she’s not going to final round. After tonight, my money is on Candice and Kree in the top spots. Randy Jackson says he is speaking on behalf of all the judges when he calls it “one of the greatest performances in the history of American Idol.”

After an admittedly “rocky” Rock Week, FOX’s American Idol sent one hopeful home Thursday night — though without first welcoming alum Carrie Underwood and Season 9 standout Casey James back onto the stage.

The Top 7 kick off the results show with a cover of Queen‘s “Somebody to Love,” and I’m already wishing for Rock Week to be over. It’s just not the right genre for this group.

Jimmy Iovine thinks Burnell Taylor “got it all wrong,” and will be on the chopping block. “I’m baffled by last night,” he says. “He gave rock a bad name singing like he was in a different time zone from the band. At the very least, he’s in the Bottom 2.”

He also thinks Lazaro Arbos will be eliminated this week after he botched his song lyrics again. The music man is wrong however, as Lazaro ended up in the Top 3, ousting Candice Glover from the coveted bunch for the first time this season.

Once again, Ryan Seacrest skips the statistical rundown of voting and cuts right to the chase. Joining Lazaro in the Top 3 for the night are Kree Harrison and Angie Miller.

Season 9 finalist Casey James performs his latest single “The Good Life” and gave goodie bags to the contenders. Idol’s real country queen, Carrie Underwood, came out in a gorgeous gown to perform her soon to be hit, “ See You Again.”

Candice is next to join the safe group. I’m surprised she didn’t rank higher after her killer performance of The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” helped save Wednesday’s lackluster line up.

The next contestant in the clear is Amber Holcomb. Now, it’s down to Burnell and Janelle Arthur. While I think he has been the stronger singer overall, I know he’s going home. Janelle’s country cutie persona is just too hard to pass up and Burnell hasn’t connected with viewers as much as she has this season.

I hate to be right, but I am: Burnell is officially eliminated. Candice is crying as he sings his finally song. He chooses India Arie’s, “Ready For Love,” and seems to be looking straight at Amber and Candice.

All four judges stand up when he’s finished and Mariah Carey has tears in her eyes when Randy Jackson reveals they won’t be using their save.

“Unfortunately Ryan, we’re not gonna use it,” the judge says before signing off. “But good luck, Burnell. We love you, brother.”

Devin Velez sang his final song on the American Idol stage when he was eliminated Thursday night.

The baby-faced singer stole judges’ hearts when he auditioned in his hometown of Chicago. We didn’t meet him until Hollywood week was well underway, but he’s been a steady singer ever since.

His performance of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” that week was super strong, as was his first attempt at “Somos Novios” (It’s Impossible)” by Perry Como. His second stab at the song wasn’t enough to earn the judges’ single save of the season.

“I think I know who didn’t want to put me through,” he says. “She has a lot of girl power and maybe she wants a girl to win.“

He’s referring to judge, Nicki Minaj, who chose to skip the sad goodbyes and quickly exit the building after Velez’s final number.

“I had three judges come up to me, and that was awesome,” he says.

Even more exciting is the fact that Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson said they would like to work with him in the future. “Mariah said, ‘Down the road, I really want to do something with you,’ which is amazing because I can tell you right now that she doesn’t say that to everyone. I’m sure her people will call my people.”

The singer relishes the fact that he has made an impact on the diva. “Her heart was so sincere and her tears were not of joy, but I got to wipe a few so I’m not washing this finger,” he says. “To hear that I’m one of her favorite artists is awesome.”

Still, the singer wasn’t all smiles once the show wrapped and blamed his elimination on the disastrous guys group number for getting him kicked off the show. “I think it has a huge part because I know my solo performance was awesome,” he says of the pitiful performance. “I heard it from Smokey Robinson. I love America, but they don’t have any say because I sang his song and he loved it.”

He also alluded to some tension between him and the other boy on the bottom, Lazaro Arbos. “‘We were closer towards the beginning of the competition,” he says. “He was close, but not too close.” Meow.

“My clique was a lot of time with Angie, Amber, Kree, Janelle, Candice…I like to just hop around,” he says of his fellow contestants. “ I love them all.”

While many of his friends spent the night saying goodbye, Devin insists it’s just a brief intermission. “It’s not goodbye, its ‘brb.’ I’ll be right back for the finale and the tour.”

It’s a happy coincidence that Devin’s final bow came on the night his idol, Colton Dixon, took the stage.

“Colton was seventh place last season and I’m eighth, so seeing how far he has come in just a year, my possibilities are endless,” he says. “One year ago today, I tweeted that I loved Colton Dixon and that he was my idol and tonight. I met him; I took a picture with him and got to talk with him. It was awesome.”

Thursday’s episode of American Idol saw the return of two alums. The FOX show celebrated its 450^th episode and sent one more hopeful packing.

After an hour of suspense, Devin Velez is sent home. His dismissal is no big surprise — I called that yesterday.  Still, the crowd seemed shocked when he landed back on the chopping block for a third week in a row. Mariah Carey is visibly upset at the results, but the judges don’t agree to save him after his sign-off song, “It’s Impossible.”

Before the big news hit in the last five minutes of the show, fans are treated to some pretty good performances. Aside from the group numbers, Keith Urban takes the stage for the first time this season to perform his hit, “Long Hot Summer.”

Last season’s seventh place pick, Colton Dixon, returned to the Idol stage to sing “Love Has Come For Me.” Also back for the night is Season 5 finalist, and current Smash star, Katherine McPhee who delivers a delicious performance of “If I Lose Myself” with One Republic.

For much of the night, I think Lazaro Arbos is headed home. Jimmy Iovine keeps insisting it’s his time, and he did kind of ruin the guys’ group number.  Still, I think he’s too compelling to go home so soon, America just loves him.

Kree Harrison, Candice Glover, and Janelle Arthur are the first finalists to learn they are safe.  I thought Janelle might land at the bottom, but I’m glad she dodged the bullet.

Angie Miller is sent to the safe zone next and she looks really relieved after her solo performance fell flat for the first time Wednesday night.  Showstopper, Amber Holcomb is next to get good news, she’s safe.

Now that it’s clear a guy is going home tonight, I start sweating just thinking that Burnell Taylor is in the bottom. His performance of Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour” was one of my favorites of the season, but that horrid group number couldn’t have helped his case with America. I breathe a little better once Ryan Seacrest says he’s safe. Thank God.

Down to Lazaro and Devin, the stuttering singer seems super nervous. Iovine’s words are weighing heavy and he looks like he’s preparing for bad news. He’s sobbing hard when he hears that he’s staying put, and Devin prepares to sing for the judge’s save.

His choice of “It’s Impossible” is sung in Spanish, a trick the judges have enjoyed in the past; but it’s not enough to earn their save. “Unfortunately, for us, it’s not unanimous,” says Randy Jackson. “We won’t be using it.”

Nicki Minaj skips the sad goodbyes for a second week in a row, opting instead to leave the studio immediately.  With only two guys left standing, it feels like the competition will only get fiercer from here on out.

American Idol struck some highs and lows Wednesday night, when the FOX show saw its Top 8 contestants take their best shot at Motown.

Ryan Seacrest announces the night’s theme is Music of Motor City, which pretty much means Motown. Any artist from Detroit is fair game. The legendary Smokey Robinson is in the house as this week’s guest mentor.

Candice Glover is first with “Heard It Through The Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye. Keith Urban says, “You raise the bar exponentially!” Randy Jackson says it was “effortless” and “crazy good.” Mariah Carey agrees, saying, “You epitomize what this competition is.”

Kree Harrison and Janelle Arthur are up next with a duet of Madonna’s “Like A Prayer.” Janelle has a lovely voice, but singing next to Kree? This could be a bloodbath. And… it is!

