Think about what it was like to be a kid. Think really hard. Remember it? Now think about how you would have felt if Spider-Man had just randomly showed up to play basketball with you. That’s how Andrew Garfield just made these kids feel.

This video, which popped up online last Friday, was shot in Chinatown in New York City, where Garfield was filming scenes for the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Presumably, while on break, Garfield decided to give these kids the pick-up game of their lives while his on and off screen girlfriend Emma Stone looked on. He even let them win.

Talk about a true superhero! Stan “The Man” Lee, the living legend, turns 90 on Friday.

From creating a majority of our favorite comic book characters of the Marvel Universe — do Spiderman and the Hulk ring a bell? — to changing the face of comics forever, Lee’s a major force to be reckoned with…and is still going strong nine decades later.

Besides making the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and Thor household names with his thrilling plots, Lee also added a twist of humanity to each of his characters, giving them emotions and an essential flaw, and, thus, going against the traditional comic book standards.

Forever young at heart, Lee spearheaded the expansion of Marvel Comics, taking the small publishing company and turning it into the large multimedia corporation it is today.  Not to mention he’s had cameos in more superhero films than anybody else—that’s what you get for making the characters come to life.

The word around Sesame Street these days is that those other wool-skinned cuties, The Muppets, have found a leading man for their highly anticipated sequel. It looks like Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fonzie and the gang will be teaming up with comedian Ricky Gervais for their next adventure. While it might seem to be an odd choice at first, the typically cynical curmudgeon is perhaps the perfect person to be transformed by the Muppets’ infectious charm. Recent news also saw Modern Family’s Ty Burrell cast in the role of an Interpol inspector, hinting that the film might have an international arc. [The Hollywood Reporter]

From puppets to something more expendable, famous martial artist and all-around likable guy Jackie Chan is rumored to be joining the cast of The Expendables 3.

Originally scheduled to appear in the second film in Sylvester Stallone’s star-studded action franchise, Chan bowed out due to scheduling conflicts. When it came time to start planning a third chaster – which has since announced Nicolas Cage as the presumptive villain – Chan agreed to return on the condition that there be a “buddy” element to the high-octane actioner. We suppose that Chan will never quite outlive his Rush Hour days. [Cinema.com]

In the latest example of Hollywood remaking properties that audiences are too damn young to remember in the first place, Vin Diesel will take up the mantel of Kojack, the tough-as-nails detective originally portrayed by the classically bald Telly Savalas. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, best known for scripting a number of James Bond adventures, have come on board as writers, while Diesel will transition to the thriller after wrapping his work on the next two Fast and Furious films. With any luck, modern audiences will love it, baby…and if you get that reference, you’re much too old to be reading this site. [Deadline]

Lastly, Django himself, Mr. Jamie Foxx, was recently announced as the villain Electro in the next Spider-Man film. One of the series’ most underwhelming rogues, Electro seems to be getting something of a narrative face-lift this time around. In the comics, Electro is given his super-charged abilities after a random encounter with a downed power line. In the film, however, Foxx reveals that Electro’s powers are the result of an encounter with the titular superhero after his under-appreciated alter-ego, Max Dillion, fancies himself to be Spider-Man’s side-kick. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has found its Harry Osborn.

Director Marc Webb announced that Chronicle star Dane DeHaan will play Peter Parker’s friend and future nemesis in the Sony sequel.

In addition to DeHaan, actors Alden Ehrenreich and Brady Corbet were also up for the role. DeHaan had his breakout role earlier this year, in Fox’s found-footage superhero hit Chronicle. James Franco previously played the character in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man films.

Webb broke the news via Twitter, which was quickly followed by an official press release which confirmed that DeHaan will play the role in the second chapter of a planned trilogy.

The new Harry Osborn will join Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx and Oscar-nominee Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) in the film, alongside Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release May 2, 2014.

