The 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival is wrapping up, but before it officially comes to a close tomorrow we’re filling you in on what went down in the French Riviera this past week. Here are 5 things that you should check out:

1. Ryan Gosling broke our hearts when he didn’t show up for the premiere of his film, Only God Forgives. The people of the world were denied The Gos in a tux all because he was in the middle of shooting a movie. Perhaps he dodged a bullet? Only God Forgives was reportedly booed after its screening.

2. A Psy impersonator went to a bunch of parties and fooled everyone with his spot-on “Gangnam” style.

3. The red carpet got seriously sexy this week. It seemed like there were more models than actors walking the carpets.

4. On that note, there were a few wardrobe malfunctions. Eva Longoria and Rosario Dawson had the ‘oops’ moments this time.

5. Jessica Chastain ruled the red carpet like a Queen. Her deep purple Givenchy was our favorite look of the week.

Hey girl, I can’t make it to Cannes.

That’s basically the gist of the letter Ryan Gosling had director Nicolas Refn read at the premiere of their Thai boxing drama, Only God Forgives. When the film — Gosling and Refn’s second collaboration, following 2011′s rave-reviewed Drive — hit the silver screen at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, Gosling’s baby blues were sadly no where in sight.

“I can’t believe that I’m not in Cannes with you,” Gosling wrote, apologizing for his agonizing absence from the famed fest. “I was hoping to be coming but I am in the third week of shooting my movie. I miss you all.”

“Nicolas, my friend, we really are the same, simply in different worlds and I am sending you good vibrations. I’m with you all,” continued the note, leaving Gos lovers everywhere wishing they were on the receiving end of those “good vibrations.”

After announcing he’s taking a break from acting (tear), Gosling, 32, has taken this talents behind the camera. Earlier this month, he began production on his directorial debut, How To Catch A Monster, a fantasy-thriller — which he penned himself — starring The Host’s Saoirse Ronan, Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks and Gos’ real-life leading lady, Eva Mendes.

His helm kept him from soaking up the Cannes spotlight for the second time in three years — he last popped by the French fest for Drive. Gosling’s absence leaves a hole — about the size of his bulging bicesp, we’d imagine — in Only God Forgive‘s publicity push ahead of its nationwide release on July 19.

But more importantly, there’s a hole in our hearts: This means there will be no snaps of a suited-up Gos on the Croisette for us fans to drool over. How will we make it through? We’ll have to wait for some more of this.

It’s that time of the week again when the celebrity weeklies hit the newsstands. To separate what’s real and rumor, we turned to our friends at Gossip Cop for the 411 on this week’s most controversial stories.

Kourtney Kardashian recently told Scott Disick their son Mason isn’t really his, reveals Star. Eva Mendes is “hot” for Larry David, and it’s making Ryan Gosling furious, says the National Enquirer. Dear Canada: why’d you have to go and make things so “Complicated?”

On Thursday, Hello! Canada unveiled its list of the 50 Most Beautiful Stars, and sitting at the very top is Avril Lavigne, aka Mrs. Chad Kroeger to-be, aka. the same musician who says she has a song about Hello Kitty on her next album.

“She’s gorgeous,” the publication’s EIC Alison Eastwood said [via The Star]. “I’m most excited that she’s wearing an outfit that isn’t black on the cover.”

Eastwood also added that in making the list, Hello! searched for not just “celebrities genetically blessed, but ones who are also really hot in 2013. It’s not entirely scientific.”

According to the list, Canada’s equivalent of Gwyneth Paltrow beat out other beautiful products from the North: Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, Rachel McAdams, Hannah Simone, Emily VanCamp and model Jessica Stam.

Scientific proof aside, Lavigne’s “hot” year — which includes a wedding to Kroeger and the release of her fifth studio album — is, in this Canadian’s opinion, second to say, Gosling’s year.

The actor already has one critically acclaimed film out (The Place Beyond The Pines), is set to knock our teeth out with July’s Only God Forgives and is going behind the camera for the first time. Just look at how hard he works on his own set.

Meanwhile, the other Ryan, is one of the voices behind one of the year’s biggest animated films (The Croods), has a huge action film coming out this June (R.I.P.D.) and is happily enjoying his first year of marriage to fellow beautiful person Blake Lively.