Nicki Minaj gets right to the point. “Ms. Kreedom! Kreedom almost made it look like she flew in to do a duet with an Idol contestant today,” she says. “She was so calm and so reserved and not trying hard, her voice sounded like butta! Kree definitely outshined you my darling.” Too bad the judges burst her bubble before she gets to sing solo.

Lazaro Arbos takes a slowed down approach to “For Once In My Life” by Stevie Wonder. It’s the first time I don’t hate his outfit. I still don’t like it, but I’m not as offended as usual. He’s really on tonight. This genre is certainly more in his wheelhouse than past week’s selections. He looks like he knows he rocked it. Yay Laz!

Freshly bruised from the judges beating, Janelle Arthur is going to play the guitar while she sings her own arrangement of The Slippers’ “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” The judges love it.

“You always shine when you have your guitar in front of you,” notes Nicki. “You’ve been smiling more today… sometimes when you are so happy, maybe you’re not paying attention like you normally do. Your voice isn’t how it normally is, in my opinion.” The crowd disagrees, but I think she’s right. I was bored. Something is missing.

Devin Velez manages to ruin one of my favorite oldies, “Tracks Of My Tears” by guest mentor, Smokey Robinson. Pretty sure he’ll be on the chopping block by tomorrow. The judges really like it, but they’re crazy.

Candice, Amber Holcomb, and Angie Miller are performing together and it’s the best moment ever. They sing “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me,” and they do. These girls are so good, it’s just triple the talent. Love, love, love.

Burnell Taylor chooses “My Cherie Amour” by Stevie Wonder. Ah-mazing. His all white suit is a little weird, but I can get past that. Somebody sign this boy NOW!

“Yes sir! You reminded us why we fell in love with that voice tonight!” gushes Nicki. “It’s very artsy to watch and hear you sing.” Amen, sister!

Is it me, or does Angie look a LOT like Miley Cyrus in her pre-punk days? The judges don’t like her rendition of “Shop Around” by The Miracles. Nicki blames Jimmy Iovineagain. I’m sure she’ll survive. It wasn’t terrible; it just wasn’t her usual standout moment.

The guys’ group performance of The Four Tops’ “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) was a total disaster. It looked like a homebound Hollywood week audition. Nicki is pissed and pulls no punches when she says, “I don’t know what that was, but I’m going to act like I didn’t even see it or hear it!”

Amber is up next with another killer dress on. Her try at “Lately” by Stevie Wonder earns a standing ovation from the judges, even Mariah. “And THAT was Tour de Force!” Silence. “Does anybody know what that means?!” Her flattery falls on deaf ears, but the rest of the panel picks up the slack. Just another failed one-liner for Mimi. “The best vocal of the night!” declares Randy.

Kree kills it again with her show-closing version of “Don’t Play That Song” by Aretha Franklin. “You’re here to stay in this competition,” says Mariah. Talk about an understatement.

I think Devin Velez and Janelle Arthur should be nervous.

Not everyone in Hollywood has dropped pounds by diehard dieting and fitness… some have taken drastic measures by going under the knife.

Stars like American Idol judge Randy Jackson and The Talk‘s Sharon Osbourne have been open about their weight-loss procedures. While some undergo gastric bypass surgery, in which the stomach is divided into two, others opt for an inflatable gastric band that surrounds the top of the stomach to slow down food consumption.

So have these celebs achieved their desired results? You may be surprised by their answers.

Though Jackson has kept off the weight — shedding an impressive 114 pounds since his 2003 surgery — Osbourne found a loophole to the slim-down effect.

After losing 125 pounds following her Lap Band surgery in 1999, the talk show host says she still found ways to eat more than she should.

“The band was not the solution to my weight struggles, as I had hoped it would be. It was just like everything else, you find a way around it,” she writes on her diet blog. “And I found out that if I had a glass of wine, it loosened it up and I could eat whatever I wanted, so it became redundant.”

Likewise, fitness and nutrition expert JJ Virgin, who also starred on TLC’s reality series Freaky Eaters, says weight loss surgery is “absolutely not” the ultimate cure-all.

“Studies show bariatric surgery can reduce risks for diabetes, sleep apnea, and other problems,” Virgin told Celebuzz. “But a very recent study showed it’s also expensive and doesn’t improve overall health or increase lifespan.”

“There are risks involved with the surgery, and someone considering it would need to weigh those risks with any potential benefits,” she continued, adding that it should only be considered if the person has exhausted all other options, including working with practitioners to address potential hormone issues, following a balanced diet, completing high-intensity interval training and addressing psychological issues.

Virgin also tells CB! that opting for surgery is not a quick fix… and even post-surgery weight gain is likely to occur.

“The problem is a lack of long-term behavioral and nutritional counseling to make this change lasting. If the person goes back to eating the way they did pre-surgery, eventually they will gain some or all of that weight back,” she said.

“So could it be helpful?” Virgin asked. “Sure, depending on the person undergoing it who works with professionals post-surgery to make fast fat loss lasting fat loss.”

American Idol sent another man home Thursday night when Paul Jolley landed at the bottom of the list. The FOX show abandoned its results ranking system, introduced last week, and instead opted for a direct line to the Bottom 3.

Devin Velez finds himself in the hot seat again after last week’s Bottom 2 showing. Also on the bottom? Amber Holcomb, who placed in the Top 3 of Jimmy Iovine’s personal picks list. Her performance of “She’s Leaving Home” was one of Wednesday night’s strongest vocals. I totally disagreed with the judge’s comments, suggesting she wasn’t “enjoying herself.”

When the results come in, the judges seem shocked to see her on the bottom. “I definitely think Amber should not be in the Bottom 3,” says Nicki Minaj. “That’s common sense.” Maybe they should watch what they say! America is listening.

The results show isn’t all doom and gloom; as three guest performers hit the Idol stage. Season 10 alum, Casey Abrams sings “I Saw Her Standing There,” same as Amber’s Wednesday night pick. I’m wondering why we have to hear this song again. I’m also wondering if Casey has showered lately. He certainly doesn’t look like he’s trying to launch an album, or gain a following.

Season 11 standout, Jessica Sanchez, debuted her new single, “Tonight,” with Ne-Yo. She also reveals she’ll soon be on Glee and release her debut album, Me, You & The Music, on April 30.

The five female finalists perform The Beatles’ “Here, There And Everywhere” and the four remaining males tackle Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Got To Get You Into My Life.”

The first three women to learn they are safe are same as last week: Kree Harrison, Candice Glover, and Angie Miller. Next to head to the winner’s circle is Janelle Arthur, whose Wednesday night turn at “I Will” was one of her best showings this season.

That leaves Burnell Taylor and Amber, two of my favorites, on the chopping block. Again, I’m shocked it has come to this. I thought Burnell’s rendition of “Let It Me,’ was flawless. When Ryan Seacrest says Burnell is safe, I’m equal parts relieved for him and terrified for Amber.

Thank goodness, my fears are quickly squelched when Ryan says Paul Jolley is heading home.

He picks Heart’s “Alone” as his sing-for-your-life selection. It’s not enough to earn him the judges’ save. “Unfortunately, Ryan, it’s not unanimous, no,” laments Randy Jackson. “Thank you, Paul, good luck.”

Short and sweet.

Did America make the right decision?

American Idol held its second live show of the season Wednesday night when the nine remaining finalists took their best shot at songs by The Beatles. The FOX competition delved deeper into the contenders’ backgrounds, showcasing videos from their families. While viewers at home saw some stellar performances, plenty goes on when the cameras stop rolling and the director yells, “CLEAR!”

Here are eight things you didn’t see on Wednesday’s episode.

1.) Randy gets more makeup than Nicki. While Mariah Carey takes the cake for most touch ups, Randy Jackson is a close second. He certainly requires more “face time” than Nicki Minaj does. What takes so long? He has no hair!