The Spidey fandom went a-buzzing this week when multiple guerrilla projections of Spider-Man’s insignia were spotted across the the globe. Landmarks in Sydney, Moscow, Los Angeles and New York were all plastered with the webbed hero’s icon marking. The lit message was seen in a total of 13 cities and 12 countries.

We know The Amazing Spider-Man doesn’t hit theaters until this July. So what gives?

Rumor has it that fans who followed Spidey’s projections received details about special events happening around the world on February 6. The word’s still out what those events entail, but it looks to us like big Spider-Man news is coming our way soon. Keep a look out, folks!

After a bit of a bumpy start, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has become a Broadway blockbuster — thanks in large part to the show’s star, Reeve Carney. With one of the most physically demanding roles the Great White Way has ever seen thanks to the high-flying antics that playing Spidey entails, Reeve has to pair up brut athletic strength while still belting out the show’s massive musical numbers penned by Bono and The Edge of U2.

Celebuzz chatted with Carney about how the role came to be, how he prepared for the grueling role and how being thrust into the spotlight is just something that comes with the territory nowadays. Through it all, Reeve — a soft-spoken rocker at heart — is loving everything about his Spider-Man gig, especially how he’s able to put smiles on childrens’ faces night after night.

You’ve been doing the show for quite some time now. Even after months and months of flying around every night, is the rush still the same as it was back when the show opened?

It’s some of the hardest work I’ve ever done. On most Broadway shows you get to sing and act and maybe dance, but in this show I get to fly. It’s kind of crazy. I grew up pretty athletic, so when I started working out for this show, the trainers kept saying that I had a great build for it. It’s pretty cool — it’s just a very odd experience to be able to utilize so many aspects of what I’ve been trained in.

What was the training like?

One of the tests we had to do was climb up a 30 foot rope without using our legs. I was surprised I could do it. The main thing I really needed to work on was my core strength, because for the flying routines, that’s the most important part of being able to control yourself.

What’s your pre-show routine? Do you have any superstitious things that you have to do right before you go on or after? If not a routine, what do you do to prepare?

At this point there’s some incredible martial artists that stretch me out. I do some standard stretches in my forearms and tendons and hands. It’s better to be more pliable. I learned a lot from Chris Daniels, who’s basically the Spider-Man you see in the films. He taught me a lot of things about how to keep my hips open. The main thing for me is the vocal warmup though. When you’re in a house this large, you have to tell a lot of stories with the movement of your body.

It’s a very high-adrenaline show. Does doing the performance night after night lose its impact after a while?

I definitely still get the rush. It’s a different feeling because I’m more comfortable now. You want a little bit of the nerves to give that edge, but being relaxed is a good thing. One thing I want to remember is the smiling kids out there — I just want to live up to their expectations, so I need to be on my game.

We mentioned the physical demands of the show. Are there some days where you think to yourself “Man, I kind of wish I was in Chicago” or a show that wouldn’t beat you up like Spider-Man does?

I don’t think about it that way for a few reasons. One, I’m not a very skilled dancer. Dancing wasn’t required. Two, I’ve liked extreme sports and pushing my body in extreme ways. I enjoy it. Physically it can be exhausting, but it’s worth it because it’s good for your body.

If you could play any other superhero, who would it be?

The funny thing is, I’ve always been a slow reader. Maybe it’s ADD, but my mind wanders, and I end up reading the same thing over and over. Still, I love the imagery of comic books, so I have read my fair share. I hear they’re doing a thing in London called Batman Live — I don’t think it’s a musical, but Batman has always been one of my favorite superheroes. There’s something villainous and dark about him.

Just like in Spider-Man, with great power comes great responsibility — or in the media, scrutiny. How do you deal when tries snapping a photo of you or you read personal items in the press?

