<p>The visionary behind Apple and its incredibly popular devices would have turned 58 this Sunday.  Although Jobs, who could always be seen wearing his signature black turtleneck, died in October 2011, his legacy lives on today.</p>

<p>While many of us grew up hearing stories of the introduction of the telephone, the television, and the Internet, we were lucky enough to experience first-hand the mobile and tech revolution that Jobs created.</p>
<p>Popularizing the concept of the PC in the early &#8217;80s, Jobs introduced future users to the mouse as a means of navigating throughout the screen. Fast-forward almost 20 years, and the late Apple CEO brought the world the iPod, iTunes, the MacBook, the iPhone, and most recently before his death, the iPad. The technology titan changed the way we think, work, and consume and use content — Jobs welcomed us with open arms to the digital age, wow-ing us with one game-changing device after another.</p>
<p>Apple now operates more than 300 retail stores in 11 countries, and the company has sold more than 275 million iPods, 100 million iPhones, and 25 million iPads.  We’d say they’re doing pretty fine.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Unfortunately, Jobs’ death was not unexpected; he had been battling pancreatic cancer since 2003 and had stepped down as Apple’s chief executive because he could “no longer meet (his) duties and expectations.”</p>
<p>&#8220;Remembering that I&#8217;ll be dead soon is the most important tool I&#8217;ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life,” he said in his 2005 Stanford University commencement speech. “Because almost everything &#8212; all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure &#8211; these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. &#8230; Stay hungry. Stay foolish.&#8221;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Yet Jobs&#8217; brilliance and energy are still alive today — Apple remains just as detail-oriented when it comes to designing and developing, releasing no new product to the public unless it meets the legacy of Jobs’ exacting standards. Not to mention, you&#8217;re bound to receive an email with &#8220;Sent from my iPhone&#8221; at least once a day, and you can definitely always spot someone listening to music through the signature Apple white headphones.</p>
<p>In addition, Hollywood is recognizing Jobs with a movie about his life: it stars <a href="www.celebuzz.com/celebrities/ashton-kutcher"><strong>Ashton Kutcher</strong></a> and will hit theaters this April.</p>

<p>This week, the 34-year-old actor took to <a style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;" href="http://twitter.com/aplusk/status/295048069769220096/photo/1" target="_blank">his Twitter</a> to share a split image of himself and Jobs, who passed away in 2011.</p>
<p>“Thank you Sundance for your support of Jobs,” Kutcher <a href="https://twitter.com/aplusk/status/295048069769220096" target="_blank">wrote alongside</a> the snapshot.</p>
<p>The photo comes after the film was slammed by critics following its premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.</p>
<p>From <a href="http://www.indiewire.com/article/sundance-review-ashton-kutcher-does-a-solid-steve-in-jobs-but-is-this-tame-biopic-a-lost-cause-from-the-start" target="_blank">C+ level</a> grades to comparing the film to a “<a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/node/415643" target="_blank">two-hour commercial</a>” for Apple, many of the responses were not pretty.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.celebuzz.com/2013-01-28/jobs-ashton-kutcher-is-too-boyish-to-fill-the-apple-ceo-position-movie-review/" target="_blank"><strong>Celebuzz</strong>’s own review</a> of the film concluded that Kutcher was too boyish to play Jobs, while Apple co-founder <strong>Steve Wozniak </strong><a href="http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/30/tech/innovation/wozniak-jobs-movie/index.html" target="_blank">called the picture</a> “awful and atrocious,&#8221; adding that he &#8220;didn’t want to have much to do with that movie.”</p>
<p><em>jOBS</em>, also starring <a href="http://celebuzz.com/celebrities/dermot-mulroney" target="_blank"><strong>Dermot Mulroney</strong></a>, <strong>Matthew Modine</strong> and <strong>Lukas Haas</strong>, opens in theaters Apr. 19.</p>

Apple products are ubiquitous, and the company &#8212; until last week’s reported drop in earnings, anyway &#8212; was rated as the world’s most valuable.</p>
<p>It therefore seemed inevitable that, following the publication of his best-selling biography shortly after his death, Jobs would become the subject of a movie.</p>
<p>But last week the first of two movie projects, entitled <em>jOBS</em>, an uninspired, hagiographic look at the man who changed the way we view computers, landed with a thud at Sundance.</p>
<p><span id="more-14169752"></span></p>
<p>It opens in 2001 with <a href="http://www.celebuzz.com/celebrities/ashton-kutcher/" target="_blank"><strong>Ashton Kutcher</strong></a>, as Jobs, unveiling the iPod.With thinning hair, four-day’s growth on his chin and a loping gait, he takes the stage before a rapt crowd of Apple acolytes. As <strong>John Debney</strong>’s painfully overwrought score swells to a crescendo, Jobs, who we see only in snippets, holds up his state-of-the-art portable media player and proclaims, “Ladies and gentleman, I give you the iPod!” as if he’s found the cure for cancer.</p>
<p>The scene sets the tone for the rest of the film, assuring us that though he had his flaws, Steve Jobs was a genius of superhuman proportions.</p>
<p>Flashback to Reed College, 1972, where Jobs, a brash young student, drops acid, drops out, heads to India, searches his soul, and finally returns home to a job at the fledgling video game company, Atari where he is admonished for being an obnoxious jerk. But as the film would have it, sometimes being a jerk is compulsory if you’re out to change the world. Of course, Jobs didn’t change the world. He didn’t invent the cell phone nor the PC, only made them more usable&#8230; and more expensive.</p>
<p>Enlisting the help of his friend <strong>Steve Wozniak</strong> (who <em>did</em> invent the PC), Jobs successfully modifies <em>Breakout</em>, a video game, for which he is paid $5000, but tells Wozniak the deal was for $700, which they split, with Jobs pocketing the balance.</p>
<p>Instances like this show a darker side of Jobs, but throughout the movie we are only given glimpses of his selfish, nearly sociopathic behavior, double-crossing most everyone in his path. Instead, director<strong> Joshua Michael Stern</strong> (<em>Swing Vote</em>) and first-time writer <strong>Matt Whiteley</strong> choose a different approach, focusing on their subject’s (yawn) relentless pursuit of perfection.</p>
<p>Recruiting a team of technicians, led by Wozniak, they begin working out of Jobs’ parents’ garage (shot on the actual Los Altos location) assembling circuit boards and laying the groundwork for what will become the first PC.</p>
<p>At this point, the movie settles into a timeline of Apple Inc. &#8211; the political infighting surrounding the Apple Lisa, (an early PC that failed to the tune of millions), the launch of Apple I and II, and the board’s battle with and ultimate victory over Jobs, who was ousted in 1985 only to be reinstated as CEO in 1996. As such, <em>jOBS</em> feels more like a chronological checklist, lacking emotional content in favor of &#8220;facts&#8221; &#8212; most of which are readily available on the internet, and seldom more in depth or revelatory.</p>
<p>The model for <em>jOBS</em> is <em>Citizen Kane</em> or, more recently, <em>The Social Network</em>, in that each focuses on real-life, hard-driving entrepreneurs who alienate those around them as they build their empires. But <em>Citizen Kane </em>is not about publishing, and <em>The Social Network</em> is not about the internet. Instead, each focuses on character and the curse of isolation that sometimes accompanies vaulting ambition. But <em>jOBS</em> is so impressed with its subject that it leaves precious little time to explore the imperfect man behind the icon.</p>
<p>Some might consider <strong>Ashton Kutcher</strong>, not known for his personal gravity, a bold casting choice. But his presence here is a miscalculation. His performance isn’t the disaster you might expect, but despite some physical similarities and a dead-on loping gait, Kutcher has a boyish quality unbefitting the role.</p>
<p>He enjoys a natural rapport with <strong>Josh Gad</strong> (<em>1600 Penn</em>), a versatile entertainer who brings pathos to his role of neglected genius, Wozniak. But with material as meager as Whiteley’s screenplay, Gad’s performance is mainly characterized by horrendous hair and bad suits.</p>
<p><strong>Dermot Mulroney</strong> embodies an efficient <strong>Mike Markkula</strong>, an entrepreneur who backs Jobs and the boys early on, later becoming his right-hand man as Apple’s stock rises.</p>
<p><strong>Matthew Modine</strong>, as marketing wiz <strong>John Scully</strong>, does yeoman’s work with the script’s wafer-thin characterization. And <strong>J.K. Simmons</strong>, in a ridiculous wig, is adequately rigid as Apple board member <strong>Arthur Rock</strong>. But no diamond sparkles in the dark, and no matter how talented <em>jOBS’</em> cast is, without adequate material it cannot shine.</p>
<p>An epic figure defined by the digital revolution, Steve Jobs makes a compelling subject for a film. Oscar-winning writer of <em>The Social Network</em>, <strong>Aaron Sorkin</strong> revealed recently he’s working on a unorthodox screenplay about Jobs consisting of only three scenes surrounding the launch of three different products. It sounds unique and daring &#8212; and it could be a disaster. But however it turns out, it’ll probably be better than <em>jOBS</em>.</p>