2.) Ryan jokes with the judges. Ryan Seacrest was all smiles Wednesday night, showcasing even more energy than usual. At every break, he hit the judges’ table to chat with someone, usually Nicki or Randy. He made funny faces at them a few times and seemed to comment on every singer after they performed.

3.) Nicki’s man is front and center. Ms. Minaj’s longtime beau, Safaree Samuels, sits front row at every show. On Wednesday night, he was seated next to executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe. He visits his girl at the judges’ table a few times during the commercial breaks, but so far, no smooching.

4.) The stage takes serious setup. Between sets, there are as many as 28 people rushing to set the stage for the next performer. With the short commercial breaks, it takes a village to set up and take down chairs for band members, stools for background singers and lights for special effects.

5.) Nigel’s special shout out. During Wednesday’s taping, Lythgoe got called out by the audience warmer, who found a diehard Nigel fan. Idol’shead honcho climbed up in the stands to give his fan a hug during the break.

6.) Mariah never looks in Nicki’s direction. While the ladies of the panel have stopped trading insults and backhanded compliments, there’s still some serious shade going down at the judges’ table. Mimi never even turns in Nicki’s direction, let alone speaks to her. The ladies go the full two hours with virtually no interaction whatsoever.

7.) Contestants wait forever to sing. More often than not, the next contestant to perform takes the stage at the top of the preceding commercial break. This leaves them standing onstage alone for up to five minutes. “It feels like an eternity,” says Janelle Arthur.

8.) Kree and Candice killed the crowd. Kree Harrison and Candice Gloverwere the only two ladies to earn a standing ovation at the top of their sets. Both ladies had the whole crowd on their feet from note one. They also both had the worst nerves of the night. “I get the most nervous out of anyone,” Candice admitted after the show. And Kree confided, “It was so nerve-racking to go first!”

There were tons of surprises on Wednesday’s episode of American Idol. The FOX show held its first Hollywood sing-off of the season and its first show without the full panel present at start time.

By now, you already know that Nicki Minaj was late, but you don’t know why.

Neither do those of us who were sitting in the studio when Curtis Finch, Jr.hit the stage to sing the night’s first song. The jury is still out on the real reason for the mishap, but in the meantime, here’s 10 things the cameras didn’t catch.

1. Don’t trust the audience. It turns out that those of us in the studio are prompted to stand after every performance. Before the show, it’s made very clear that this is not optional. So, if you want to know who really earned a standing ovation, watch the judges, not the crowd.

2. Nicki does her own makeup. She spoke to no one for the first few moments after she arrived, and instead pulled out a mirror and compact to touch up her face. This was quite a contrast from the glam squad surrounding Mariah Carey during each and every break.

3. Nicki had an attitude. Although she was cool, calm, and collected when she gave her first critique, off-camera it looked like a different story. Host, Ryan Seacrest was the first to speak to the tardy rapper once she arrived during the first commercial break. Clad in a hoodie and shades, she seemed to be making a point. What that point was, we’re still not sure.

4. Side conversations. Ryan seemed to be consoling the seemingly irritated superstar, and none of her fellow judges greeted her when she made it to the panel. Instead, a quick conversation with Ryan was followed by a longer exchange with a flustered-looking Nigel Lythgoe. He came to ask her a question, and she repeatedly shook her head, “No.”

5. Nicki saw Curtis sing. None of the contestants knew where she was either. After the show, Curtis revealed he was worried when he didn’t see her before the show. “I was like, ‘Where’s Nicki? I need you NOW!’“ he says. “But, when I got off stage she was right there and she said, ‘Good job.’”

6. Kree was battling a bad eye. “You wouldn’t know it from her stellar rendition of Roy Orbison‘s, “Cryin’,” but Kree Harrison couldn’t stop tearing up after the show. This time, it wasn’t the emotional night, but an irritation that caused one eye to pour profusely. “My eye is to’ up!” she said before heading down the press line.

7. The competitors are friends. The cast seems to share a genuine bond, chatting with each other over sandwiches and cupcakes between post-show interviews. Lazaro Arbos took time to gush about his Idol BFF, Amber Holcomb. “I love Amber. She and I have become very close,” he says. “I thought her performance was incredible.”