I think it’s something that anyone who suddenly gets attention in the media for any type of thing they’re doing, it’s a little disorienting. It’s confusing. It’s something you have to get used to, but being part of a show that’s so high-profile in terms of scrutiny, people were giving it a hard time, but it wound up fueling the success of the show. I try not to take it personally. A lot of journalists — a lot are entertainers and are thespians with a pen and paper. I try not to take it too personally because all they’re trying to do is sell paper or magazines, and hyperbole is something that just sells. Most of what people read is an exaggeration of what’s going on, but you just kind of take it with a grain of salt.

You have your own band, Carney. Is a music career the direction you’d like to go ultimately, or is acting, whether on Broadway or in movies, the next step?

My heart and soul will always be fully committed to music. The thing in this day and age with the homogenization music, there’s a lot of popular music that I love, but I think there’s just too much of the same. With my band, the theory has always been there’s no point in trying to do what Lady Gaga or someone else does. However, oftentimes people try to ride on the coattails of what’s popular. What I’ve always tried to do is what I do best and what my band Carney does best. That’s been my heart and soul from the beginning. This other stuff has just been great opportunities.

In this current landscape, it seems that having these other avenues to explore is commonplace. Ten years ago it would have been very cheesy. Now, I look at it as just fueling everything else I’m doing.

Talk about puppy love! Emma Stone was spotted kissing her cute dog while on the set of the new Spider-Man movie. Hm, do you think that her co-star Andrew Garfield is jealous that Emma is locking lips with a new fella?

Emma held her black and white pup in her arms as she walked to her trailer on set. Emma was wearing a leg-baring miniskirt with matching knee-high socks but she kept warm by wrapping up in a powder blue down coat.

Kirsten Dunst is finally opening up about her 2008 stint in rehab for depression as she does press for the release of her new film All Good Things with Ryan Gosling, revealing that all was not so good a few years ago.

“I know what it’s like to lose yourself, to no longer know the difference between right or wrong,” Dunst told BlackBook magazine while reliving her monthlong stay at Cirque Lodge rehab in Park City, Utah, a time in her life she also called “awful.” All Good Things was her first acting job after checking out.

One of the worst parts, she says, was dealing with rumors that her rehab stay was drug related. Worse still, her friends and family were forced to defend her from public speculation.

“On a personal level, I would talk to anybody about it, but not on a public level. If I do that, then the next person feels like they can ask me about it, and the person after that, until everyone feels entitled to ask me about it, and that’s not coming from a good place.”

But lemons, even in Hollywood, can make box office lemonade. Kirsten believes her depression actually helped her to connect with her character in All Good Things.

“I was ready to play something like that,” Dunst said. “I had been living on the surface, emotionally, and I was feeling really vulnerable, so I was prepared to do anything at that point.”

Watch out, Spidey; you have a new villain to contend with.

Slumdog Millionaire actor Irrfan Khan, who played a police inspector in the surprise 2008 hit, will move to the other side of the law to play a bad guy in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Khan will be portraying Nels Van Adder, aka “Proto-Goblin,” in the film.

According to Van Adder’s brief appearance in the Spider-Man comics, he served as an employee of Norman Osborn’s Oscorp. Osborn (aka Green Goblin) tested his partner’s serum on Van Adder, giving him powers that include large claws, talons, fangs, and an almost impenetrable skin. It’s been suggested that the inclusion of Proto-Goblin will set the stage for the return of the Green Goblin in the rebooted series. (In previous installments, Osborn/Green Goblin was portrayed by Willem Dafoe.)

The revamped Spider-Man, which stars Andrew Garfield as the famed web-slinger in place of Tobey Maguire, is slated to hit theaters on July 3, 2012.

Now that she’s officially cast in Spiderman 4, rising star Emma Stone is sure to get even hotter on the Hollywood scene.

Emma Stone is making a play for hottest actress in the Hollywood game, and it has little to do with her fiery mane.

