‘The Avengers’ Continues to Dominate With $1 Billion at Box Office

And the records keep breaking for The Avengers…

Just 19 days after its first theatrical release, the Disney flick reached another milestone by raking in $1 billion globally — making it the first time to reach nine digits in its second domestic weekend. The film had already previously broke the mold by beating out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘s top spot for the biggest opening of all time.

What does this new record-breaking number entail?

For one, The Avengers will be back for more as studio head Bob Iger recently announced a sequel to the blockbuster. The follow-up will start filming after the release of the third Iron Man movie and Thor sequel in 2013 and Captain America‘s newest installment in 2014.

The Avengers now joins Avatar, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as the selected few who has hit has hit the billion dollar mark globally.

Sorry, Potter fans! There’s a new champ at the box office.

The Avengers reportedly raked in a whopping $200.3 million since its Friday debut. This record-breaking number Hulk smashed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘s previous record of a $169.1 million opening weekend at the US box office.

What other movies has it knocked out?

The Marvel flick’s big weekend also surpassed The Dark Knight‘s $158.4 million opening and recent inductee The Hunger Games‘ $152.5 million debut. Both flicks now sit at third and fourth place respectively for the biggest opening weekend in history.

The Avengers, starring Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Evans, grossed a cool $18.7 million in midnight screenings alone before hitting gold with a $80.5 million Friday and $69.7 million Saturday.

The film is projected to make another $50.1 million on Sunday.

Overall, the movie grossed an estimated $641.8 million worldwide. It also broke records for the biggest opening weekend in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

The film’s success comes a month after Marvel and Disney announced a sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, which will be released April 4, 2014. A sequel to last summer’s Thor is scheduled for release November 15, 2013, while the third installment of the hit Iron Man series will arrive hit theaters May 3, 2013.

For now, many look to the Christopher Nolan-helmed The Dark Knight Rises as the next contender for box office domination. The film, based on DC Comics successful Batman series, is due out July 20.

Robert Downey Jr. Shares Pics of His New Baby Boy, Exton (VIDEO)

Robert Downey Jr. is a proud papa and couldn’t help but show off adorable photos of his new son when he stopped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday. Sharing a few photos of his first child with wife Susan, The Avengers actor, 47, gushed about his 3-month old son Exton.

“He’s so darn cute, isn’t he? You get one, that’s it. Unless, of course, you want to see the other one,” Downey said before showing another pic of Exton sporting a sweatshirt and orange pants. Aww!

The baby bragging doesn’t stop there though.

The actor, who also has an 18-year-old son, Indio, from a previous marriage, also stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and couldn’t quit talking about his little man.

“He’s smiling and talking a little bit,” he said. “It’s incredible.”

When Ellen questioned how a 3-month old could actually be talking, Downey laughed. ”Well, I mean, you know. I think he is. I go, ‘What are we doing? What’s happening?’ And he goes (makes noise). I go, ‘Really?’ Kind of like a bad date with somebody who is really small. It’s great, though. In this instance, it is a great date,” he said.

Celebuzz was front and center Thursday for the very first press conference for The Avengers, where most of the cast including Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo were in attendance.

Evans joked that even though he plays Captain America, he sort of brings up the rear when the superheros get together.

“I’m like, ‘Hulk you do this impossible thing, Thor you bottleneck a portal, Iron Man you fly over there…and I’ll just take the stairs.’” Chris told Celebuzz laughing.

So if he had to switch characters with one of the guys, who would he pick?

Oh man. See I want to say Iron Man becaause I love those movies, but who can do it better? Those shoes are too big to fill.

Downey, who was sitting alongside Chris gave a nod in agreement.

“I want to be Scarlett [Johansson]” chimed in Samuel L. Jackson. “I just want to be that cute for like, fifteen minutes.”

In all seriousness though, Chris liked that he had to be the grounded character on screen.

“That’s his role, it’s necessary,” Evans told reporters. “That’s kind of why I like it, because I’m used to cracking jokes and being a wise ass…it’s a fun character.”

When the cameras weren’t rolling, Chris and the gang definitely cut loss a bit, though!

“Chris [Evans] sent us a group text saying ‘Avengers Assemble!’ at such and such bar at 9 o’clock on a Saturday night,” Chris Hemsworth said, when asked why star Tom Hiddleston said the cast’s nickname on set was “group hug”. “That was a good group effort. We paid for it at work the next couple days.”

“You should see that group hug,” quipped Mark Ruffalo.

“Ya, 3 in the morning on the dance floor!” laughed Hemsworth.