8. Candice is feared… and revered. Candice’s show-stopping performance earned the first real standing ovation of the night and it was well deserved. A few of her castmates were as blown away as the judges. “Everyone was amazing tonight, but Candice?” admitted Amber. “Once the drums kicked in at the beginning and she was like… wow.”

9. Mariah rolls deep. While all of the judges have security in place, Mimi’s crew is super serious. She’s always got a couple of big-boned bodyguards standing behind her seat at the judges’ table. When the show wrapped, it seemed like the whole studio had to wait for her to exit before they could leave.

10. The kids love Ms. Minaj. More than one contestant called Nicki their favorite judge, including Amber Holcomb. “She used to intimidate me,” she admits. “But now that she’s been showing me love, we’re good. “ Like the others, Amber was confused when she saw the empty seat. “Everybody was looking for her,” she said. “I thought she was gonna come in on a platform or something.”

Kree loves her too, saying, “Whatever she says is unpredictable, so I just go with it and it’s always hilarious.” As for her confusing “waffle” comment? “I knew what she meant, but this time she called me ‘Harry’ instead of her wife.”

Ryan Seacrest kept the show rolling on Wednesday when it became clear that rapper and judge Nicki Minaj hadn’t made it to the American Idol live show in Los Angeles on time.

After remaining judges Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban took their seats, Seacrest asked the crowd to keep their excitement up for three of the four judges that made it to the Top 10 performance on schedule at 8PM ET.

“I hear she’s seven minutes out and there’s some congestion on the 405,” Seacrest explained.

The rapper ended up missing the show’s first performer, Curtis Finch, Jr., arriving during the commercial break wearing a hoodie and sunglasses before country singer Janelle Arthur’s performance.

According to Celebuzz’s reporter at the live show, Minaj spoke to a nervous looking Seacrest and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe upon arriving — she was seen repeatedly saying, “No.” And no one on the panel greeted her when she arrived. It would take three songs before she’d speak to anyone, breaking her silence first with Urban. Yet even an hour later, she and Carey still had not spoken to each other.

When it comes to the new judges on American Idol, Jennifer Hudson isn’t singing praises.

“It’s taken a bit to get used to the new judges. I come from American Idol, so I’m used to seeing Simon, Paula and Randy,” she explained about the latest season during a visit on Live with Kelly & Michael on Friday morning. ”So now it’s new faces, and to me, [Cowell, Abdul and Jackson] represented the show. It’s kind of awkward for me to see it with new judges.”

If she were still on the show, how exactly would Hudson respond to their critiques?

“Well, I’m happy that [Mariah Carey]‘s there because she’s a singer, so she knows what to expect, how to judge, even the position that the kids are in when they’re auditioning,” she said.

But what about the other new judges, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban?  Hudson quickly deflected questions regarding the topic by avoiding them. She said, to laughs from the crowd, “Ummm, yes.”

Despite her opinion on the changes, the season 3 contestant still holds the show in high regard.

“American Idol changed the face of television,” she told Celebuzz’s The Daily Buzz host Hyla. “So, not everyone can say that. And, it’s always been a phenomenon. I’m proud to have come from American Idol, so I just say, go out on top.”

When it came to her recent performance at the Super Bowl, Hudson got emotional about collaborating with the students from Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.

“We were supposed to rehearse the song and I couldn’t get through the song,” she revealed. “I’m supposed to be here singing with the kids and I can’t even get through the song. They’re looking up at me and to think they were put in that position.”

In addition to the Super Bowl, the 31-year-old also showed off her vocal prowess at another national stage: President Barack Obama‘s inauguration in January, an experience that forever changed her life.

Hudson performed at Obama’s 2009 ceremony, and this time around was personally emailed by the POTUS and his wife about performing during their first dance during the inaugural ball.

“I was like, ‘I get to do the inauguration and I get to do the first dance!’” she joked. “I’m gonna frame that and put it in my house somewhere.”