Columbia Pictures announced this week that Stone, 21, nailed a coveted role in the upcoming Spiderman 4, playing Spidey’s first love Gwen Stacy opposite new hero Andrew Garfield. She’s also fresh off a star turn in the Scarlet Letter update Easy A and preparing to make her hosting debut on the Oct. 23 edition of Saturday Night Live.

Emma sharpened her comedic chops with a role in the Rainn Wilson comedy The Rocker, in which she played a member in a high school band that plays a big gig (at the prom.) She also met singer Teddy Geiger during filming, which led to a reported romantic relationship back in 2008.

Deadline Hollywood reports that the Glee beauty is being considered for a role as Spider-Man’s love interest in the new Spidey reboot starring The Social Network‘s Andrew Garfield. Director Marc Webb is reportedly looking to cast two potential female roles. One would be Gwen Stacy (Spidey’s first love) and the other Mary Jane Watson.

Other actresses that are being considered for the female roles include Emma Stone, Georgina Haig and Alice in Wonderland‘s Mia Wasikowska.

The only drawback from Dianna starring in the new Spider-Man flick would be that she would probably have to cut back on her time on Glee.

Everyone is a-buzz over The Social Network, and the highly-anticipated film’s young stars are set to take over Hollywood. One of the film’s key actors, Andrew Garfield, has a particularly bright future ahead of him (along with some Oscar buzz), but little is known about the British import.

So, what’s to know about Andrew? Celebuzz dug deep to find out more about this talented young man (and future Spider-Man) before he catapults to the top of the A-list.

Who is Andrew? Born in Los Angeles but raised in England, Andrew at first wanted to be a musician but quickly discovered that tunes weren’t his true calling. Later, Andrew took up gymnastics but left it all behind to pursue a career in acting and attend the famed Central School of Speech and Drama. The 27-year-old actor can also make a mean cup o’ joe: He worked as a barista at Starbucks before his career took off.

Can he act? Of course he can! In fact, Andrew received the BAFTA for Best Actor in 2008 for his breakout role in Boy A. Check out the trailer below.

What else has he been in? Aside from his star turn in Boy A, Andrew has had roles in The Other Boleyn Girl, The Imaginarious of Doctor Parnassus and Never Let Me Go. Like any good British actor, Andrew also has impressive theater roots–he starred in Kes at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theater in 2004.

What are his future plans? Andrew will put his gymnast skills to work when he stars as the new Spider-Man in the Marc Webb-directed reboot. However, with The Social Network and the new Spider-Man under his belt, Andrew will probably rule Hollywood by the end of next year.

Apparently, not everyone is scoring a massive payday in Hollywood these days.

Andrew Garfield, the British actor who was recently tapped to star in the reboot of the Spider-Man movie franchise, will reportedly only receive $500,000 for the first installment of the comic-book movie franchise—not bad at all for us mere mortals, and perhaps not too shabby for a relative unknown, but a fairly paltry sum compared to what his predecessor, Tobey Maguire, received.

By contrast, Maguire was paid $4 million for his first portrayal of the web-slinger, reportedly raked in $17.5 million plus a 5% back-end percentage for Spider-Man 2, and was supposedly offered another $20 mil, plus a back-end percentage, for the fourth installment before Sony decided to start from scratch with the series. Ouch.

On the bright side, Garfield will receive $1 million for his second Spidey flick, and $2 million for the third. Assuming that the fickle powers that be in Hollywood don’t replace him first.

In the meantime, maybe Garfield can supplement his income by doing kids’ parties in his Spider-Man costume?

Sony Pictures has announced that they are casting a relatively unknown actor in the highly sought-after role of the young Spider Man.

Their pick? Andrew Garfield, a young British actor who has previously starred in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassius and will be appearing in the upcoming Facebook movie, The Social Network.

Although Andrew is kinda unknown, there is no doubt that this will be a career-making role for the young actor. With a big role like this, Andrew may be the next Robert Pattinson. He’s already got the hair, now all he needs is a good nickname (A-Garf?).

