The inauguration festivities are in full swing, and for those of us tracking the First Lady’s fashion, one of the highly-anticipated fashion moments of Michelle Obama’s career is finally here.

After the lemon Isabella Toledo ensemble she wore on Inauguration Day in 2009, we could hardly wait to see what the First Lady wore this time around. And judging by Mrs. Obama’s inaugural outfits so far — and the stylish ensembles worn by first daughters Sasha and Malia — the Obama’s second term in the White House promises to be chic and color-coordinated.

While yellow may have won out at the 2009 inauguration,  the color theme for this year’s inauguration appears to be a palette of purples and blues.

After looking the picture of modern elegance in “it” hue cobalt at President Obama’s official swearing in on Sunday, Mrs. Obama stuck to a similar color scheme for Inauguration Day.

For her first appearance at St. John’s church this morning, the First Lady made a stylish statement in a dark blue printed Thom Browne coat and black pumps by inaugural fashion favorite J.Crew (recall the buzz over the J.Crew pieces the Obamas wore to the 2009 inauguration).

As practical as she is posh, Mrs. O used some smart styling tricks to jazz up her look before heading to the Capitol for President Obama’s swearing-in ceremony, cinching her coat with a jeweled J.Crew belt and swapping her pumps for black suede boots. Offering a chic contrast, Mrs. Obama’s berry leather gloves popped against her coat’s darker print.

Sticking to the same purple-blue palette as their mom, Sasha and Malia each donned different shades of purple to watch their father’s swearing-in on Sunday, and then reversed their purples for Inauguration Day, with Malia donning a magenta J.Crew coat and Sasha sporting a violet Kate Spade coat.

Does this mean the First Lady will be donning a purple or blue inaugural gown as well? It wouldn’t be her first time rocking either color for a formal affair — check out the inaugural-worthy gowns Mrs. Obama has worn over the past four years for an idea of what she might wear to this year’s fetes.

It’s official!

Barack Obama has officially kicked off his duties for a second term as the 44th President of the United States.

On Sunday, the 51-year-old was joined by his family — wife Michelle Obama (who was sporting new bangs) and their daughters Sasha and Malia — for the private swearing in, administered by Supreme Court Justice John Roberts.

Vice President Joe Biden was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor hours earlier at the Naval Observatory.

The formal gathering, which satisfied the Constitutional requirement that the swearing-in is held on Jan. 20 after every election, was a far cry from Monday’s highly anticipated public affair.

Some 800,000 people are expected to descend upon the National Mall on Monday for the president’s star-studded inauguration ceremony. Four years ago, an estimated 1.8 million people attended the president’s historic swearing-in.

As previously announced, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylorare all slated to perform for the president.

On Saturday, Katy Perry, Usher, Nick Cannon and cast members from Glee held a Kids’ Inaugural Concert at the Washington Convention Center for a crowd that included First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters.

Here’s to four more years . . . of Sasha and Malia Obama’s amazing outfits.

On Monday, the young fashionistas will join their father, President Barack Obama, as he officially gets sworn in at his second inauguration at the National Mall.

All fashion eyes will no doubt be on the first lady, Michelle Obama, and the outfits she will wear at the inauguration events, including the glamorous inaugural ball the following day.

The same eyes will also be on Sasha and Malia, 11 and 14, respectively.

Since their stylish J.Crew coats worn during the president’s first inauguration four years ago, the Obama girls have developed into their own individual styles.

Sasha, who was only seven years old when her father officially took office in 2009, has progressed from a sweet and fun look to a bold and preppy style, all while remaining within the boundaries of her pre-teen age.

Malia, on the other hand, has quickly taken after her mother’s style: classy, subtle and chic.

Over the years, the girls have donned nearly every shade of the rainbow, and have never been afraid to try on new fabrics, cuts or layers. They’re also not afraid to repeat outfits or accessories.

Sasha’s giant tote back adorned with a heart-shaped American flag has been spotted on numerous occasions. Her black-and-blue blazer, first worn at the 2011 turkey pardon ceremony at the White House, was spotted five months later at an Easter reading. It comes in red too.

And just like any other sibling groupings, Sasha has worn some hand-me-downs from her big sister. Last November, the younger Obama donned a Chris Benz gemstone green skirt to celebrate her father’s big election victory. Malia first wore the skirt nearly two years ago at a White House State Dinner.