It’s been quite the year for Hudson, who is currently starring in NBC’s Smash as Veronica “Ronnie” Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star. Speaking of stars, the Oscar winner will also be the latest recipient on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“It’s so exciting, when I heard about that, I was like, “Wait, I get a star? I haven’t done enough yet!” she gushed. “It’s such an amazing honor. I’m still in awe.”

But at the end of her busy days, Hudson relishes in spending quality time with her 3-year-old son David, who’s become known for giving his mom a few fashion tips.

“He brings me shoes. If I have on something he [doesn't] like, “Mommy, what is that? I don’t like that. Take that off,” she said.

Given his headstrong personality, Hudson — who’s been engaged to fiance David Otunga since 2008 — revealed her little boy even gave himself a new moniker: “Boss Baby.”

American Idol has returned!

Another new season of the hit FOX series — now in its 12th edition — means another new batch of auditions that will surely make viewers laugh, cry, cringe, look away or even reach for the mute button.

As fans count down to the highly anticipated new season — and its new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, Celebuzz is taking a trip down Idol memory lane to the outrageous auditions that Randy Jackson has witnessed since the show debuted more than a decade ago.

During season six, Rhonetta Johnson proclaimed the show had turned down “a superstar” after an awkward and unnecessarily long exchange with Jackson and then judges Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

“I guarantee you, if me and Paula Abdul walked outside nobody would even know she was a celebrity but they would think I was the celebrity. And that’s a fact,” the hopeful told cameras after being rejected.

FOX’s upcoming twelfth season of American Idol is sure to draw some curiosity with three new superstar judges whose backgrounds couldn’t be more different.

“It will be quite fun as you watch their different styles of judging and what they’re looking for,” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, 63, told the audience during Wednesday’s premiere screening event in Los Angeles.

“Mariah [Carey], I think, is looking for that singer/songwriter, that’s a true star, Nicki Minaj is looking for somebody that isn’t just there for their voice, but there for their performance, their charisma and everything else. Keith Urban is looking for an authentic singer, someone who is credible. Randy Jackson, I’d say, is looking for someone who sings on pitch,” he continued.

Their backgrounds couldn’t be more diverse. Jackson, 56, the veteran Idol judge has been with the show since its debut season more than a decade ago. Carey is a power vocalist and arguably one of the most celebrated voices of our time. Thirty-year-old Minaj is a relatively new celebrity (compared to Carey). She’s a rapper and pop princess who likes to employ several personalities, sometimes simultaneously. And Urban is an Australian country singer. Each has different styles, different perspectives, and different ideas on what they’re looking for from this year’s hopefuls.

Jackson seems pretty confident about his formula for finding the right contestants. “There are three things that are really big characteristics for me,” the musician said. “They are uniqueness, unbelievable talent, and star power. Those are the three things a great artist needs and will give you a shot at a great career.”

On the other hand, Urban is a bit more emotional about what he’s looking for in contestants. “The reality is that we all react differently to different things and so I think for me, at the end of the day, it has to speak to me,” he said.

“If a person is creating art and saying something in a way that I’m captivated by that person and I can’t take my eyes off that person, that’s it for me.”

Minaj confirmed Lythgoe’s assertion that she’s looking for an all-around entertainer more than a standout vocalist saying, “I think that it’s something where you’ll know it when you’re in the same room with it.

“If you named the 10 biggest stars out right now, who would you say has a Whitney Houston voice? That’s just not where we are right now,” the hip-hop artist elaborated. “So, I think that because of this day and time, I’m looking for an overall entertainer. [I’m looking for] someone who is going to captivate people with or without music.”

Carey, 42, says she’s still learning what she wants in a contestant. And so far, her choices have spanned from favoring street performers to strong vocalists.

“To me it doesn’t matter, “ she said. “They can be unique in some way, different in another way. It’s a learning experience for me and what I’ve seen is that diversity plays into it in a deep way.”

