Just 19 days after its first theatrical release, the Disney flick reached another milestone by raking in $1 billion globally — making it the first time to reach nine digits in its second domestic weekend. The film had already previously broke the mold by beating out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘s top spot for the biggest opening of all time.

What does this new record-breaking number entail?

For one, The Avengers will be back for more as studio head Bob Iger recently announced a sequel to the blockbuster. The follow-up will start filming after the release of the third Iron Man movie and Thor sequel in 2013 and Captain America‘s newest installment in 2014.

The Avengers now joins Avatar, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as the selected few who has hit has hit the billion dollar mark globally.

Studio super boss Bob Iger announced on Tuesday that a second movie is officially on the books.

However, the team won’t be able to assemble any time soon:

Iger told The Hollywood Reporter that a third Iron Man movie and a Thor sequel are both scheduled for 2013. A follow-up to Captain America is in the works for 2014. He gave no timeline for The Avengers sequel.

The Avengers reportedly raked in a whopping $200.3 million since its Friday debut. This record-breaking number Hulk smashed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2‘s previous record of a $169.1 million opening weekend at the US box office.

What other movies has it knocked out?

The Marvel flick’s big weekend also surpassed The Dark Knight‘s $158.4 million opening and recent inductee The Hunger Games‘ $152.5 million debut. Both flicks now sit at third and fourth place respectively for the biggest opening weekend in history.

The Avengers, starring Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Evans, grossed a cool $18.7 million in midnight screenings alone before hitting gold with a $80.5 million Friday and $69.7 million Saturday.

The film is projected to make another $50.1 million on Sunday.

Overall, the movie grossed an estimated $641.8 million worldwide. It also broke records for the biggest opening weekend in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, Bolivia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

The film’s success comes a month after Marvel and Disney announced a sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, which will be released April 4, 2014. A sequel to last summer’s Thor is scheduled for release November 15, 2013, while the third installment of the hit Iron Man series will arrive hit theaters May 3, 2013.

For now, many look to the Christopher Nolan-helmed The Dark Knight Rises as the next contender for box office domination. The film, based on DC Comics successful Batman series, is due out July 20.

Avengers kicks off the summer movie series today so check out our first bikini blockbuster babe, ScarJo, and her cast mates in the action sequence below:

The gorgeous actress received a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame on Wednesday, and was joined by her Avengers co-star Jeremy Renner. Mixing old Hollywood glam and modern style, she was sporting a waved up ‘do and a very trendy Preen daisy top and checkered skirt.

Being bestowed with this honor might seem a little premature at the age of 27, but let’s not forget — ScarJo has been gracing the big screen since she was only 10 years old!

Scarlett made her big screen debut in 1994′s North, alongside Elijah Wood. Then in 1998, she starred in The Horse Whisperer, following that up with 2001′s Ghost World. Some other notable works of Scarlett’s include the critically acclaimed Lost in Translation, (2003), Match Point (2004), and A Love Song For Bobby Long (2004), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.

That’s quite an impressive resume for someone her age!

The Avengers actress recalls that it was during a European road trip that the couple took following Reynolds, 35, filming Green Lantern that Scarlett started to feel uneasy in the marriage. In Dec. 2010, the couple announced they were divorcing. “It was nice, but at the same time, I was like, ‘What am I going to do with myself?’” ScarJo, 27, admitted of the road trip, adding that she was having a “hard time, I was feeling very out of my own skin.”

Ryan has since started dating his Green Lantern costar Blake Lively, 24, and though Scarlett insists that the split was “comically amicable” and that her marriage was “a beautiful thing,” she says in the same interview that the divorce process was “horrible.”

“Of course it’s horrible. It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn’t work out. … This was something I never thought I would be doing. And there’s no way to navigate it. Nobody can give you the right answer. It’s never anything you want to hear. It’s a very lonely thing. It’s like the loneliest thing you’ll ever do, in some way.”

So is she over it? “I don’t feel on the other side of it completely, but it gets better,” she confessed to the magazine. “It’s still there. More than anything, it’s just that not having your buddy around all the time is weird.”

Following her breakup from Ryan, photos emerged of Scarlett canoodling with 51-year-old actor Sean Penn, a man 24 years her senior. She spoke on what looked to be a rebound relationship, calling Sean a “remarkable person,” and recalling to Vogue, “We spent time together, yeah. I never put a title on it, really, but we were seeing each other.”

Johansson and Naylor first went public when they were spotted holding hands out in New York City in late January. A source close to the couple told People that Scarlett has been seeing Nate for five months now. A rep for the actress has yet to confirm these claims. 

Whatever the case may be, it looks to us like the bodacious blonde is finding success both off and onscreen! Between her new man and work, things are turning up for the starlet. A teaser for The Avengers recently debuted at the Super Bowl and it got us even more excited for the film’s release in May! Check it out below.

The actress co-hosted a fashion-themed fundraiser for Barack Obama‘s re-election in New York with Vogue top dog Anna Wintour called Runway to Win — a collection of designer goods being sold to raise money for the campaign. Although ScarJo says “it won’t be easy,” she believes there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Celebuzz was front and center at the event, where The Avengers star delivered this moving speech:
