Orphans, the Broadway play that resulted in a testy email exchange between Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf and LaBeouf’s subsequent departure, will close on May 19 after just 27 previews and 37 regular performances, producers confirmed Monday.

Poor box office numbers are to blame for the show’s early curtain call, according to The New York Times. It was originally scheduled to run through June 30.

Orphans, about two brothers who hold a gangster hostage in Philadelphia, ultimately became more famous for its backstage drama after LaBeouf abruptly left the play just one week into rehearsals, citing creative differences. During the fallout, LaBeouf tweeted an email exchange between himself and Baldwin implying they, uh, didn’t get along.

He was later replaced by actor Ben Foster.

Ironically, the one person who survived the fallout in tact was Tom Sturridge, who was the only castmember from Orphans to receive a Tony nomination last week.

In August, the star explained on Chelsea Lately how he nabbed the lead role in Lars von Trier‘s upcoming Nymphomaniac by saying, “I sent him videotapes of me and my girlfriend having sex and that’s how I got the job.”

But, as the saying goes, there’s “no such thing as bad publicity” and this certainly rings true for LaBeouf who continues to receive top billing in major films alongside acclaimed veteran actors like Robert Redford, Sam Elliot, Michael Douglas and Guy Pearce.

Eager to put the larger-than-life Transformers film franchise behind him, the actor told the Associate Press, “I’m done. I’m sure they’ll make more of them, it’s still a very hot franchise, there’s still value in it…I just don’t know if I have anything to contribute.”

Picture Perfect? A solid transfer faithfully preserves the rustic locations as well as the urban ones.

What Else Is There? An audio commentary, deleted scenes and a 21-minute featurette examines the conception of the film, and further explores the world it creates.

How Badly Do I Want It? Mixed reactions from critics makes this a rental primarily, but if you’re a Chastain completist like we are, then it’s a must-have.

Men in Black 3 (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)

The One-Liner: Director Barry Sonnenfeld reunites with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones (and adds a younger Tommy Lee Jones, played by Josh Brolin) for an overdue third installment in this fun sci-fi series.

Picture Perfect? Although the 2D picture is more solid and consistent than the 3D, both are mostly successful in creating a solid visual landscape that faithfully replicates the theatrical experience.

What Else Is There? An interactive game offers a few seconds of entertainment, but a collection of featurettes and other extras delves into the process of bring MiB’s world to life.

How Badly Do I Want It? If you’re a fan of the first two films (or even just the first), this is well worth checking out as a rental, but Men in Black 3 doesn’t seem like a movie you’ll want to revisit often if it was in your library.

Paranorman (Universal Studios Home Entertainment)

The One-Liner: A creepy but charming animated feature that evokes Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas heyday.

Picture Perfect? Unsurprisingly, the film is a visual delight, and the Blu-ray transfer makes it absolutely shine, even when its characters are shrouded in the shadows.

What Else Is There? Some 41 minutes of featurettes offers an inside look at the making of the film, while a commentary track and a U-Control feature ties all of the extras together for one cohesive and complementary viewing experience.

How Badly Do I Want It? If you’re an animation fan, this film is probably a must-own, but it’s a solidly entertaining film that’s absolutely worth a rental, especially if you’re a Burton fan.

Sparkle (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)

The One-Liner: This remake offers audiences their last look at the late Whitney Houston as Jordin Sparks reinvents this song-filled film for a modern audience.

Picture Perfect? Sony does a great job of reproducing the film’s digital photography on home video, beautifully preserving the skin tones and visual textures of its musical backdrop.

What Else Is There? A 20-minute tribute to Houston anchors the extras-filled disc, which also comes with a commentary track, making-of featurettes and some extended/additional performances.

How Badly Do I Want It? Although it certainly doesn’t compare cinematically to the original, seeing Houston’s final film is certainly worth the price of admission.

Step Up Revolution (Lionsgate)

The One-Liner: Director Scott Speer continues the Step Up series in fine form with this terrific, brightly-colored cornucopia of modern dance; while hardly revolutionary in its storytelling, it’s got some of the best choreography in recent memory.

Picture Perfect? Particularly in 3D, Step Up Revolution looks stunning, offering spectacular clarity even as Speer’s camera immerses itself in the action.

What Else Is There? A commentary track, four featurettes and a breakout feature including all of the film’s flash mob sequences expand the context of the dancing in the film and showcase its incredible set pieces.

How Badly Do I Want It? If you’re a fan at all of its predecessors, this is a must-own, but it’s engaging enough to be a pleasant night even if you’re just looking for some fun.

The landlord of The Hobgoblin pub in London where Shia LaBeouf got into a scuffle over the weekend has no hard feelings and hopes the actor comes back soon.

The 26-year-old Transformers star got involved in a scrap with an over-eager fan at the popular drinking spot in the New Cross area of the British capital after he went drinking with his Nymphomaniac co-star Mia Goth, 19.

“It was just a minor scrap and Shia is not banned from The Hobgoblin — we all hope he comes back for a quiet pint soon,” landlord Mark Harris told Celebuzz.

Harris even had to help the star get into a nearby taxi before things got out of hand.

“He was having a good time with Mia and he was happily posing for photographs and signing autographs when this guy knocked off his baseball cap and they got involved in some pushing and shoving. But the police were never called or anything like that,” he added.

“Shia actually got his baseball cap back and he was just a little frustrated that’s all.

“I actually helped Shia across the road and into a taxi,” Harris said. “He was a little drunk, but he was not looking to fight anyone or cause trouble.

“Mia’s mother Rachel is a regular here and she lives close-by and there have never been any problems with her family. We have had Princess Eugenie and Eddie Izzard visit The Hobgoblin before, so, we are used to having celebrities drop-in.”

The multi-millionaire actor is no stranger to trouble. In 2011, he got into a squabble with patrons at Mad Bull’s Tavern in Sherman Oaks, Calif. and last year he was caught on video getting involved in a fight outside a bar in Vancouver, Canada.

Actor Shia LaBeouf was involved in a minor bar scuffle in South London after a patron stole his hat and refused to give it back.

The incident took place at the student pub Hobgoblin, where LaBeouf, 26, had spent several hours posing for photos with fans and drinking with his Nymphomaniac costar Mia Goth prior to the incident.

“The scrap all started when this guy took his hat. I think he was just joking, but Shia didn’t like it,” an eyewitness told The Sun.

“The guy just took it off him and wouldn’t give it back,” the person added. “He tried to get it back and they ended up tussling. It was handbags really.”

The former child star reportedly left in a taxi following the incident.

LaBeouf signed up for Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac, about a woman’s sexual history, in August. That same month, he implied the sex scenes filmed for the movie would be real.

“It is Lars von Trier, making a movie about what he’s making. For instance, there’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we’re doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening,” he said.

A long-in-the-tooth franchise found its way to the top of the box office even as a highly-anticipated, original work broke records in limited release.

The fifth installment in director Paul W.S. Anderson’s indefatigable zombie-action series, Resident Evil: Retribution, earned the Number One spot with a modest $21.1 million – and average of just over $7,000 per screen.

Director Paul Thomas Anderson, on the other hand, brought in a record-breaking $147,262 on each of only five screens, for a total of $736,311 during The Master’s limited-release opening weekend.

What else brought people to theaters over the weekend?

Although Andrew Stanton’s first live-action effort, John Carter, failed to attract moviegoers, the filmmaker’s newly-enhanced Finding Nemo 3D brought in some $17.5 million in receipts, landing at Number Two behind Resident Evil.

After two weeks at Number One, The Possession tumbled to Number Three with a haul of $5.8 million. With a reported budget of $14 million, the film has performed well, earning more than $41 million in just three weeks.

Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy’s Lawless came in at Number Four, earning $4.3 million for a cumulative haul of $30.2 million.

And the oddball animated movie ParaNorman earned $3.039 million, which was just enough more than The Expendables 2’s $3.03 million, to claim the Number Five spot.

Although The Master’s weekend gross set a new bar for per-screen average, the film opened at Number 18. But as the critically-acclaimed drama, which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, expands to other cities and more theaters in the coming weeks, it should be interesting to see how the film performs with mainstream moviegoers.

Shia LaBeouf is starting a new — and very controversial — chapter in his career.

The former Disney star not only admitted to dropping acid in an upcoming film, but fans were shocked to learn that the man formally known as Louis Stevens will also perform unsimulated sex in Lars von Trier’s next project, Nymphomaniac.

However, when late night host Chelsea Handler prodded the 26-year-old actor about the rumors of this apparent live sex scene, LaBeouf played it cool.

