Angelina Jolie‘s long-gestating movie about Cleopatra is saying goodbye to director David Fincher and hello to Ang Lee. The Life of Pi director is circling the epic biopic, which the filmmaker acknowledged in a recent interview is something outside his wheelhouse. “I’m about to read the script. It just feels right to me after all the other types of films I’ve done,” Lee told The Hollywood Reporter. “What does it have in common with any of them? They’re all totally different! That’s what makes this perfect.” Lee is expected to enter pre-production on the film once Awards season wraps. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Speaking of Life of Pi, the American Society of Cinematographers recently nominated Director of Photography Claudio Miranda for outstanding achievement in cinematography.

Ellen Page is going to get her Road Warrior on. The Juno actress is set to star in the small-scale post-apocalyptic drama Into the Forest. Based on the novel by Jean Hegland, the story focuses on two teenage sisters, living alone and way off the grid, struggling to go on in the wake of an off-screen collapse of society. Another one of Spielberg’s projects is in the news, and it involves director Christopher Nolan. The man behind Warner Bros. successful Batman films will make Interstellar his next film. The film, written by Jonathan Nolan, centers on a team of astronauts who travel through a wormhole and must deal with complications stemming from time travel and alternate realities – which sounds perfect for the Inception director. Spielberg was previously attached to the film; no word yet if he will remain involved with the project in another capacity. Bottom line: Nolan going to space for his next film is not a bad thing. And in more directors-leaving-movies news, talks have broken down with Drive helmer Nicolas Winding Refn to direct Denzel Washington in the action thriller The Equilizer. Refn was circling the adaptation of 1980s hit TV show in December, and it looked like a done deal, but the deal fell apart at the eleventh hour for unknown reasons. Sony Pictures is currently racing to find a replacement in time to shoot the film in May. Hey Equilizer? May we suggest Spielberg? He’s recently become free, just sayin’… [Deadline]
