The late Tony Scott – also a director — was perhaps best known for helming Cruise’s Top Gun.

The two dined at a London restaurant on Saturday night, but they weren’t alone: the actor and the Alien creator were joined by none other than R&B star Usher.

In a photo snapped at the dinner table, the superstar trio, along with two female friends, flashed smiles for the camera.

What is Cruise doing in the UK?

The 50-year-old has been working on All You Need Is Kill, co-starring Emily Blunt. But his trip across the pond hasn’t been all work and no play: he reportedly got a cheeky spanking last week at Matt Damon’s raucous 42nd birthday bash at Simon Hammerstein’s London club The Box. Also on hand were Blunt, The Avengers hunk Chris Hemsworth, Bill Paxton and party organizer John Krasinski.

Since his divorce from Katie Holmes was finalized in late August, Cruise has also worked on Jack Reacher with actress Rosamund Pike, and Oblivion with former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.

Scott, meanwhile, has been working on The Counselor with Brad Pitt. His brother tragically jumped to his death from a bridge in San Pedro, Calif., in August.

Usher, 34, also faced a devastating loss recently: his 11-year-old stepson Kyle Glover died in July following a jet ski accident.

Meanwhile, Warner Home Video released a pair of Alfred Hitchcock thrillers – including a uniquely dimensionalized movie for folks looking to add old-school titles to their 3D collection – as well as the latest season of a hilariously irresponsible TV show.

Take a look at Celebuzz’s Blu-ray picks for this week below.

How does Hitchcock’s 3D movie compare to current ones?

Bond 50 (Fox Home Entertainment)

The One-Liner: All 22 of the films in the James Bond series (not counting the goofy ‘60s Casino Royale or Sean Connery’s Thunderball remake Never say Never Again) arrive in high definition in a deluxe set with more than 100 hours of bonus materials.

Picture Perfect? Most of the films already debuted on Blu-ray individually, but the arrival of titles like On Her Majesty’s Secret Service offers newly bright and beautiful transfers of fan favorites.

What Else Is There? Again, more than 100 hours of extras gives Bond fans plenty to pore over, but the stuff that’s not carried over from earlier releases – including a “roundtable” featurette with all of the actors discussing their role as the superspy – is a little underwhelming at three minutes, especially since it’s culled from archival footage and nothing new.

How Badly Do I Want It? If you’re a Bond fan at all, you want to kill for it – and even if you have earlier home video versions, this is the definitive set, so definitely pick it up.

Dial M For Murder (Warner Home Video)

The One-Liner: Hitchcock’s only 3D film comes to high-definition with a glorious transfer, offering many fans their first-ever opportunity to see the film in more than two dimensions.

Picture Perfect? The transfer looks absolutely glorious, as so many of Warner’s old-school films often do. And the 3D is pretty remarkable given the fact that it’s an almost 60 year-old movie shot with some of the earliest 3D technology available. But there’s also a lot of ghosting around the actors – thanks to that primitive technology – making this more of a historical benchmark than an aesthetic one.

What Else Is There? The film’s theatrical trailer and the documentary “Hitchcock and Dial M” don’t add a whole lot to the set, especially since they’re simply carryovers from the DVD iteration of the film.

How Badly Do I Want It? Although the film is a bona fide classic in 2D, the 3D version feels like more of a one-time experience, so Dial M may be a movie better set for rental than purchase.

E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial (Universal Studios Home Entertainment)

The One-Liner: Steven Spielberg’s runaway sci-fi blockbuster phones home again on Blu-ray.

Picture Perfect? The new transfer is incredibly beautiful, offering clarity and detail unparalleled by previous releases.

What Else Is There? Most of the extras appeared on the previous DVD version, but there are a couple of new bonus features – including an hour of mostly unvarnished behind-the-scenes footage and a great new interview with Spielberg – help give this 30th Anniversary set additional historical and artistic perspectives.

How Badly Do I Want It? It’s a must own, without question.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 7 (Fox Home Entertainment)

The One-Liner: After six seasons, Mac shakes things up by fattening himself up – for no very good reason – while the rest of the cast continues to engage in hilariously irresponsible hijinks.

Picture Perfect? Thankfully there’s nothing lost from broadcast to Blu-ray with this transfer, which carefully preserves the show’s HD source material.