The Avengers movie shut down Hollywood on Wednesday night with a star studded world premiere, and after the film, the cast all partied together at The Highlands. A couple hundred guests dined on sushi and short ribs, while sipping on wine and Red Bull cocktails.

Liam Hemsworth, 22, came out to support brother Chris Hemsworth, 28, who reprises his superhero role of Thor in the anticipated film. Miley Cyrus, 19, was noticeably absent from the festivities, but that didn’t seem to get Liam down! A party guest tells Celebuzz Liam looked “happy and relaxed” and that the brothers were in great spirits, sitting in a booth with a few friends.

Chris also had support from someone from Snow White and the Huntsman…

Chris H. was also spotted hanging with his costar Chris Evans, who had a great support system himself.

Chris E. had his mom, brother, and sister with him, as well as some of his best friends from home who flew into town. Seriously- this is one of the most down to earth guys in Hollywood!

He introduced his family to the Hemsworth’s, before posing for pictures with his gorgeous costar Scarlett Johansson. Jon Favreau also took time to talk with Evans for a while.

Robert Downey Jr. told Celebuzz earlier that he had a great time making this movie, and enjoyed filming with Chris E. in particular, adding what a “great actor” he thinks Chris is.

Said RDJ: “People may not realize that [Chris Evans] had one of the hardest roles in [The Avengers]. He had to unite us all, and he did. It was a real pleasure working with him,” Downey said, before joking: “Ugly guy too, right?”

The Avengers hits theaters on May 4, and trust us, you want to go see it!

A new trailer for The Avengers has been released, and it looks pretty amazing if you ask us! The film, based on some of Marvel comics greatest heroes, features a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) to name a few.

Congratulations to Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan!

The couple welcomed their first child together in LA on Tuesday morning, People reports. Weighing in at 7 lbs., 5 oz., and at 20 inches long, RDJ and wife named the bundle of joy Exton Elias. This is the second son for the Sherlock Holmes star, as he has an 18-year-old, Indio, from a previous marriage.

With a name like Exton, RDJ wouldn’t be the only celeb to name his baby something unique! From Beyonce and Jay-Z‘s newborn daughter Blue Ivy to Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy‘s son Bingham, check out other odd celebrity baby names in the gallery!

So what’s the meaning behind Exton’s name?

According to CuteBabyName.com, the name comes from the Shakespearean time and refers to ‘King Richard The Second’ Sir Pierce of Exton. Wonder if the Iron Man knew that when naming his new son?

It’s hard to keep up with how many Hollywood hunks share the name “Robert” (or “Rob” as some of them prefer), but Celebuzz has done the difficult task of narrowing it down to just four.

He also starred in Water for Elephants alongside Reese Witherspoon and completed work on a couple of films due out next year. This handsome actor may be the oldest of this bunch, but he is no stranger to Hollywood’s lists of hottest stars. Robert Downey Jr. is known for his consistently great roles in both hit television series and big blockbuster movies. This iron man of actors took 2011 to film several movies including Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (out in theaters now) and The Avengers (due out in 2012). Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Noomi Rapace were like one big, happy family at the London premiere of their new movie, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, held Wednesday evening at the The Empire Leicester Square.

RDJ looked handsome in a suit with a silver tie, while Jude kept his fashion standards high in a blue blazer, black pants and matching winter hat.

As for Noomi, she wore a more, well, interesting outfit – a full-length tube dress that was a mix of giant polka dots and vertical black-and-white stripes. We’re not sure how much we love it, but based on her smile, we’re happy she’s happy.

Backstage at the Scream Awards: Superheroes Unite!

The Scream Awards were held at Universal Studios over the weekend and it was a who’s who of comic book icons. Catwoman, Iron Man, and Ghost Rider were all meandering backstage, and Celebuzz was your eyes and ears for all the fun behind-the-scenes action.

Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were the trio to beat, and they brought the crowd to their feet when they accepted the award for Most Anticipated Movie for The Dark Knight Rises.

Back in the green room Anne, who looked dazzling, kept close to boyfriend (and new roommate!) Adam Shulman. The happy couple held hands as they mingled with fellow celebs.

Bradley Cooper was in attendance also and seemed to be in a gitty mood. Is Jennifer Lopez responsible, perhaps?

The two were spotted together Saturday morning, but she was nowhere in sight at the event Saturday night. Instead Bradley, looking great in a leather jacket and shorter new hair, hung with another guy most of the evening.

Robert Downey Jr. the Hero Award and the crowd went nuts! Fans even busted out posters that had Downey’s face planted on the famous “Change” poster from Barrack Obama‘s campaign.

Backstage he was heard talking with friends talking about how excited he is to be a father for the first time. He knows the sex of the baby, but is keeping it hush-hush. His wife is due in February.

New ‘Avengers’ Trailer Boasts All-Star Cast of Quirky Heroes (VIDEO)

It’s everything you love about you favorite heroes all in one movie trailer! From Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and his quick wit, to the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in her skin-tight unitard, Avengers promises to fill seats in the theater.

In addition to the awesome costumes and characters, the best way to describe this film is: Action, action, action! Cars blowing up and high-impact fight scenes don’t even scrape the surface of this comic book-turned-movie!

The film boasts an all-star cast that includeds Downey Jr. and Johannson as well as Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Mark Ruffalo’s The Incredible Hulk, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye. These men and women are called upon to save the world from complete annihilation.

The heroes recently posed for Entertainment Weekly, with Renner saying of the characters:

“Just because they’re super heroes doesn’t mean they’re super friends.”

First Look! ‘Avengers’ Cast Covers Entertainment Weekly

All the superheroes are joining forces on May 4, 2012, but until then Entertainment Weekly (on newsstands Sept. 30) has your first look of the comic book stars in their Avengers costumes.

The film unites Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Mark Ruffalo’s The Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. Renner told EW of the characters:

“Just because they’re super heroes doesn’t mean they’re super friends.”

This movie is sure to be full of surprises with writer-director Joss Whedon admitting to the magazine:

“There is a weird element of: they handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I’m making it up as I go.”

Robert Downey Jr. and Rachel McAdams Film Scenes for ‘Sherlock Holmes’ in London (PHOTOS)

Robert Downey Jr. and Rachel McAdams got down to business Thursday afternoon as they shot scenes for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in London.

The 32-year-old beauty was dressed to the nines in a blue corset dress and hat, while RDJ appeared to be wearing some type of Chinese disguise.

Rachel, who is set to reprise her role as Irene Adler in the movie, looked pretty serious while she filmed her scenes, but still found time to enjoy a few hearty laughs in between takes.

New York City’s Central Park got an extra dose of super-stardom Friday afternoon as the cast of The Avengers filmed a scene at the famed Bethesda Fountain.

Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo were just some of the principle castmembers on set to film a scene for the movie, which blasts into theaters on May 4, 2012.

Among the notable glimpses from the set included Scar Jo’s red-orange hair and Chris Hemsworth decked out in his Thor costume – not something you see every day in Manhattan.

Celebs Make Surprise Appearances at Disney’s D23 Expo 2011 (PHOTOS)

It seems as though not every celeb was at the wedding of the summer on Saturday. Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars spent the day at Disney’s annual D23 Expo!

Jason Segel, Taylor Kitsch, Jennifer Garner and others were scheduled to appear during the expo’s special preview of upcoming feature films, but a few other special guests made their way to the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA (home to the D23 Expo) to surprise the most devoted Disney fans. Who exactly were they?

None other than Hollywood blockbuster stars Chris Hemworth and Robert Downey Jr, and a little lady by the name of Scarlett Johansson — who showed up rocking a sexy orange minidress. Girl’s looking good!

Fans and staff alike were treated to a sneak preview of their next big films including the much anticipated The Avengers, which which crosses over several Marvel superhero films including Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.

Although Chris Evans was noticeably absent from the event, he sure received a loud round of applause from all the Captain America fanatics.

Sara Bareilles‘ “Uncharted” has been on repeat at the top of our favorite playlists for a few months, but the one thing that we love more than the sweet song is the accompanying music video!

The unique string of footage is jam-packed with celebs, including Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, twin sister Indie band Tegan and Sara and One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, among others, who proudly lip-sync along to Bareilles’ hit.

Chris Evans brought out all his Avenger pals for the Captain America: The First Avenger premiere in Hollywood Tuesday night. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) walked the carpet to support their costar Chris. And is it just us, or is Evans paying homage to RDJ with those glasses he is wearing? The very sexy trio has been busy filming The Avengers in New Mexico the past few months.

But the famous faces didn’t stop there.

Vanessa Hudgens, still rocking her short hair, Zoe Saldana, and Samuel L. Jackson (another Avenger) also were in attendance for Paramount’s star-studded event.

Celebuzz saw the movie and must say we loved it! Chris plays leading man very, very well.

Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law are back for round two of their box office smash Sherlock Holmes!

In the second installment, things are just as suspenseful as the first time around. The cunning Sherlock (Downey Jr) must solve another crime much to the chagrin of his trusty sidekick Watson (Law).

Looks like these two are in for a bumpy ride!

With plenty of mind boggling action sequences and a hint of humor, we’re sure people will be flocking to see this sequel that hits theaters in December.
