From faux hawks to safety pins, punk was in full force on Monday at the 2013 Met Gala in New York City.

Cameron Diaz rocked a belt with spikes, courtesy of Valentino, while Stacy Keibler and Sienna Miller donned a studded dress and jacket, respectively.

Miley Cyrus turned heads with her spikey bleached blonde hair, as did Anne Hathaway in her lighter, brighter mane.

Other stars used their eyes to bring out their inner punk to celebrate the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “PUNK: Chaos to Couture” exhibition: Kristen Stewart and Elle Fanning went with bright eye shadow colors; Jessica Pare, Katie Holmes and Karolina Kurkova went with the smokier variety.

Chainmail and fishnets were also popular with the stars — kudos to Gisele Bundchen, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Madonna.

Rooney Mara walked the red carpet with Givenchy‘s Ricarrdo Tisci at tonight’s Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Some of fashion and entertainment’s most beautiful people will flock to Manhattan’s Upper East Side for the black tie opening of PUNK: Chaos to Couture exhibition.

Both Mara and Tisci are a few of gala benefit’s co-chairs, with fundraising going towards the Costume Institute’s exhibitions, acquisitions, and capital improvements.

The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo star wore a white lace gown by the Italian house with dark plum lips.  Not too punk, but not too prim either.

Queen Bey has done it again!

Beyonce was just named Honorary Chair for the 2013 Costume Institute Gala.

The singer joins co-chairs Rooney Mara, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, and socialite Lauren Santo Domingo for the annual May ball.

This year’s gala celebrates the upcoming “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition, which is slated to run at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 9 to August 14.

And while Beyonce has graced the carpet of a couple Met Gala’s in year’s past, notably last year’s when she was the last to show up to the scene, it’s no wonder why the “Crazy in Love” singer has been named the highly-coveted title of Honorary Chair.

Since making her breakthrough in 1998 in The Mask of Zorro, Catherine Zeta-Jones has enjoyed a remarkable variety of acting opportunities: cat burglar, pregnant drug lord, a vaudevillian inmate, a hard-edged chef, and in her new film, Side Effects, a mysterious psychiatrist.

But after working with director Steven Soderbergh for the third time, Zeta-Jones says she immediately recognizes the difference between a project that will offer her real challenges and one that challenges her only to find something – anything – to do with a lackluster role.

“Moviemaking has got to be on the page,” Zeta-Jones tells Celebuzz. “When it jumps out at you on the page, it’s going to jump out at you on the screen. And to find a good script is like finding gold.”

“It’s when you have the script that’s not so good, an you’re going, ‘okay, what I going to do to make this anything kind of interesting?’” she continues. “And the work I’ve done with Steven has always been on the page.”

In Side Effects, Zeta-Jones plays a doctor who offers a second opinion to a psychiatrist (played by Jude Law) trying to find the right prescription for a patient’s depression. What soon unfolds is a complex web of murder and deception where nothing is as it initially seemed.

Zeta-Jones credits Soderbergh for offering her opportunities that she might not otherwise enjoy – opportunities which buoy her continuing enthusiasm for acting.

“The characters he seems to cast me in are certainly not one-dimensional,” she says. “And as an actor, to be able to read a script and find those nuances and surprise an audience with the twists and turns of the character is terrific.”

Zombie love ruled at the box-office last week, but can the heartfelt undead defend themselves against fighter jets, poison pills and identity theft? Taking in nearly $21 million, Warm Bodies will have to hold up against the Jason Bateman-Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief, the pharmacological thriller Side Effects from director Steven Soderbergh and the IMAX 3D re-release of Top Gun.

With the last few months being fairly top-heavy will horror/thriller releases, we’re willing to bet that Identity Thief will steal itself the top slot with a much needed dose of comedy. Despite being the critical darling of the group, however, it’s difficult to say whether Side Effects will find its audience.

This weekend at the movies, Magic Mike himself challenges one of the stars of Bridesmaids to Box Office Thunderdome.

Channing Tatum and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s Rooney Mara headline Steven Soderbergh’s psychological thriller, Side Effects, while Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman play it for laughs in Identity Thief.

Two movies enter, but only one movie leaves. Which new release will win No. 1 bragging rights?

Following his crazy successful 2012 at the box office, Tatum reunites with his Magic Mike director for Side Effects, a complicated thriller about murder, paranoia and prescription drugs.

Because Effects is director Soderbergh’s supposed last theatrical feature film before retiring, anticipation is higher-than-normal for a February release, despite the film’s mixed reviews.

Anticipation is also high for the high-concept comedy Identity Thief, starring McCarthy as the titular cyber criminal responsible for making life a very fresh hell for Bateman’s character.

