Most people know that teen superstars Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are Latinas. After all, Gomez has made no secret about the fact that she was named after the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, and Lovato (who’s also half-Mexican) appeared on the cover of Latina Magazine‘s December 2011 issue, and opened up to the magazine about her Latin roots and  what being Latina means to her.

But what a lot of people may not know is that, aside from Selena and Demi, many of the big stars in young Hollywood are also Latinos!

Bella Thorne, the white, freckle-faced star of the Disney Channel’s signature show Shake It Up? Cuban! Victoria Justice, the title character of Nickelodeon’s hit show, Victorious? Puerto Rican! Tyler Posey, the male lead on MTV’s dark reimagining of Teen Wolf? Mexican! Tristan Wilds, the star of the CW’s 90210 remake? Dominican! And Rebecca Black, the singer(?) who made the entire world cover its ears with her hit song “Friday?” Mexican!

Justin Bieber catapulted to superstardom after hip-hop artist Usher stumbled upon his homemade musical performance on the video sharing site. Likewise, “Friday” songstress Rebecca Black instantly became an internet meme for her song.

Who else found fame on YouTube?

From Glee actress Charice to singer Greyson Chance, who Ellen DeGeneres specially launched a new record label for, watch the video above for the hottest YouTube music stars.

Does Rebecca Black have staying power? While she’s managed transition from YouTube fail sensation to being accepted in the mainstream, she has a long way to go before becoming a successful music act.

Celebuzz talked to branding expert Rob Frankel (robfrankel.com), whose clients include Disney and Burger King, and written books on the subject. He’s also appeared on NBC Nightly News,  FOX News and many other TV shows talking about branding.

According to Rob, unless she is able to move forward as a successful brand, Miss Black will eventually fade into oblivion.

What is branding and why is it so important?
Branding is the most misunderstood aspect of Marketing. For me, branding is why you should be perceived by your prospects as the only solution to their problem. That’s the most important part of branding. Beyond that, you want people to be so clear on that that they’ll pass it along to others.

How does that work in Hollywood?
There are many women or hunky guys with great bodies and a lot of head shots that pass over a casting director’s desk, but I can tell you that there’s usually only one person that they go, “That’s our guy!” You need people to quantify that and know how to market that. When you’re dealing with celebrities, that’s what you need to do.

How do you explain the success of someone like Rebecca Black?
She got a ton of media and it became a popular thing, but the price you pay for non-branded high media is a very short life span. Where are William Hung and Susan Boyle? These are people who hit really high, really hard. There aren’t a lot of people with strong, long-term careers. You’re seeing a lot of people hitting a lot of places hitting really hard, really fast, getting the money and then falling off the radar screen. That’s probably the track you’ll see Rebecca Black on. There’s no discipline, no marketing and no management.

What people have is the short-term opportunity to get it while it’s hot and then we move on. What I would say is to take it back and talk about a brand strategy. I don’t know the people behind her; I’m just seeing the results of their actions. You can pay your way in to a lot of places. They’re not investing long-term here.

When you say that Rebecca Black doesn’t have a brand, what do you mean by that?
It goes back to my definition. Can you imagine a casting director saying there’s no one else like her? When you put it in those terms, you start to realize that there’s a lot of generic talent out there. Rebecca Black could be anybody. That’s bad. We know her video was paid for and that it was planned. We know that it was pushed virally. That could have been your pet hamster in the video. That’s not good, because it could’ve been anybody. That means that the value is not there. A year from now, she will still be a girl who made a really bad video.

If Rebecca Black would come to you, what would you recommend?
Hire me! I’m only half kidding. I would say to slow it down for a second to figure out a solid brand strategy so that the people who book you and do deals with you can approach you thinking they have to sign you because no one else does what she does. It’s all about strategy. You want people to think she’s a good person to do business with and know that she delivers.

Rebecca Black is on the press offensive, and after giving a candid Nightline interview discussing the effects of fame and bullying, she belted out her hit song on America’s Got Talent on Wednesday night.

Black brought the infamous song “Friday” to the AGT stage, ripping through an abbreviated version of the viral sensation — complete with a glittery backdrop, dancers, and no autotune. After Black finished, host Nick Cannon was so enthused that he sang some of the lyrics, calling it “my jam.”

The performance came on the same day that Black’s interview with Nightline revealed that she dropped out of high school because of bullying she faced after “Friday” was released.

“I’ve had a lot of experience with not being likes and all that,” she said. “I think if I hadn’t had to deal with that in the past then I totally would have handled this differently and I would have gone down in burning flames. But I’ve learned that you just can’t let it get to you.”

Internet sensation Rebecca Black and Glee gal Lea Michele are both pretty girls, but have you ever noticed just how much the two look alike? We didn’t until this past week when Rebecca released her second music video following the infamous success of “Friday”!

This got Celebuzz thinking, while each celebrity has individual features that make them shine, some celebs look just a little too similar. So, who are some of these lookalike celebs?