LeBeouf admitted he’s not 100 percent sure what will happen in Von Trier’s new flick, but anything is possible. “I don’t know what it’s gonna be until I get out there,” he revealed on Chelsea Lately. “I know he’s a very dangerous director and I know we’re trying to do something different.”

Asked if he had to audition for the part, he jokingly replied, ”I sent videotapes of me and my girlfriend having sex and that’s how I got the job.”

After making news this weekend regarding his new role in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomanic and performing “real” sex, Shia LaBeouf was on Good Morning America Monday to discuss his new movie Lawless.

The film, which will be released August 28, is set in prohibition-era Virginia and focuses on the bootlegging operation the three Bondurant brothers are running. LaBeouf plays Jack Bondurant in the film which also stars Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Jason Clark.

What did the actor have to say about the flick?

“It was a hard movie to make,” said LaBeouf about the film which has taken two years to come to screens. “It’s not your conventional movie at all. It’s got a lot of layers. It’s a hard movie to pitch. You got to take risk as a studio. You got to take a risk to make a movie like this.”

Given this fact, the actor was extremely committed to being in the movie “especially because I was coming out of real studio fare. I was like a studio kid for a long time. You have friends there who you explain what your next steps are going to be and they look at you like ‘I don’t know.’”

The actor emphasized, “It wasn’t a conventional anything. Cast, story, director. His [John Hillcoat] last movies weren’t big money movies. You’re going to do a period movie. It’s quite expensive.”

He likens his character in Lawless to a comic book hero, indicating that these men were the first real people fighting for the every day man. “They were the Walt Whitmans with guns. They were the first rock stars.”

Recently, LaBeouf made comments to The Hollywood Reporter slamming the studio systems, saying, “[They] give you the money, then get on a plane and come to the set and stick a finger up your a** and chase you around for five months.”

As such, the Transformers star is now sticking to indie films. He can be seen next in the Robert Redford directed, The Company You Keep, which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Nymphomanic will begin shooting shortly thereafter.

When it comes to Shia LaBeouf, nothing is off limits — including the explicit scenes in his new film, Nymphomaniac.

According to the Lawless actor, he’s willing to do whatever controversial director Lars von Trier asks of him, even if it means actually having sex on camera.

“There’s a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says, we’re all doing it for real,” LaBeouf reveals during an interview with MTV. “And everything that is illegal, we’ll shoot in blurred images, but other than that, everything is happening.”

How does he feel about the project?

“[Von Trier] is very dangerous, you know. He’s like the most dangerous dude that I’ve ever showed up for,” he says. “I’m terrified. I’m so terrified.”

“It’s going to be a wild movie,” he adds, smirking.

Von Trier is already known for pushing boundaries with his 2009′s Antichrist, which graphically depicts scenes of sex, masturbation and circumcision.

The famed filmmaker also made headlines when he infamously said that he “sympathize” with Adolf Hitler and professed to being a Nazi during a conference at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

However, LaBeouf isn’t without shocking moments of his own.

Fassbender: “Well, it was flaccid most of the time.”

Featuring interpretive dance, drawing on nude bodies, mild violence and some truly tripped out imagery, the video is both beautiful and bizarre. The Transformers star even goes full frontal in the video, directed for the Icelandic band by Alma Har’el.

According to the press release, the video is meant to portray “a man and woman locked in a never-ending cycle of addiction and desire.”

“We really had no idea what to expect from Alma,” bassist Georg Holm said in a press release.

“Originally she was going to film us on super 8 in Iceland all playing the piano lines from the song, but then she rang and said she’d met Shia LaBeouf and they’d changed the idea. That was the last we heard of the concept and she told us nothing about what was going on.”

“At first I didn’t know what to make of the video, because it is so full of ideas and confusion. But now I completely love it,” he added.

Out with the old, and in with the new(ish)!

In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that there is indeed a fourth film in the works, with a projected release date of summer 2014. Also, Michael Bay (who helmed the other three movies) is on board to direct. While the Transfomers franchise launched both Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox into superstardom, it is highly unlikely they will be back for this one, as di Bonaventura referred to the as-yet-untitled film as a “reboot.”

So, have they started looking for Shia’s replacement?

Not exactly. di Bonaventura said they need a story first.

“You can’t pick characters if you don’t have a story.”

Makes sense to us!