<p>“First I learned that a fruitarian diet can lead to some severe issues,” Kutcher, 34, told a rapt audience following the Sundance premiere of the film last Friday night.</p>
<p>“I ended up in a hospital, like, two days before we started shooting the movie. I was, like, doubled over in pain and my pancreas levels were completely out of whack, which was really terrifying.”</p>
<p><em>jOBS </em>covers the life of the Apple co-founder from his college years in the 1970s through the development of the first personal computer and right up until he was reinstated as CEO of Apple computer following his ouster in the nineties.</p>
<p><span id="more-14154372"></span></p>
<p>Co-starring <em>1600 Penn</em>’s <strong>Josh Gad</strong> as Apple computer genius <strong>Steve Wozniak</strong>, the new movie aims to be a warts-and-all portrayal that includes unflattering episodes wherein Jobs double-crosses early collaborators and turns his back on loved ones.</p>
<p>For Kutcher, a self-proclaimed gadget geek, taking on the role scared the hell out of him.</p>
<p>“This was obviously, like, one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever tried to do in my life because I admire this man so much and what he has done,” he said. “This guy created a tool that we use every day in our life and he believed in it when nobody else did. So that’s terrifying.”</p>
<p>So how did Kutcher pull off one of the most intimidating challenges he’s ever faced?</p>
<p>He watched hundreds of hours of footage, listened to speeches, met with friends and acquaintances of Jobs, then tried to deconstruct how Jobs &#8212; an ordinary guy from San Francisco &#8212; became an entrepreneurial icon.</p>
<p>Most of all, what helped Kutcher connect with his subject was the desire to produce a product that connects with people.</p>
<p>“Ultimately I think it was about his desire to create something for other people that they can appreciate,” said Kutcher. “And I think when we make movies, the end goal is to create something that you can share with people, that moves people, that changes them, that creates a better life for them. And to me those things are powerful values of Steve Jobs that I got from working on this.”</p>
<p><em>jOBS</em> opens nationwide Apr. 19.</p>

<p>Viewers are taken to Jobs and <strong>Steve Wozniak</strong>’s (played by <strong>Josh Gad</strong>) Hewlett Packard days. Wozniak has just created a computer operating system, but would rather keep it to himself as he believes the outside world wouldn’t nerd out as much.</p>
<p>“You can see what you’re working on while you’re working on it,” a bearded Kutcher says in the clip. “This is freedom. This is freedom to create, and to do and to build, as artists. As individuals.”</p>
<p>“No one wants to buy a computer, nobody!” Gad fires back.</p>
<p><span id="more-14131782"></span></p>
<p><em>jOBS</em>, which opens in theaters on Apr. 19, will close the 2013 Sundance Film Festival this weekend.</p>
<p>The film, directed by <strong>Joshua Michael Stern</strong> (<em>Swing Vote</em>), also stars <strong>Dermot Mulroney</strong>, <strong>Matthew Modine</strong>, <strong>Lukas Haas</strong> and <strong>J.K. Simmons</strong>.</p>

<p>While the <em>Two and a Half Men</em> star, 34, <a href="http://www.celebuzz.com/2012-05-14/first-look-ashton-kutcher-as-steve-jobs-for-new-biopic-photos/" target="_blank">has already started shooting </a>the biopic where he takes on the role of the late <strong>Steve Jobs</strong>, the Oscar-winning writer (<em>The Social Network, West Wing, Moneyball</em>) has announced that he too is making a movie about the Apple mogul.</p>
<p>Sorkin will adapt <strong>Walter Isaacso</strong>n’s biography of Jobs, Sony Pictures announced on Tuesday (as reported by<em> <a href="http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/05/15/aaron-sorkin-adapting-steve-jobs-bio/" target="_self">Entertainment Weekly</a></em>).</p>
<p><em>So, what&#8217;s the difference between the two biopics about the technology innovator?</em></p>
<p><span id="more-10519881"></span>Kutcher&#8217;s indie flick, titled<em> Jobs</em>, is written by <strong>Matt Whiteley</strong> and follows the late Jobs’ journey “from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple.&#8221;</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Sony Pictures co-head <strong>Amy Pascal</strong> in a statement to<em> EW</em> about their movie, &#8221;Steve Jobs’ story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time. There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his hands, we’re confident that the film will be everything that Jobs himself was: captivating, entertaining, and polarizing.&#8221;</p>
<p>Steve Jobs passed away on Oct. 5, 2011 after battling cancer. He was 56.</p>

<p>From the Mac, his involvement with Pixar, the iPhone and everything in between, he single&nbsp;handedly&nbsp;changed the world of&nbsp;technology and smart phones over his decades long career.&nbsp;The 56-year-old had left his position as Apple CEO only this summer, with not many realizing what grave condition he was in.</p>
<p>Many celebrities took to their Twitters to express their feelings over Steve&#8217;s passing, and offer their condolences.</p>

<p>Apple released a statement on Tuesday,&nbsp;<a href="http://thisismynext.com/2011/10/05/steve-jobs-died/" target="_blank">saying</a>:</p>