Meet Logan Lerman, the star of the upcoming Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and, if he’s to be believed, the latest in a growing list of candidates to take over the role of Spider-Man from Tobey Maguire, now that the studio has decided to give the hugely successful movie series a reboot.

The 18-year-old sat down with Access Hollywood‘s Billy Bush on Thursday to explain that he and Sony have been in talks for him to don the tights:

“There have been a few discussions, it’s definitely something I’m looking into.. It’s one of my favorite characters ever and I’m a huge fan of the series. I’d love to have more conversations about it. I’m definitely very interested in it.”

Well, sure; can’t you just see him striking fear into the hearts of bad guys? Or at least inspiring them to tousle his hair and play “got your nose” with him?

Our Spidey Sense is tingling, and we sense…a wonderfully intriguing if somewhat questionable rumor on the upcoming Spider-Man franchise reboot.

High School Musical hunk Zac Efron will reportedly be donning the tights for the forthcoming fourth installment of the movie series, following Tobey Maguire‘s departure from the hugely successful franchise. According to a studio insider,

“After dumping Spidey, Tobey then came to the rescue by recommending that Zac should take over his role.”

Efron, 22, will supposedly collect around $14 million to assume the web-slinging role for the next flick, which is due to begin shooting later this year for a 2012 release. And just to make things too perfect, guess who they’re considering to take the place of Kirsten Dunst in the role of Spidey’s girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson? According to the source, the studio is gunning for Efron’s High School Musical co-star and real-life squeeze, Vanessa Hudgens:

“It would be a great coup to land her as well. The franchise would be revitalised and transformed by two of Hollywood’s most gifted and fast-rising young stars.”

Maybe Ashley Tisdale can play the villain?

With Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi on the outs from the Spider-Man franchise and a series reboot in the offing, word is that New Moon heartthrob R-Pattz is being tapped to take on the web-slinging role in the fourth Spider-Man flick.

Hmm; our Spidey sense is tingling…no, wait, that’s just our nostrils twitching at the stench of probable BS.

Still, it’s an interesting proposition. On one hand, the highly unlikely casting move would make Spider-Man British, which just doesn’t seem right. On the other hand, we’re betting Rippy would look pretty sweet in the blue-and-red tights.

Frankly, we’re baffled—mostly, at the fact that this rumor is even circulating. So we’re opening the floor to you, dear readers. Would R-Pattz make a good Spider-Man? Let us know in the comments section!

Wired magazine reports that Sony has already given screenwriter James Vanderbilt the go-ahead to write the scripts for Spider-Man 5 and 6, based on the script he wrote for Spider-Man 4.

The fourth big-screen installment of the Spidey saga is due to begin production early next year, with Sam Raimi directing, and Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst returning as Peter and Mary Jane.

Following that, Raimi plans to take on the film adaptation of popular game World of Warcraft.

What’s a girl to do after breaking up with Marilyn Manson—besides scrub herself from head to toe?

If you’re Evan Rachel Wood, you sign on to play Spider-man’s girlfriend on the Great White Way.

IESB reports that Wood, who broke up with ghoulish rocker Manson, 39, last month, has joined the cast of an upcoming Spider-man musical, which begins rehearsals in June 2009 and is expected to open on Broadway in early to mid-2010.

The 21-year-old actress will be playing Mary Jane Watson, girlfriend to Spidey alter-ego Peter Parker. The character of Watson has been portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in the Spider-man movie series.

The play will boast a score written by U2 guitarist the Edge, and will be directed by Julie Taymor, 55, whose résumé includes the stage production of The Lion King as well as the 2002 Frida Kahlo biopic Frida.

The role of Parker/Spider-man has yet to be filled, though 27-year-old actor Jim Sturgess, who appeared in the 2007 Beatles-inspired musical Across the Universe (also directed by Taymor), is on the short list.

Wood says that the play’s producers are “still trying to convince him.”
