Captain Kirk’s got one out of this world man cave.

When he’s not saving the world in Star Trek: Into Darkness, big screen heartthrob Chris Pine is putting his feet up pretty nicely in this incredible Mediterranean home located in a gated Los Angeles compound on a stunning 1.5-acres.

The newly-single 32-year-old hunk bought the 2,200 square-foot home in 2010 with all that newfound dough he made after the super success of the first Star Trek from previous owner actor Jason Lee. The price tag: a cool $3.104 million.

The enchanting 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom European-style, custom-built manse is located in the exclusive Los Feliz neighborhood of L.A. and sits on a whopping 61,490 square foot lot that showcases the posh property’s artistic landscaping.

And this isn’t like any other bachelor pad. Built in 1948, this architecturally-unique home features a private spa and secret garden adjacent to the master bedroom, glistening pool, dining area with… get this… walls of glass that open to the lush grounds, party-ready chef’s kitchen with Viking appliances and Sub-Zero fridge, patio with fireplace and BBQ, wine cellar, and even Zinfandel vines to harvest.

If that wasn’t enough to epitomize Pine’s leading man status, this Trekkie’s heard-earned cash also gets him rich hardwood floors, beamed ceilings, separate office and studio, guest house, and priceless views of the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory.

After Disney confirmed the rumors that director J.J. Abrams will direct the next Star Wars film — the long-awaited Episode VII — the only sound that threatened to drown out fan boy speculation about what that installment would be is fan boy speculation over who might take over the next Star Trek film.

Mind you, Abrams already has a sequel to his incredibly successful 2009 franchise reboot in the can, so fans can at least rest easy knowing he at least made two Trek films before taking on George Lucas‘ legacy.

But assuming that he does not return to finish a Trek trilogy, Celebuzz decided to assemble a shortlist of filmmakers who might be well-suited to step into Abrams’ admittedly-enormous shoes.

The choice of Abrams for Star Wars more or less confirms Hollywood’s penchant for trying to find hitmakers, and have them recreate that magic over and over again — if possible, anyway.

So for our list, we chose a cross-section of possibly obvious helmers who could do the material justice, as well as a few left-field choices who could bring the franchise some different elements — or perhaps simply emphasize certain ones that have been Trek hallmarks since the series began, but we buried beneath the muscle of blockbuster moviemaking.

Yes, J.J. Abrams uses lens flares. Try not to faint.

He also uses other filmmaking tropes, with much success, to earn fanboy comparisons to being the “next” Steven Spielberg. But with the recent announcement that Abrams will direct the next installment of the Star Wars series, it looks like the Star Trek helmer is poised to be the next George Lucas.

As Abrams gears up to leave the Final Frontier for that galaxy far, far away, Celebuzz takes a look at 7 of the filmmaker’s hallmarks that will most likely pop up in Episode VII.

2009′s Star Trek is basically an audition tape for Star Wars. The latter films greatly influenced the former, from story elements to visual cues.

We looked back at Abrams’ work, from Alias to Super 8, and zeroed-in on some signature Abrams-isms that fanboys will either embrace or learn to deal with when Episode VII hits theaters in 2015.

According to news released today, director J.J. Abrams will henceforth be placed in charge of every blockbuster franchise beginning with the word “Star.” Abrams has reportedly signed onboard to direct Star Wars Episode VII, a title what was until several months ago considered an unlikely sequel, at best, The Wrap reported Thursday.

The director is currently finishing up work on the sequel to his reboot of the Star Trek saga, the much-discussed, highly anticipated summer release Star Trek: Into Darkness. It was his work on this series that seemingly inspired Abrams to take himself out of contention for George Lucas’ cinematic empire as recently as November, claiming that he’d rather be in the audience as a fan than behind the camera a director.

But ever since Disney snatched up Lucasfilm in late 2012, producer Kathleen Kennedy has been aggressively courting the geek icon to take up the helm of (at least) the first of the three planned sequels. Details of the agreement are forthcoming and we expect an official announcement shortly. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see what might have turned J.J. Abrams around – aside, of course, from the millions of dollars and a place in sci-fi history.

Which, technically, he had already thanks to Star Trek. What should be interesting now is Abrams’ camp attempting to squelch the low roar of dissent from Trekfans who feel betrayed by the filmmaker’s possible move to the rival franchise.