Comedy tends to draw in some serous crowds at the box office, but so does C-Tates. And with last week’s champ, the zombie rom-com Warm Bodies, garnering very good word-of-mouth, this Box Office Battle is too close to call.

The less you know about Side Effects, the better.

At least that’s what the critics recommend for the twisted new film from director Steven Soderbergh, starring Channing Tatum, Jude Law and Rooney Mara.

Effects centers on Mara’s character, Emily, who finds herself suffering from depression when her husband (Tatum) is released from prison. The closer Emily’s marriage gets to normalcy, the more depressed and unpredictable she becomes – resulting in some truly surprising and violent consequences, especially for the young doctor (Law) assigned to her treatment.

On the eve of his pending retirement from Hollywood filmmaking, Soderbergh has been on quite the tear, crossing off one genre after another on his “To-Do” list. With Side Effects, the director can check off “psychological thriller,” but was the effort worth tackling at all?

This Friday’s release of Side Effects, the new thriller starring Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara, marks director Steven Soderbergh‘s last film. On the big screen at least.

The prolific director, who broke onto the scene more than 20 years ago with the provocative indie drama Sex, Lies and Videotape, plans to retire from Hollywood filmmaking. (His last “official” film, the Liberace bio-pic Behind the Candelabra starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, premieres on HBO later this year.) Soderbergh’s effortless ability to tell stories in a variety of genres – from drama to comedy to killer virus thriller – as well as his auteur-like sensibilities behind the camera means that his presence will be sorely missed on the silver screen.

A cursory glance at Soderbergh’s resume tells us one thing: He’s done it all. Literally.

Steven Soderbergh is talking about Rooney Mara, the leading lady in his new thriller, Side Effects. And Hollywood has been watching the 27-year-old actress very closely, ever since she caught the town’s eye in David Fincher‘s The Social Network. Mara went from the founder of Facebook’s ex-girlfriend to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, scoring an Oscar-nomination for the latter in the process.

Like most young starlets, Mara found early success in the horror genre. In 2009, she headlined the critically-panned remake of Nightmare on Elm Street - an experience that almost turned her away from acting.

“I hated it,” Mara told Vogue Magazine. “It left me thinking, If this is what is available to me, then I don’t necessarily want to be an actress. And then I got the script for The Social Network.”

Thankfully, not even Freddy Kruger could detour Mara from becoming one of the most watchable talents working today.

Since 2010, Rooney Mara has worked with David Fincher twice and Steven Soderbergh once – not bad for an actress whose “breakthrough” role also came that same year when she starred in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

But the actress tells Celebuzz that even with the abundance of great opportunities she’s enjoyed recently, there’s still a depressing dearth of real acting challenges for women.

“It’s hard,” Mara says. “There aren’t that many roles out there that are great for females, that are dynamic and complex.”

In Side Effects, Mara plays Emily, a young wife struggling to deal with depression who eventually turns to prescription medication that has dangerous side effects. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the roles that have distinguished her – her lead in Nightmare, and the title character in Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – have all been not just meaty, but dark, featuring a complexity, and a certain kind of melancholy which she’s really mastered.

Despite the acclaim she’s received, however, Mara insists that she’s interested in taking on different kinds of characters, and has tried to do so as much as possible. “Hopefully I’m succeeding, but I try and make sure everything I choose is very different from the last,” she says.

“I am more drawn to the darker stuff, but I think that’s because those are normally the more complex, interesting characters.”

Side Effects is a new psychological thriller from director Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s Eleven, Magic Mike) and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum).

For what he claims is his “final feature film,” Soderbergh lined up an all-star cast including Channing Tatum, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rooney Mara.

This will be Mara’s first major role since her breakthrough performance as the title character in David Fincher‘s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Meanwhile, Tatum, Law and Zeta-Jones all previously worked with Soderbergh — Tatum most recently on his epic 2012 stripper story Magic Mike.

In the film, Emily (Mara) and Martin (Tatum) are a successful New York wife and husband whose attempts to rebuild their life together are derailed when a prescription medication Emily is taking has some alarming and even dangerous side effects.

When Kate Mara needed some advice while shooting the Netflix series House of Cards, she didnʼt have to look far.

She simply called little sister, Rooney Mara, who’s worked with House of Cards executive producer David Fincher on two films, The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

“It was challenging [to shoot],” the elder Mara said at the show’s premiere party in New York earlier this week. “Because it was a new experience . . . so if I ever felt crappy about what I was doing or I felt like I wasn’t performing well I would call her and talk to her about it. Sheʼd always make me feel better.”

The series, which takes place in Washington, follows majority whip Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) who will stop at nothing in his quest to become president. Robin Wright plays his equally venal and conniving wife.

Mara, who turns 30 this month, plays political reporter Zoe Barnes.

“I wouldnʼt be a good writer,” she said. “I think too much about what Iʼm writing, it would take me forever and I donʼt follow politics at all!”

One thing the actress does like is Netflix.

“Iʼm obsessed!” she said. “I love it and I think itʼs genius how they make recommendations for you but sometimes it makes me laugh because they put movies on there that I donʼt like and I think, why would you think I would like this movie?ʼ

So has Netflix ever recommend anything starring herself?

“No! That would be kind of fun if they did!”

Although it remains a mystery precisely what sort of pills Mara’s character takes in the film, an exclusive new TV spot reveals that her usage leads to some potentially deadly consequences – albeit not for her.

Mara’s physician, played by Jude Law, is determined to get to the bottom of what happened – and how responsible he might be.

“I want to know what happened,” Law’s character says.

Another person questions Mara’s character’s culpability. “Did the person do it?” she asks. “Are they guilty?”

Law’s character responds. “Those are two very different things.”

Ryan Gosling is used to working a crowd – but not like this.

The actor, who’s filming an as-yet-untitled Terrence Malick flick in Texas, caused a stunning scene at his hotel last weekend in Lubbock.

“About 200 girls were waiting for him,” eyewitness Brooke Bailey told Celebuzz. “It was a mob! And it was amazing to see. All the girls were out in full force.”

The Texas Tech student and her pals, like many in the Lubbock area, looked for the 32-year-old Hollywood hunk all over town.

“I heard from a friend he was in town, but nobody believed it,” she said. “We heard he was spotted at so many places, but we couldn’t find him.”

Eventually, they pinpointed his elusive whereabouts.

“We were stalking him out!” she said with a laugh. “We found out he was staying at the Overton Hotel, so a group of five friends and I were able to get into the hotel. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink.”

And before long, the women’s persistence paid off: Gosling emerged.

“All of a sudden, they were no longer letting anybody into the hotel without a room key, so we knew something was going on and we kept our eye out,” Bailey said.

“Then Ryan ran down the stairs and out a side door. We were screaming ‘Ryan!’ He looked like he was having fun with it and was smiling. He even hopped a fence to get into a car.

“He 100 percent knew everyone was there to see him. He had sunglasses on, and he was on his phone. And once he saw everyone, he started running. I mean, he was in a dead sprint! This stuff never happens in Lubbock.”

This isn’t the first time Gosling has attracted a crowd while filming his new flick. Last month, Celebuzz reported exclusively he caused a female fan frenzy at an Austin grocery store.

While Ryan Gosling was nowhere to be seen on the set of The Untitled Terrence Malick Project on Friday, the actor’s co-stars gave onlookers plenty to talk about.

Rooney Mara and Val Kilmer tuned into their musical side, strapping on a guitar and taking to the microphone, respectively, at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas.

Michael Fassbender, meanwhile, delivered his lines behind a pair of stylish shades.

This is not the first time the music festival has been used for the film.

Around the same time last year, Gosling was spotted filming a scene on stage during electropop group YACHT’s set. The Hollywood Reporter also noted at the time that other acts, including Big Freedia and Neon Indianwere spotted filming some scenes.

The Untitled Terrence Malick Project also stars Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett and Holly Hunter.

Not only is Ryan Gosling good looking and talented, he’s got a big heart too.

Over the weekend, the A-list hunk, 31, took along a film crew from his movie set in Texas to attend a charity event for deaf children.

Gosling who is currently shooting a Terrence Malick film in the city of Austin surprised everyone at the event by making an appearance.

“Ryan was there filming with a crew,” said Anne Adams, the executive director of the Texas School for the Deaf who had organized the Spooky Skedaddle 5k and Festival.

“We actually didn’t know he’d be there. The crew had told us they may come by to take photos of the event to work into the film. But we weren’t expecting Ryan. It was a nice surprise.”

Gosling was joined by his co-stars Michael Fassbender, 35, and Rooney Mara, 27, and happily posed with the young fans who had gathered to catch a sneak peak of the movie star.

That’s quite the transformation!

By the looks of it, Rooney Mara has ditched her ultra-goth Girl With the Dragon Tattoo hairstyle for her latest role. The 26-year-old actress was seen on the set of The Bitter Pill in NYC on Tuesday, and was sporting not only longer locks, but her ‘do is considerably lighter as well. Showing off a bit of a smile, Rooney looked cute in a nude trench coat as she made her way to start shooting.

So, what’s this movie all about?

According to IMDB:

“A woman turns to prescription medication as a way of handling her anxiety concerning her husband’s upcoming release from prison.”

The film also stars 21 Jump Street’s Channing Tatum, Academy Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as Jude Law, and should hit theaters some time in 2013.