Following this week’s shocking altercation between American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, one question remains: will the raucous rapper and divine diva clash again? Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine isn’t exactly saying yes — but from the sound of it, you may want to take cover. Just in case.

“The two of them — I don’t know. I’ve not been there yet, but it could pop,” says the music veteran, who’s set to return to the show for his third season of mentoring contestants.

And what does Iovine think of the apparently hot-headed Minaj?

“Nicki [is] unpredictable, right?” he told Celebuzz at the 21st Annual Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award event honoring Quincy Jones. “But really talented, but a whole different generation, a whole different attitude toward music and where it should come from.”

As for Carey, “[She] has a lot of information. She’s really a record producer,” Iovine said. “She’s talented, but she can back up her talent with A&R sense, and sense of the studio and how things are done and why things are done. So if she gives what she has, that’ll be really interesting.”

The two made headlines after their Oct. 2 altercation, caught in footage provided by TMZ; in it, Minaj is seen swearing loudly at Carey behind the judge’s table during a Charlotte, N.C. audition. Idol veteran Randy Jackson rises to his feet at one point and tries to restore peace; new judge Keith Urban, meanwhile, sits awkwardly between the dueling divas. 

Yesterday, Urban told Extra that he felt like “the UN” during the fracas. But despite the unsettling introduction into the Idol world, Iovine says Urban is bound to acclimate quickly — and do a bang-up job as judge.

“Keith is a real musician, great musician,” Iovine said. “A lot of his influence seems to be rock and roll to me. I don’t know him that well, because he does country, but it seems to be rooted in [Bruce] Springsteen and [Tom] Petty and [Bob] Seger and all that stuff. And that could be a great tool to have on the show because a lot of kids come from rock and country.”

As for Jackson?

“Randy’s just Randy,” Iovine said, smiling. “He’s great.”

And despite the drama, Iovine is looking forward to returning to the Idol set, where he’ll meet up with old friends and hopefully make some new ones.

“I know Mariah. I don’t know Nicki, and I know Keith a little bit,” he said. “But we’re going to get to know each other on the show.”

“It [will] be fun to see the whole new gang, the new judges. Keep them honest and stuff — make sure they’re doing their thing.”

Ryan Seacrest confirmed the world’s worst-kept secret on Sunday when he tweeted that Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson will join Mariah Carey at the judges’ table on American Idol Season 12.

Now, as auditions get under way in New York City, Celebuzz wants to know: Who will be the the most valuable expert at the table?

Newly announced American Idol judges rapper Nicki Minaj and country singer Keith Urban joined Mariah Carey and show veteran Randy Jackson for the show’s auditions at New York’s Lincoln Center on Sunday.

Host Ryan Seacrest joined the new panel for the first Season 12 cast photo and FOX released some shots of the judges outside the auditions with potential contestants lined up for their moment in front of the new panel.

What are the new judges looking for?

According to the Washington Post, Minaj says she’s looking for a “superstar.”

“Something that can’t be defined in words,” the 29-year-old rapper-singer vaguely explained.

As for Urban, who left his judging post on Australia’s The Voice for Idol, he says that his own experience competing in singing competitions will steer him away from being mean.

“I did similar shows when I was very young in Australia,” Urban, 44, pointed out. “And I was sort of crucified by one judge. So I don’t know that I’ll ever be that guy.”

Pushed against the deadline of Sunday’s on-camera auditions, FOX confirmed the new judges early on Sunday.

“Nicki’s an unbelievably captivating international phenomenon who has made an indelible mark on rap and pop,” FOX’s Alternative Entertainment President Mike Darnell said in a statement. “And Keith is another great addition to Idol – he’s one of the biggest stars in country music and I know that our fans and contestants will fall in love with him.”

Reportedly, Minaj is getting a $12 million dollar paycheck while Urban will receive between $3-5 million for filling the post.

Carey’s hire was confirmed back in July with a reported salary of $17 million. And Jackson’s position was precarious for a while until negotiations went south with Latin pop star Enrique Iglesias earlier this week.