Robert Downey, Jr. recently dropped some hints as to what audiences can expect from Iron Man 3. Apparently, the film’s best bit of acting comes not from its star, but rather from former Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau, who plays Tony Stark’s executive bodyguard, Happy Hogan. “Happy has an amazing arc in this movie,” Downey said. “In fact, probably the best two bits of acting in the movie, so far from what I can tell…which sucks because I’m in every frame, are Favreau as Happy Hogan…I can’t give away much, but it’s ridiculous.” Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black, hits theaters May 3, 2013. In more threequel news, director Todd Phillips teased story details on The Hangover Part III. “[The movie] is Alan’s story,” Phillips said of Zach Galifianakis’ character. ”He’s going through a crisis after the death of his father, [and] the Wolfpack is all he has.” The director also revealed that, while the Wolfpack will indeed return to Las Vegas this trip, it’s “just one of their stops” in the sequel. The film opens May 24, 2013. [EW]

We’ve known for some time that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt was not returning to helm the sequel (Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves has stepped in). Now it looks like Rise’s leading man, James Franco, may also sit out Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. “I was going to be a small part of the next movie,” Franco said in a recent interview. “There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened… Now Rupert’s not a part of it so I don’t know. My guess is I won’t be in it. Nobody’s talked to me since Rupert left.” We’ll find out if we have a Franco-less Dawn (new band name, calling it!) when the film hits theaters May 23, 2014. [MTV]

Fans of The Hunger Games will have to wait till next November for the sequel, Catching Fire, to hit theaters, but star Josh Hutcherson recently spilled some production details to tide fans over.

When asked what portions of the film director Francis Lawrence will shoot in IMAX, Hutcherson said: “They’re shooting, I think, all the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX. So when you go see it in IMAX, you’ll see the regular movie when we’re in the Districts and in the Capitol. When you see us go up in the pod in the games, it will open up into IMAX. It will be amazing. It’s very cool.” [MTV]

Meanwhile, the veil of secrecy surrounding J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness has also been lifted…ish.

Paramount Pictures, via their press site, released the film’s first official story synopsis. Here it is:

“In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

“With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

“As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.” [TheFilmStage.com]

Marvel’s Kevin Feige teased plot details about another much-anticipated sequel, Iron Man 3. When asked how the film, starring Robert Downey, Jr., will link back to The Avengers, Feige said: “Iron Man 3 doesn’t feature any of the other Avengers, or Nick Fury showing up, or any of those world-blending conceits that the Phase One films had… We’re sticking to the vision for these films, and showing once again that these characters are just as interesting alone as they are together.” [Empire]

Frankenweenie screenwriter John August is in talks to adapt author R.J. Palacio’s bestseller, Wonder, for Lionsgate. The New York Times bestseller centers on a 10-year-old boy with an unusual deformity on his face, as he struggles to fit in with the kids at school. In addition to this year’s Frankenweenie, August also worked on the script for another 2012 Tim Burton film, Dark Shadows. [Variety]

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder is adding fuel to the fire that his take on Superman may indeed have a link to Warner Bros.’ Justice League. Speaking with The New York Post, Snyder danced around the subject of how Justice League will handle Superman’s involvement. When prodded further, Snyder said: “I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.” While it’s not exactly a confirmation that Snyder’s Superman will appear in Justice League, it’s not exactly a denial either. [The Playlist]

In the films that he’s written, directed and starred in, Tyler Perry’s biggest challenge was usually getting support-top hosiery to stay on while he throttled his co-stars as Madea. But in Alex Cross, where he plays a homicide detective and serial killer profiler, Perry recounted that it was just the throttling that kept him on his toes.

“The biggest challenge for me was letting go in the fighting,” he told Celebuzz. “I’m always careful because I’m a nice guy, but that guy lives down inside me, that UFC guy, but I keep him under wraps. So letting go of that was the biggest challenge for me.”

What does his new role mean for the future of Madea?

Despite the 180 Perry makes with Alex Cross, he insists that his iconic matriarch isn’t going anywhere.

“Just like [Alex Cross author] James Patterson has a very loyal audience, so do I, and I like to give them what they want,” he said. “So if they like Madea, Madea will be around. If they love this, this will be around. I don’t think there has to be a choice between one or the other. But as an actor, you should be able to do many different things.”

Meanwhile, one of the “different things” that Perry will apparently not be doing in the near future is returning to the Star Trek movie series, after enjoying a cameo in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 franchise reboot.

“No, we couldn’t work it out – couldn’t work out the timing of it all,” he revealed. “But I spoke to J.J. a few days ago, and I’m very excited for it and for him.”

Karl Urban is currently commanding screens nationwide as the title character in Dredd 3D, but in 2013, he’ll be rejoining the ensemble cast of Star Trek for the film’s sequel.

After the actor revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch’s character in Star Trek Into Darkness was Gary Mitchell, an iconic character from the original series’ pilot, speculation has run rampant about how much the follow-up might take from the show, as opposed to trekking off into its own direction.

Speaking to Celebuzz at Fantastic Fest, where Dredd 3D played as one of the opening night films, Urban was perhaps predictably diplomatic about the sequel’s story.

What does Urban promise audiences will experience in the ‘Trek’ sequel?

“It was just wonderful getting back together with that team – we’re like a family,” Urban said. “J.J. Abrams is one of the most brilliant directors that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He’s going to deliver something to an audience that’s going to be epic, that’s going to be emotional, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

When asked if in the sequel he feels a greater sense of ownership 0f “Bones” McCoy, the character first played by DeForrest Kelley, he demurred, confessing his appreciation to get to participate at all.

