Another day, another shift in the marriage between Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn.

People magazine reports that Robin Wright Penn has filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years, less than three months after the couple decided to give their relationship another shot.

Robin filed divorce papers in Marin County, California, on August 12, while in May, Sean had halted divorce proceedings against her that he had launched in April. Wright Penn listed the cause of their split as “irreconcilable differences.”

According to the court papers, both sides have agreed to joint custody of their 16-year-old son, Hopper Jack, and that “the estranged couple have already agreed to division of all property.”

Saddened by this news? Wait around a day or two, it’s bound to change.

The couple had previously filed for divorce in December 2007, only to rescind the request in April 2008.

Sean Penn just can’t seem to commit to ending a relationship.

People magazine reports that, for the second time in almost as many years, the Milk actor has halted divorce proceedings against his wife, Robin Wright Penn.

Penn most recently filed for legal separation from Penn, whom he married in 1996, in late April. But on Thursday he filed a request to dismiss the separation, according to Marin County, California, court records.

“This appears to imply that they’re reconciling again,” says Lynn Soodik, a Los Angeles divorce lawyer who apparently moonlights as a master of the obvious. “It’s unlikely Sean Penn would request a dismissal for any other reason.”

Penn has had practice at this sort of thing. he and his wife filed for divorce in December 2007, only to rescind the request in April 2008.

And some people say the institution of marriage is in danger these days…

Extra reports that Sean Penn has filed for a legal separation from his wife, Robin Penn Wright, marking the second time the two have taken legal steps toward divorce the last few years.

The Milk actor first filed for divorce in 2007, but the couple—who have been married since 1996—attempted to reconcile their relationship. Unfortunately, the effort has apparently failed.

In the last few months, Penn, 48, is rumored to have cozied up to Lindsay Lohan and Natalie Portman.

During their last divorce filing, Sean and Robin sought joint custody of their two children, Dylan Frances and Hopper Jack, and it’s assumed that they will do the same again this time.

Star magazine claims that Sean Penn reportedly got cozy with the demure Natalie Portman after a dinner at the Sunset Towers Hotel’s Tower Bar on March 17th.

A witness alleges that Penn, who is married to actress Robin Wright-Penn, and Portman were “constantly touching each other” during their meal.

And that’s not all that is supposed to have taken place.

“They went to a bank of elevators that only goes to the spa or to private rooms,” a witness said. “They came back about 45 minutes later, and that’s when I saw them making out.”

“There’s a door outside of the hotel’s Tower Bar that has a bridge to the terrace, so it’s semi-private,” the eyewitness explains. “I used that path to get to the restroom, and when I came back, I had to go through some curtains — and that’s when I interrupted Sean and Natalie! When they saw me, they were startled and quickly composed themselves.”

Portman and Penn have met before, having previously served on the Cannes Film Festival jury in 2008.

Maybe he was trying to convince her to play the straight woman in the upcoming Three Stooges movie?

How fortuitous that star couples of all kinds showed to last night’s San Francisco premiere of Milk, just in time for a vote on Proposition 8.

Several boldfaced pairs made rounds at the movie’s unveiling, most making up the powerhouse cast that retells the life of activist and city official Harvey Milk.

Star Sean Penn and wife Robin Wright Penn seemed right at home with one another hitting Levi’s official premiere after-party for the film. This year saw the filing of divorce papers for the couple, followed by an Oscar hiccup, then a reconciliation.

Wright, dressed simply in a black military jacket, greeted moviegoers and execs while Penn chatted up castmate Josh Brolin at the bash, held at San Francisco City Hall.

Speaking of Brolin, he put his own divorce speculation to rest (perhaps) by bringing knockout bride Diane Lane.

A source, however, tells Celebuzz that Lane “tired quickly,” of the red carpet, breaking from Brolin to wait inside. Another source says, Brolin and Lane arrived in seperate cars to City Hall after the screening in Milk’s original stomping grounds The Castro.

Looking smitten (again, at an opportune time) was Grey’s Anaotmy star T.R. Knight and his May-December love Mark Cornleson, who was studying hospitality at an SF college before ditching to Hollywood to live with his famous man.

Then came broodster James Franco who kept a sweet mystery blonde, done up in a seafoam halter dress, three paces behind whenever cameras were around. Also Emile Hirsch with a black-clad brunette who walked the carpet with the young actor but wasn’t at his side during the party.

Love all around, folks! That’s how famous photog David LaChapelle felt, overheard by Celebuzz singing the praises of the movie’s “amazing tone and performances.”

Also spotted milling around the party was director Gus Van Sant, toasting his 1970s-set movie which is drenched in Levi’s 501′s and unthinkable haircuts.

“This cast, this movie, represents all the ideals of Levi’s,” the denim co’s President Robert Hanson told Celebuzz, “…courage and youthful, provocative energy.”

Right he is about all the cast—provocative on screen and off.

Sean Penn and his wife-for-now Robin Wright Penn may have mended their marriage for the time being, but their unconvincing efforts to put on a happy face during the premiere of the Robert De Niro/Bruce Willis comedy What Just Happened raise some serious questions.

Is Sean’s melancholic expression due to the fact that he’s haunted by memories of his fling with model/tree hugger Petra Nemcova?

Is Robin’s indecisive demeanor the result of news that her Milk man had recently swapped spit with his co-star James Franco?

Or maybe Mrs. Wright Penn is down in the dumps because her husband was ratted out for texting an old flame?

Cheer up, Sean! You might not be shaking the timbers with this anymore, but you’ve done a lot worse than your current companion.

Sean Penn and Madonna are ancient history, but something about kissing another man made the actor sentimental about his ex.

In Sean’s upcoming movie, Milk, the I Am Sam actor plays Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to hold public office in the United States. James Franco portrays one of Milk’s boyfriends, and the two share a hot smooch scene.

The Mirror reports that Sean was so “chuffed about” (translation: happy with) his dude-on-dude smooch that he was compelled to…text Madge and “brag.”

According to the paper, the source of this rumor is none other than fellow smoocher James. 

“After our kiss Sean texted Madonna and said, ‘I just popped my cherry kissing a guy. I thought of you. I don’t know why,” the Pineapple Express actor reportedly said.

Either Sean thinks his ex-wife kisses like a man, or he wants to express to her that he’s come a long way since the days of asking her openly gay brother if he had AIDS.

For James, sadly, the kiss wasn’t as text-inspiring.

Maybe Sean’s kissing skills are to blame for his rocky relationship with wife Robin Wright Penn.

Woman-child actress Dakota Fanning, 14, looked more bizarrely mature than usual at Village East Studios in New York last night, as her latest release Hounddog had its premiere.

The movie has generated controversy due to the fact that Fanning’s character gets a little bit raped in the flick, and Dakota was only 12 years old at the time of filming.

Also on hand for the premiere were co-stars Robin Wright Penn and Piper Laurie, along with bad liar Kirsten Dunst, who apparently just wanted to see a portrayal of preteen sexual abuse on the big screen.

Hey, it’s probably comforting for Kiki to see someone else get roughed up for a change.

Just when our brain was beginning to thaw at the previously inconceivable thought of Sean Penn and Petra Nemcova doin’ the deed, Robin Wright Penn has called off her divorce action.

Extra reports that Sean and Robin attended an Eddie Vedder concert at UC Berkeley, where Sean dedicated a song to his missus.  Guess being good buds with the headliner gets a guy onstage to pull off a move like that.

And now, even though Sean himself filed for a split weeks earlier and the two have had an admittedly stormy 18-year ride together (11 years married), it looks like the Penns are mightier than the discord.