As thousands gather at National Mall and in front of their televisions on Monday, get ready for new and familiar designer names, inauguration outfits and new trends.

A paparazzo who took photographs of the daughters of President Barack Obama walking along a Hawaiian beach last week made a big mistake — at least, in the eyes of the Oval Office.

Because as soon as the images of Sasha and Malia were sent out to news outlets around the world, the photographer received an official letter from the White House telling him to immediately stop their release, Celebuzz has exclusively learned.

Ironically, the man was waiting for pregnant Hollywood star Jessica Simpson to leave her Kailua Beach retreat in Honolulu County when the Presidential sisters, vacationing with their famous parents in an adjacent property since Dec. 21, came walking-by.

“After he took the photographs, agents from the United States Secret Service came over and asked him for identification,” according to a source who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Celebuzz has chosen not to name the photographer.

“They were nice enough to him and didn’t seize his camera equipment.

“But when he sent the photographs out via the agency’s wire, he received a letter, on a White House letterhead, requesting that the images not be released.”

The letter was from the White House Press Office, the source added.

“It stated that Sasha and Malia’s privacy should be maintained as they were on a private holiday,” the insider told Celebuzz.

“The letter said that other media had been respecting these requirements.”

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are known to be very protective of Malia, 14 and Sasha, 11, previously demanding that the media respect their privacy unless they are attending a public or pre-arranged event.

The Obamas returned to Washington on Sunday after their annual end-of-year visit to the President’s native state.

The family was staying at a 7000 sq ft rental home in the upscale Kailua area that boasts five bedrooms, a media room and a secluded lagoon style pool with tropical waterfalls and a spa.

The President — who spent eight years at Punahou School in Hawaii before he graduated — has his vacation disrupted just after Christmas when he was forced to return to the capital to help broker a solution on the fiscal cliff crisis.

He returned to Hawaii less than an hour after Congress and the White House resolved the fiscal cliff, at the eleventh hour.

Obama boarded Air Force One on Jan. 1 to return to his planned holiday vacation and later reunited with his wife and daughters, who have been vacationing there since just before Christmas.

The president began his family holiday — his first extended personal time outside of Washington since the presidential campaign.

The latest round up of style news is jam packed with new collaborations, television projects and shocking revelations from famous fashion forward faces.

Rihanna got more attention during her performance at the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show than most of the stunning supermodels. The singer’s ensembles were off the charts with sex appeal as she showed off her quirky-yet-couture style.

During her performance of “Diamonds,” Rihanna wore a pair of vintage Chanel pearl round sunglasses from Depuis 1924 that retail for a staggering $3,200. The rare vintage frames flawlessly matched the singer’s pearl choker and framed her beautiful face.

While Michelle Obama recycled a Michael Kors dress from 2008 for President Barack Obama’s victory speech on Tuesday, their daughters combined high street with blossoming American fashion designers for their outfits. Sasha Obama donned one of her mother’s favorite designers, a Chris Benz emerald skirt, with a Zara bow blouse and bright green J. Crew flats.

The designer item is an expensive departure from the head-to-toe J. Crew ensemble she wore four years earlier. Older sister Malia also sported a Zara top and J. Crew flats but paired her look with an ASOS blue full skirt. [People Style Watch]

The show will be similar to American’s Next Top Model, where each mentor coaches a group of aspiring models through photo shoots and contests. The Face is set to air on Oxygen in February 2013. The latest celebrity collaboration is a match made in fashion heaven. Singer M.I.A, who is known for her quirky style, is working on an upcoming project with Versace. The singer confirmed reports to Spin magazine that she and the fashion house were working together on a collection. No details on when the collaboration is slated to hit, but this explains the singer’s sudden barrage of vintage Versace print-laden outfits. [Style Bistro]

President Barack Obama sat down with David Letterman on the Late Show Tuesday night to discuss everything from economic policy to the crisis in Libya and even Hannah Montana.

Of course, it didn’t take long for Letterman to ask the president about his opponent’s recently unearthed “secret video” – in which Mitt Romney claims his job is “not to worry about” the 47 percent of Americans who are “dependent upon government.”

Obama then recalled Election Night back in 2008, when he told the 47 percent of voters who had pulled the lever for John McCain, “Even though you didn’t vote for me, I hear your voices, and I’m going to work as hard as I can to be your president.”