“I just have such huge admiration for the TOS cast,” he said. “The original series was something special to me that I enjoyed as a kid. And to be a part of that is an amazing privilege.”

Chris Pine looked mighty fine all suited up at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s installation luncheon, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel yesterday afternoon.

Just earlier that day, he was spotted grabbing a cup of coffee from his favorite Silverlake, CA cafe, wearing a white shirt, jeans, and a visor.

Yep, haven’t seen one of those in a while. Who cares, if anycone can pull it off, it’s this Star Trek hottie.

The Star Trek star—recently rumored to have been dating Hills brunette Audrina Patridge—is in negotiations to star alongside Denzel Washington in the upcoming thriller Unstoppable, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

In the movie, Washington will play a train engineer who’s about to be laid off due to cutbacks. Pine is in talks to play his replacement, who helps Washington try to stop an unmanned freight train carrying a potentially disastrous load of combustible liquids and poisonous gas.

The film is being produced by Tony Scott (The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Tristan + Isolde).

Chris has made headlines recently for rumors about a possible hookup with Hills star Audrina Patridge. Both have denied dating rumors.

Have Audrina Patridge and Chris Pine been logging some star dates together?

In Touch Weekly reports that Star Trek lead Pine and Hills breakout Patridge—who were spotted enjoying drinks together at the Red Lion Tavern in Los Angeles last Friday—have actually been seeing a lot more of each other than that lately.

According to a source, the two first met at Tao in Las Vegas during ShoWest in April. “They both got awards and were at a dinner with friends. They said a quick hello,” the source says. “Chris was looking at Audrina a lot, and you could tell that he thought she looked pretty—he was intrigued.”

Intrigued enough, apparently, to hook up with her a month later. According to the source, Patridge was spotted leaving Pine’s apartment building during the early morning hours of May 2—followed 10 minutes later by Pine, who was en route to catch a flight.

Sounds like he had a pretty good send-off.

Chris Hemsorth is about to get hammered, y’all.

Deadline Hollywood reports that the 25-year-old Australian actor—currently on the big screen as George Kirk in Star Trek—has landed the title role in Kenneth Branaugh‘s big-screen adaptation of the Marvel comic book Thor.

The movie, about a Viking god of thunder who wields a magic hammer, is set for a June 17, 2011 release.

This is a big career week for Hemsworth, who was also reportedly cast in the lead for the upcoming remake of the 1984 Patrick Swayze classic Red Dawn.

Well, whaddaya know? It turns out that Chris Pine looks pretty good out of the Captain Kirk uniform too.

The Star Trek actor plays dress-up for GQ magazine, trying on a variety of stylish suits to pretty up its pages.

He also pipes up on a variety of topics. Such as:

The ribbing that he’s taken from his buddies since landing the Kirk role: “It’s pretty f*cking inescapable. I play basketball with a bunch of guys at 9:30 a.m. and it’s like, ‘Yo, wussup, Captain Kirk!’ I don’t have a smart comeback yet.”

The importance of the original Star Trek series: “The kitsch factor in the original Star Trek series is high, but the show manages to take on these huge questions about race, sex, and war. I have a great appreciation for what Mr. Shatner did with the part. There’s a gravity to it, but he’s having fun.”

Working with Lindsay Lohan on 2006′s Just My Luck: “She was making a lot of money and attracting a lot of attention from the paparazzi. It put in stark relief that I don’t want that kind of life.”

Zachary Quinto apparently really needed a hand while filming the new big-screen Star Trek remake.

The New York Post reports that the Heroes actor—who portrays legendary vulcan Spock in the film—required a lot of help, and a little adhesive, to do Spock’s famous “live long and prosper” hand gesture.

Quinto “couldn’t train his fingers” to perform the salute, says a source. At first, Star Trek director J.J. Abrams tried fixing Quinto’s fingers into formation with a couple of rubber bands. When even that didn’t work, an exasperated Abrams “glued Zachary’s fingers together during filming.”

Maybe that’s why Quinto took Winona Ryder to Star Trek‘s Los Angeles premiere? After all, Ryder, too, has a reputation for sticky fingers.

In a twist worthy of Star Trek‘s fantastical plot lines, Captain James T. Kirk had a run-in with himself recently.

Chris Pine, who stars as USS Enterprise captain James Tiberius Kirk in the new, sexed-up Star Trek movie, finally had a chance to meet legendary actor William Shatner, who played the character in the original series and its subsequent big-screen adaptations.

The date: April 25, 2009. The setting: Some sort of convention that apparently called for cowboy hats and county music. The result: Less than earth-shaking.

After Pine steps up and introduced himself, Shatner, 78, quickly tried to push Pine off on his wife. Big mistake, dude. What woman could resist the overpowering charms of Chris Pine?

Then again, maybe Shatner had to run off and film another one of those bizarre Priceline ads.