What Else Is There? Commentary tracks are always fun on It’s Always Sunny episodes, but “Artemis Tours Philadelphia” is this season’s standout extra, thanks to typically funny observations from Artemis Pebdani.

How Badly Do I Want It? If you’ve previously collected any seasons of the show, this is a must-own. But it’s definitely worth checking out, even if you’re watching episodes piecemeal or online.

Prometheus (Fox Home Entertainment)

The One-Liner: Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof confound Alien fans with a visually stunning, mythologically-lacking prequel that retains much of its charm on the small screen – as well as many of its problems.

Picture Perfect? In 3D, there are few films more beautiful, thanks to Scott’s gorgeous, clear-eyed compositions; truly reference-quality images that look stunning and immaculate. In 2D, the film is almost as gorgeous, but Scott composed in 3D so it’s the preferable format.

What Else Is There? Two commentary tracks attempt to explain and explore the film’s complicated and unfortunately not fully-formed mythology, while more than 30 minutes of deleted scenes offer additional material that might not answer questions, but it will keep you entertained with the promise of what might have been.

How Badly Do I Want It? Oddly, I think this is a must-own, if only for the beauty of the transfer (yeah, even in 2D), but don’t expect the home video version to answer your objections, maybe just gloss them over with some gorgeous imagery.

Strangers On A Train (Warner Home Video)

The One-Liner: Hitchcock’s 1951 film come to Blu-ray in a new edition that perhaps most significantly features a quote from iconic critic Pauline Kael arguing it’s the filmmaker’s best American work – which is a provocative claim, if nothing else.

Picture Perfect? Another terrific transfer from the folks at Warners, who bring the film to life – in two versions – in crisp, clear black and white.

What Else Is There? As mentioned, the disc offers two versions of the film – a “preview version” and the final cut – but the nuanced differences between the two notwithstanding, five featurettes more than get inside and underneath Hitchcock’s fertile creativity.

How Badly Do I Want It? As with Dial M, a movie that’s a must-own for Hitchcock devotees, but as a rental or purchase these are the definitive versions of these films on home video.

It’s even rarer that the dirctor who cut him is also the one who gave him his first big break.

Yet that’s what happened with upcoming Oscar hopeful Life of Pi, directed by Ang Lee, who gave Maguire two of his earliest starring roles in The Ice Storm (1997) and Ride With the Devil (1999).

Their latest partnership, which had Maguire filming a brief role as a writer in Lee’s adaptation of the Yann Martel bestseller, was interrupted this month when the filmmaker announced that he’d snipped out Maguire’s performance in Pi and replaced it with one by another actor.

Who took Tobey Maguire’s slice of Pi?

Rafe Spall, who played a scientist in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and the milquetoast boyfriend of Anne Hathaway’s character in One Day, was cast in the role that Maguire played after the former Spider-Man star was considered “too famous,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Maguire not only accepted the announcement that he’d ended up on the cutting room floor, but offered one of his own in support of the decision.

“I fully support Ang’s decision to go a different direction for this role in Life of Pi,” Maguire said in a statement to THR. “Ang shared a lot of the film with me, and what I saw was absolutely beautiful.”

Lee said of the decision, “To be consistent with the other casting choices made for the film, I decided to go with an entirely international cast. I very much admire Tobey and look forward to working with him again in the future.”

Maguire is the latest star to be cut out of a movie, but he isn’t the only one: just weeks ago, Rachel Weisz revealed that her performance was removed from Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder. (Jessica Chastain, Amanda Peet, Michael Sheen and Barry Pepper were also cut out of that film.) And Uma Thurman, who once played Blake Lively’s mother in Oliver Stone’s Savages, is absent from the finished film.

Life of Pi is scheduled for release on November 12, 2012. Watch the trailer for the film below.

Among them: initial reports that the 68-year-old helmer of Top Gun was suffering from brain cancer appear to be false. Scott jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, Calif., on Sunday.

Read on for the very latest developments…

1. Brain cancer story is shadowed in doubt. Craig Harvey, a chief for the Los Angeles coroner’s office, said Scott’s family has denied that he was suffering from the disease. ”The family told us it is incorrect that he has inoperable brain cancer,” Harvey told the L.A. Times. In addition, ABC has a backed off its initial — and widely reported — story that claimed the director had the disease. At around 6:30 p.m. yesterday, ABC News posted a new story with the headline, “Tony Scott Brain Cancer Report Appears in Doubt.” In it, ABC admitted, “The family of director Tony Scott, who died Sunday after jumping off a Los Angeles bridge, was not aware Scott had cancer.”

2. Death video is being shopped. Several witnesses who saw Scott take his leap from the Los Angeles bridge — and who captured the moment on videotape — are trying to hawk the film to news agencies, reports TMZ. According to the site, several people used their cell phone cameras when they noticed Scott climbing over a fence in the middle of the day. The footage was also captured by a surveillance camera belonging to a nearby business.

3. Denzel Washington joins Hollywood in mourning Scott. “Tony Scott was a great director, a genuine friend, and it is unfathomable to think that he is now gone,” Washington told E! News. ”He had a tremendous passion for life and for the art of filmmaking and was able to share this passion with all of us through his cinematic brilliance. My family sends their prayers and deepest condolences to the entire Scott family.” Washington was directed by Scott in the action flicks Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, Deja Vu, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and Unstoppable. Just yesterday, Tom Cruise — the star of Scott’s Top Gun – said the director was “a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable.”

4. Ridley Scott suspends production of The Counselor. Tony Scott’s brother, also a famed director, has stopped shooting the all-star drug drama for a week as he travels to L.A. to be with family, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Counselor, a 20th Century Fox film, features Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and Michael Fassbender.

At just 68, the director of Top Gun and producer of The Good Wife jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, Calif.

Here are the latest developments in the tragic story…

1. The director had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. A source close to the director told ABC News that Scott had recently found out about the severe health issue. Sources told the New York Post that Scott had “recently underwent surgery which he had told people was a hip operation, but friends feared it was a recurrence of cancer.”

2. The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office confirmed authorities are treating Scott’s death as a suicide. An autopsy is likely to be performed Monday; during the examination, the coroner will also investigate whether the reports over his heath crisis are true.

3. Tom Cruise releases statement. The star of Scott’s Top Gun says the director was “a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable.” Cruise added: ”Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him … My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time.”

4. The Good Wife’s Julianna Marguiles joins Cruise in mourning the man who produced her popular series. “I was so deeply saddened to hear the news today of Tony Scott’s death,” she said in a statement. “I have had the pleasure of working with him for the past four years on The Good Wife and I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful producer. His kindness, intelligence and talent inspired all of us. We will miss him every day. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

5. Ridley Scott boards a plane bound for Los Angeles. Tony Scott’s older brother — also a famed director — was seen leaving Heathrow Airport in London on Monday in an effort to be with his brother’s family.

6. Scott’s family requests privacy. The publicist for Ridley Scott made the statement on the family’s behalf, saying “I can confirm that Tony Scott has passed away. The family asks that their privacy is respected at this time.”

7. Authorities found two notes from the director. One note was reportedly found in Scott’s Toyota Prius, which he parked on the 185-foot high bridge prior to taking his own life. The letter was described as a “contact list” to allow authorities to notify his family of his death. Authorities also found a suicide letter at the director’s office, details of which have not been released.

Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly teaming up with legendary sci-fi filmmaker Ridley Scott (of Blade Runner and Alien fame) for an on-screen adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s classic dystopian nightmare novel Brave New World, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Currently, the two are only signed on to produce the project, but it is expected that Scott will take the helm as director with DiCaprio as his leading man.

Published in 1932, the novel is set in the 26th century during a long period of world-wide peace under rule of a unified global government called The World State. Natural human reproduction has become outdated, making way for hatcheries that can grow thousands of babies at a time, and monogamy, along with the idea of family, is a thing of the past.

Bernard, the story’s main character and the likely role for DiCaprio, derails this perfect system when he falls in love.

Leave us your comments: Do you think Leo can handle this sci-fi adventure?

They first met on the set of The Quick and the Dead and both managed to fight off the wiles of Ms. Sharon Stone.

We know this because USA Today reports that Crowe thinks DiCaprio still had his v-card while he was making the movie. Gee thanks, Russ.

Crowe claims that DiCaprio has since developed a taste for “beautiful lasses.” Yeah, we know.

Crowe also kept playing a running joke on DiCaprio, in which he would sneeze and then spray mist from an atomizer on DiCaprio when he was in the makeup chair.

Crowe’s really taking over the role—and the appearance—as jolly comedy guy lately.
