It’s official: Barack Obama is back for four more years in the White House.

With approximately 600,000 people assembled on the National Mall and millions more watching worldwide, Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were sworn in front of the Capitol in Washington, D.C., shortly before noon on Monday, a date on which the nation honors Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. .

The swearing-in was solely ceremonial, following their formal, constitutionally-prescribed oath of office in the privacy of the White House residence Sunday. But the commemoration packed much star-powered celebration.

Before Obama preaching about America’s founding principles in his second Inaugural Address, James Taylor sang “America the Beautiful” and American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson belted out ”My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” But it was Beyoncé— and her soaring rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner — that garnered the biggest wave of cheers from the the Washington crowd.

And the applause continued on Twitter, as the social media site lit up with 1.1 million tweets during the ceremony (a lot more online chatter than Obama’s first inauguration, which tallied just 82,000 tweets).

A Boston-based charity has dropped comedienne and Kabbalah devotee Sandra Bernhard from a fundraising event due to jokes she made about vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin being gang-raped.

The AP reports that Rosie’s Place publicity director Leemarie Mosca says that Bernhard’s recent wish for Palin to be “gang-raped” by “my big black brothers” doesn’t jive with the women’s shelter’s outlook.

“In light of our mission, we don’t think violence against women is a laughing matter,” she said.

Bernhard was scheduled to appear at “Funny Women…Serious Business” on October 16 before she was nixed from the roster.

Bernhard, who says she is “terribly upset” by the shelter’s decision, took to her website to explain her comment. She wrote that it had to do with “women, racism, freedom and the extreme views of Gov. Sarah Palin.”

“In no way am I making any sort of joke about crimes against women—quite the contrary. I’m speaking out about someone who doesn’t do enough to protect women,” Bernhard said.

Hmmm. Seems Bernhard’s mouth doesn’t just look big…

Madonna and her former best gal pal, comedienne/chanteuse Sandra Bernhard, were both photographed entering NYC’s Kabbalah Centre yesterday.

Madonna was accompanied by her adopted son David Banda, and Sandra was with her daughter Cicely. The Material Mom seems to have had a nap since her last time at the Kabbalah Centre.

Madge and Sandy were the Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson of the late ’80s (see clip below). There was a time when they were completely inseparable, and inspired a lot of “Are they lovers?” talk.

However, they had a falling out. Sandra (who is big on the Jewish mysticism) even mentioned how she found Madonna’s embrace of Kabbalah to be phony in later comedy routines.

Has Madonna softened since hitting 50? Perhaps they’ve buried the hatchet and will be wearing matching red string bracelets again in the future?

Hollywood was a-buzzin’ all week long, with Madonna’s marriage scandal, Michael Lohan’s secret love child and the second “delivery” of Angie’s twins.

With so much drama, the public (though not so much the paparazzi) may have forgotten to keep their eyes peeled for the everyday joys and pains of celebrity outfits

But no worries! Nothing in the realm of cute or half-cocked sneaks past the style monitors at Celebuzz.