McAdams has three films out this year, including the latest Terrence Malick spectacle To the Wonder, opposite Ben Affleck. The 34-year-old actress’ next project will be alongside beautiful Americans Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone in a film directed by Cameron Crowe.

Ryan Gosling may be behind the camera on this project, but that won’t stop Gosling fans everywhere from enjoying the latest photos to come from the Detroit set.

On Thursday, the 32-year-old was spotted flaunting his biceps — OK, he was moving boxes and other equipment — on the set of How To Catch A Monster.

The fantasy/thriller, starring The Host’s Saoirse Ronan, Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes, will mark Gosling’s directorial debut, based on a script written by the Gos himself.

According to a press release from last summer, How To Catch A Monster combines elements of fantasy noir and suspense into a modern day fairytale. A “vanishing city” serves as a backdrop while a single mother is swept into a dark underworld while her teenage son runs into his own troubles.

Gosling can next be seen in the Nicolas Winding Refn picture Only God Forgives, out in July.

If anyone can get away with sneaking in a few giggles during a serious lesson from his director, it’s Ryan Gosling.

In this behind-the-scenes clip from Gosling’s next picture, Only God Forgives, the Canadian actor listens closely as Nicholas Winding Refn compares violence to sex.

“It’s all about the buildup, it’s like the climax itself . . . to make it dirty, you need interesting, never-seen-before violence,” says Refn, who also directed Gosling in 2011′s Drive.

Only God Forgives will screen at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival later this month before getting a nationwide release on July 19.

In other Gosling news, the 32-year-old began production on his directorial debut, How To Catch A Monster, on Thursday. The film stars Christina Hendricks and Gosling’s real life leading lady Eva Mendes.

Now that the heartthrob is taking a break from acting (cue tears), he’s stepping behind the camera for his directorial debut of How To Catch A Monster.

The film is being shot in Detroit, Mich. with extras casting director Ryan Hill putting out the word to all locals that “mooning” Gosling could be in their fortuitous future.

Hill writes on his Facebook page:

The movie, also written by Gosling, is scheduled to start filming May 6 with extras being paid $100 a day (not too shabby for getting a glimpse of Gosling all in a day’s work.)

The gritty movie is also looking for a “curvy/plus-size female dancer or two willing to be partially nude/topless” and people for a mosh pit scene.

Starring The Host’s Saoirse Ronan, Christina Hendricks and Gosling’s lady love Eva Mendes, How to Catch a Monster is described as a fantasy noir, suspense and modern day fairytale about a vanishing city where a single mother swept into a dark fantasy underworld, while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.

Sounds like a film we want to see!

Selena Gomez was a busy bee on Wednesday, making multiple radio show appearances to chat about her upcoming album, her new single “Come & Get It” and life in general.

During a 20-plus minute interview with Elvis Duran and his Morning Show crew, the singer and actress opened up the need to keep things private.

“I think I’ve actually given enough of myself, if that makes sense. I feel within my music and even how I handle myself in interviews, people think they know, but they really actually don’t,” Gomez said.

“When it comes to my music, I did record a song on the album that’s obviously going to be about the subject that I went through because I do think I should acknowledge it as well, but it’s beautiful,” she added, referring to her breakup with Justin Bieber.

The rest of the album, according to Gomez, is about “the place” she’s been in since entering the single life.

“I’m in my twenties, so I wanna have fun. I wanna enjoy my life and not have to worry about every little thing, and each of the tracks on the album kind of have a reflection of just letting loose and being in the moment. It’s still gonna keep them guessing I think,” she said of her fans and critics alike.

On the lighter side of things, Gomez revealed to Duran during an interview for Entertainment Tonight that she has her eyes set on another Canadian talent. (Before the rumor mill starts up again — it’s just a friendly crush).

“Ryan Gosling is such a given, he’s super cute,” she gushed of her celebrity crush. “I have not met him yet. I’ve seen him on an airplane . . . I freaked out so I didn’t even, I don’t even think he saw me so, but that one.”

Next up for Gomez: the release of her yet untitled studio album, and a supporting tour. The Stars Dance Tour is set to kick off Aug. 14 in Vancouver, Canada.

Ryan Gosling has a face most men would die for and women dream about.

But in his new movie, Only God Forgives those perfect features have been smashed beyond recognition.

Skilled make-up artists have made the 32-year-old star unrecognizable by covering his face with swollen bruises and cuts while grafting-on what looks like a prosthetic nose.

In Only God Forgives, the star portrays ex-boxer-turned-gangster Julian, who fights a Bangkok police lieutenant to avenge the death of his brother.

Kristin Scott Thomas plays the mobster’s mother Jenna, who forces him to find and kill the person responsible for his sibling’s death.

The crime thriller, which was shot on location in Thailand, was written and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.

The talented director previously worked with Gosling on Drive – Only God Forgives is scheduled for release in March 2013.

Gosling can currently be seen in The Place Beyond The Pines with his real life girlfrend Eva Mendes.

She’s not the only celebrity to own up to her obsession with the actor. The Frisky has 12 celebs who have confessed their love for Gosling.

Justin Timberlake may not be the only Mouseketeer to have kissed Britney Spears.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Ryan Gosling — who appeared alongside the two popstars on Disney Channel’s Micky Mouse Club when he was 12 — hinted that he may have also planted one on the “I Wanna Go” songstress back when they were kids.

“Britney was a sweetheart,” the 32-year-old told the publication. “She lived right above me, the girl next door. The little girl I used to play basketball and spin the bottle with.”

But kissing games aren’t the only fond memories RyGos — who’s now dating actress Eva Mendes – has of the singer. The Place Beyond the Pines actor admitted in the past that he was also the one who taught Spears about sex.

“I was just telling them what I’d heard about sex, you know, positions and stuff,” he told UK’s Heatworld in 2008. “Disney had a meeting with me, and they were like, ‘You’re not Disney material. We’re gonna kick you off the show if you say anything sexual again.’”

“I’m f***ng 12! All I care about is sex! How can I not talk about it? I don’t know what they expected,” he added.

Um, so is Spears is the luckiest girl in the world or is she the luckiest girl in the world? “She’s so lucky, she’s a star,” indeed.

Ryan Cabrera came clean last week about his brewing bromance with Ryan Gosling (remember the now infamous tattoo?!). But he owes more than just a cool conversation starter to the big-screen heartthrob.

Gosling is helping Cabrera score with the ladies.

“Listen, ladies love the Gos,” Cabrera told Celebuzz. “So there is nothing else to say about that. So I am not mad.”

And forget bang ‘em up action flicks, this singer is Notebook fan.

“I am actually a really big Gosling fan,” he added. “It’s kind of an homage, at this point you gotta flaunt it. My friend knew that [I was a fan], so it was really funny.”

And the bromance is only blossoming further. Even his friend has ink of the hunk’s mug.

“We show them off at the pool,” said Cabrera, who’s in the studio recording his fourth album and gearing up to go on tour May 1.

So is the 30-year-old starting a tattoo trend here?

Well, he admits he would have never (we repeat, never) gotten the body art three months ago without being blindfolded in a little game of tattoo roulette the singer and his BFF like to play.

“I would never do something like that on my own,” Cabrera said. “We just kind of stepped it up a notch on this round.”

And despite his heavily inked up appearance, there are rules to follow.

“It can’t be religious and it can’t be tribal, and it had to be off the wall,” said Cabrera. “It’s only for the legs though. Like my ankle I don’t really care about.”

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first famous face Cabrera has on his body — but it’s the only one he hasn’t actually taken seriously. Those he saves for the prime sections of his body where you’ll find Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison.

“I’ve never, ever wanted anyone’s face on me other than The Beatles.”

And even then, he’s still shy.

“I sat next to Paul McCartney at a [Led] Zeppelin show in London, and I have this huge Paul McCartney tattoo on my arm and I folded down my sleeves. I was like, ‘I don’t want him to see that I am a big crazy fan!’”

But he’d swallow his pride for an in-person show-and-tell with Gosling.

“The first thing I would do is show him!” he said. “He would probably think it’s hilarious.”