“When I meet Republicans as I’m traveling around the country,” he continued, “they are hard-working, family people who care deeply about this country. My expectation is, if you want to be president, you have to work for everybody, not just for some.”

The president then took on Romney’s claims head-on.

“I promise you, there are not a lot of people out there who think they’re victims. There are not a lot of people out there who think they’re entitled to something.”

When asked about his economic policy, the president reiterated a talking point in former president Bill Clinton’s Democratic National Convention speech: “Arithmetic.”

Obama explained how he hopes to reduce the national debt by cutting government programs that aren’t working and by asking the wealthy to give back a little more — and he thinks the American people will be onboard with the plan.

“The American people are a lot more thoughtful, decent, and full of common sense than we’ve seen out of Washington over the last several years,” said Obama.

The conversation then turned to the turmoil in Libya. In light of the recent tragedy — which claimed the lives of four Americans, including ambassador Chris Stevens – the president explained how the U.S. presence in Muslim nations like Libya is still needed.

“We can wind down our military activities in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, but we have to remain engaged because whether we like it or not, America remains the one indispensable nation,” he said. And even countries that criticize us end up looking to us for leadership, because without our presence, without our involvement and our engagement, things would be an awful lot worse.”

Letterman managed to introduce some lighthearted topics during the interview, as he asked Obama about his girls, Sasha and Malia. 

The president recalled that his daughters took time before their dad’s anticipated Democratic National Convention speech to explain how his big moment was similar to the climactic scene from the Hannah Montana movie.

Miley Cyrus may heading for the White House—and no, not as the head of the Department of Tweener Affairs.

The Insider reports that Cyrus, 16, has been invited to screen Hannah Montana: The Movie, for first daughters Sasha and Malia Obama at their new Pennsylvania Avenue home.

Cyrus reveals that  the girls, 7 and 10, extended the invite to Cyrus “when I was doing the inauguration.” (Cyrus performed at the Kids’ Inaugural Concert on January 19, along with the Jonas Brothers.) “They said they want me to come and show them my new movie,” Cyrus says. “I would love it. I’m stoked!”

Hannah Montana: The Movie will hit big screens across America on April 10, but being a member of the First Family has its perks—such as getting a sneak preview of what will surely be the hottest kids’ movie of the year. With the star of the movie in attendance.

Maybe while Cyrus is there, she can hit up Sasha and Malia’s dad for a Presidential pardon over the whole Internet photo scandal she recently caused.

Being the daughters of the President of the United States has its privileges. Just ask Sasha and Malia Obama, the children of newly installed Chief Executive Barack Obama.

First Sasha and Malia, 7 and 10 respectively, were treated to a late-night visit from chaste musical combo the Jonas Brothers. Now the girls have been invited onto the Harry Potter set by the film series’ star wizard, Daniel Radcliffe.

Characterizing President Obama as “everything the rest of the world liked about America and now likes again,” the 19-year-old actor tells the Daily Beast, “I’d like to take this opportunity to issue a public invitation to the Obamas that if their daughters would like a private tour of the Harry Potter set, I would be honored to be their personal tour guide.”

Smart move; Daniel. Because offering the family free tickets to your hit Broadway show Equus would have been totally inappropriate.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part I, the first installment of the two-part finale for the film series, is currently filming and is scheduled for release in 2010.

The second installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part II, is in pre-production and will hit theaters in 2011.

After partying with the youngsters and musicians at the Youth Inaugural Ball last night, President Barack Obama, 47, and Michelle Obama, 45, brought a bit of youthful surprise back to the White House for their daughters.

ABC News reports that a scavenger hunt was set up for Sasha and Malia Obama, 7 and 10 respectively, to get the girls acquainted with their new digs.

At the end of the fun and games, the girls opened a door to discover the Jonas Brothers waiting behind it!

Geez, when your dad is the Prez, all kinds of cool things happen!

Maybe Nick Jonas, 16, felt like he needed a rematch after getting his butt whooped by the First Tweens at a ping pong game.

The youngest of the Jonas trio has been feeling bold lately, after all; he gave his ex Miley Cyrus a hug on stage at the Kids Inaugural Ball Monday night.

He’s only taking after older bro Joe, 19, who held it together during a potentially awkward run-in with his own ex, Taylor Swift, on New Year’s Eve.

Anyway, those Jonas kids seem to be maturing into actual dudes.  Barack should be sure to keep a watchful chaperone on his daughters.