For instance, thanks to The Watchmen star Jeffery Dean Morgan and new dad Javier Bardem‘s square jaws and scruffy beards, they pretty much look like twins who were separated at birth.

She adds, “It’s just so weird. It’s weird but it’s cool.” Black is one of the latest to step out against bullying, admitting that she too has been bullied. “What you can’t do is let them stop you from what you wanna do.”

Rebecca Black is back! The YouTube sensation is once gain turning to the internet — this time asking for random fan questions over at Buzznet.

Although she’s famous for her song “Friday,” the questions can be submitted any day of the week.

After being pulled from YouTube earlier this week, Rebecca Black‘s infamous “Friday” music video has returned to the Internet with some perks! A special director’s cut has emerged following Ark Music charging viewers $2.99 to watch the original viral video and then taking it down entirely. 

Note: Hours after posting this video/story, the director’s cut was unfortunately taken down.

Rebecca responded to the rental fee on Twitter: “Thanks for all the messages regarding the $2.99 fee added to Friday video, I have NOTHING to do with this!!”

While the “Friday” drama was unfolding, Rebecca appeared in some other weekend party footage . The singer, who made Friday famous, appeared in Katy Perry‘s new video for “Last Friday Night (TGIF)”.

In the video, Rebecca dresses up Katy’s geeky alter ego for the ’80s party she’ll never forget! Also at the bash, Glee guys Kevin McHale, Darren Criss, the brother band Hanson and sax player Kenny G … to name a few.

When it comes to amazing music videos, Katy Perry does not disappoint, and her latest effort is no exception!

The songstress teased us with a short clip from the video to “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” last week, and the real thing is finally here! Among many other silly moments, the video for the catchy tune shows Katy getting a makeover from nerdy teen to a sexy siren in a very 80s way.

We all knew that YouTube sensation Rebecca Black was set to make an appearance, but we were pleasantly surprised to see a couple of our favorite faces from Glee as well.

Kevin McHale (aka Artie) makes a cameo as nerd who is majorly crushing on nerd turned bombshell. Also in the video? Sax man Kenny G and the Hanson brothers! Also, in the extended Funny or Die cut, Glee crooner Darren Criss shows up as well. Jeez, who ISN’T in this music video?!

As the Dancing with the Stars pros and celebs get ready to hit the ballroom floor Monday night, Celebuzz has snagged their special YouTube tribute to Rebecca Black.

Chelsea Kane and her partner Mark Ballas joined rapper Romeo and his pro partner Chelsie Hightower for a cover of Black’s infamous song “Friday.” Kane got the track started, while Ballas jumped in with a little beatbox. But they’re not the only ones covering this Internet sensation’s music!

There’s a rumor going around that singing show Glee will sing “Friday” on their special prom episode. Meanwhile, Black continues to make famous friends. The singer recently tweeted that she got a “mini tour” of Lady Gaga‘s tour buses when she attended her concert, and Katy Perry tweeted a “new song” that included the vocal stylings of both Black and herself.

It’s Black Friday … according to Funny or Die!

The website has posted a slew of new clips, all starring none other than overnight Internet sensation Rebecca Black. Celebuzz favorite: her movie trailer spoof titled Sunday Comes Afterwards where the “singer” becomes the leader of an apocalyptic society. 

“After all her friends are gone, this once famous Internet star becomes an unlikely leader,” an off-camera voice says intensely. “Life goes on,” Black says assuredly to the crowd. “Tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes afterwards.” She then breaks into song as the crowd cheers, “I don’t want this world to end!”

In real life, Black continues to make famous friends. The singer just tweeted that she got a “mini tour” of Lady Gaga‘s tour buses while at the concert last night, while Katy Perry tweeted a “new song” that includes the vocal stylings of both Black and herself. 

Success is truly the best revenge. Rebecca Black — an unsigned 13-year-old singer who has become a YouTube sensation with a song Rolling Stone called an “unintentional parody of modern pop” — has reached over 16 million views and a top slot on iTunes. Still, the teen says she cried over the harsh feedback online.

In an interview with GMA, she said the negative onslaught initially got to her: 

“At first, when I first saw all these nasty comments, I did cry. I felt like this was my fault. And I shouldn’t have done this, and this is all because of me. And now I don’t feel that way.”

She now seems to be having a little fun with all the attention, playing on some critiques by taking to Twitter to ask if she should have a bowl of cereal or fried eggs to eat (haters bemoan that the chorus to “Friday” sounds like “fried eggs,” she also sings about her breakfast routine in the song).

With the heavily auto-tuned track, many wondered if Rebecca can sing at all — so she proved her pipes during the interview by singing part of the national anthem completely in tune. She seems to have a realistic outlook about her ability:  

“I think I have talent on some level. I don’t think I’m the worst singer, but I don’t think I’m the best singer.”

“Friday” is now #39 on iTunes. No word yet on a follow-up single. See the full GMA report below:
