“I already saw some pretty important reviews, and everything was kosher. That was a very validating… At the end of the day, being a mainstream artist obviously there is pressure to sell. I can’t control that, but I can control the quality of the songs,” Lambert, 30, told Celebuzz at the MLB Fan Cave in New York City.

Although he’s enjoying the success, he’ll be the first to admit it didn’t come easily. Now with Season 11 contestants Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips all vying for the coveted Idol title, Lambert is offering some advice to the wide-eyed singers.

“The transition from a TV talent contest to mainstream radio is really tricky. It is a whole other industry. The rules are different. Your music is based on a lot more than just popularity. The hardest thing about the show is maintaining your own integrity as an artist. You have to work hard. Nothing happens instantly after the show,” he advises.

On Thursday (May 17), Lambert will be returning to his old stomping grounds, performing his new hit “Never Close Our Eyes” on the Idol stage. While he promises an “off the charts” stage show, he’s hoping to pull a few antics of his own backstage — like possibly raiding judge Steven Tyler‘s wardrobe closet!

“I love [Aerosmith frontman] Steven Tyler — and his wardrobe. Every time he comes on screen, I’m like, ‘What the hell is he wearing?!’  I love it… I should ask him if I can raid his closet,” the Grammy-nominated singer joked.

Up next, Lambert will be filling in for one of his primary influences, the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, during five European concerts with Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen.

“I’m excited and honored. There is a lot of work to be done. It has been a while since I covered someone else’s music. It’s a different type of challenge. I’ve done research… I want to pay respect to Freddie. I don’t want to just copy him and do an impression. I’m trying the best I can, working together with Brian and Roger. It’s going to be beautiful,” Lambert gushed.

The former Idol alum has no plans to tour in promotion of his own album, Trespessing, but hopes to have “something lined up by the end of the year.”

In the meantime, his fans can expect to see his new music video for “Never Close Your Eyes” within a few weeks. Trying not to give the whole concept away, Lambert revealed, “It’s a little sci-fi. It challenges and reinterprets the lyrics. It’s not obvious. I mean, with me I’m not into the obvious. I like to twist things.”

Steven stripped down to nothing but his skull print boxer briefs that caused Jennifer Lopez to blush. “I’m gonna take my clothes off and go swimming,” the rocker exclaimed. ”Steven, don’t. … You’re crazy! Steven!” Jennifer exclaimed. “Just hold this for me,” he said, throwing his shirt to Jen.

 Randy Jackson, also shocked, added, “You are not! Are you really? Are you really?”

]]> Bad news for fans who were looking forward to seeing Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler perform in Paraguay this week, the American Idol judge has injured himself after falling in the shower TMZ reports.

As a result of the fall, Tyler reportedly knocked out several teeth, and according to TMZ, “a rep for the venue where the band was supposed to perform tells TMZ … tonight’s concert has been canceled. Calls to Tyler’s rep have not been returned.”

Ouch! Get well soon, Steven!

Taking the night’s highest ratings in its timeslot, the popular show earned 26.1 million viewers. That, however, compared to other Idol seasons, was it’s biggest ratings drop between seasons. It appears that viewers were hesitant to tune in to watch a Simonless Idol, but were pleasantly surprised by the new judges, established artists Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

Tyler brought a great mix of heart and craziness to the judges’ table. If he keeps it up, he will definitely become a viewer favorite. Lopez brought sweetness and performance knowledge, reminiscent of original judge Paula Abdul, and returning judge Randy Jackson showed up energized and ready for a new season. As the performance phase of Season 10 approaches, these judges will surely draw in more viewers.

New American Idol judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, along with their colleague Randy Jackson, descended on Pasadena, California, on Wednesday for the Hollywood auditions. According to Idol‘s newly implemented rules, winners will move on directly to the Top 12.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series’ producers plan to have this season’s Top 12 live together in a house in the Hollywood Hills, with footage possibly being aired on the series in a seeming bid to generate some Real World-type drama. In addition, the contestants’ Twitter restrictions have been loosened, meaning they’ll be allowed to communicate with fans throughout the season. (Last season, the contestants’ were allowed to communicate via social media for a period of time, but were consolidated into a single Idol feed midway through the season.

Another possible break from the Idol format—contestants might be sent out on a road trip, specifically to Las Vegas, where they would engage in an “integration” with the Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles-themed production Love.

All of this, of course, would come in addition to the upheaval on the Idol judges’ panel, which now includes Aerosmith yowler Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, and a previously announced plan to have potential Idols film their own music videos throughout the course of the season.

“Who’s that other lady?” David asked when a picture of Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson and a long-haired Steven Tyler popped up on a monitor.

“No, that’s Steven Tyler,” said host Wendy Williams after a moment of confusion, prompting the studio audience to erupt in laughter.

“No I was looking at Jennifer Lopez,” said a giggling David, “I didn’t know she had a blonde hair now.” Oh David, everyone makes mistakes every now and then.

David was on Wendy’s show today to promote his new album, The Other Side of Down. Unfortunately his gender slip-up will probably overshadow the rest of his appearance (but also get it a lot more views).

Auditions for the upcoming season of Idol kicked off in Jersey City, New Jersey on Tuesday, and Lythgoe was kind enough to tweet a pic of Tyler and Lopez, along with longstanding judge Randy Jackson at their rightful place behind the judges’ table.

Lythgoe noted in the caption,

“It’s great to be back on American Idol. The judges were great.”

Ah, but how were the auditions—which, as everyone knows, are traditionally a mixed bag? During a press conference in Jersey City, Lopez and Tyler were diplomatically enthusiastic about the gaggle of aspiring Idols, with Tyler characterizing them as “spunky and sparky and crazy and over the top” and Lopez calling them “very East Coast.” We’ll leave it to you to interpret if those are positive or negative assessments.

After the Aerosmith frontman, 62, was introduced on stage, J.Lo, 38, emerged from a cloud of smoke (wearing a glittery suit,) to exclaim she is “so excited” about her new gig.

“I’m looking for the next Michael Jackson,” she told the cheering crowd. “We’re looking for the best American Idol ever!

Lopez reportedly inked a $12 million deal with producers, even after she allegedly made diva-esque contract demands.

The new Idol establishment comes after three judges jumped ship after last season. In July, Ellen Degeneres announced she quit and songwriter Kara DioGuardi was reportedly let go.  Idol’s biggest star, judge Simon Cowell, ditched Idol to helm the U.S. version of X-Factor.

Though Fox has yet to issue an official announcement, E! Online has confirmed that Aerosmith singer Tyler has completed negotiations to join the panel of American Idol judges when the show returns for its next season.

It’s still uncertain whether another contender, Jennifer Lopez, will be signing on. According to a source, J.Lo hasn’t exactly endeared herself to the Idol brass with her list of demands—which reportedly include a $20 million salary, along with her own hair, makeup and styling team, plus a “dressing room compound,” whatever that is.

The powers that be at Idol—which include returning executive producer Nigel Lythgoe—still have two more judges’ slots to fill. In addition to Simon Cowell‘s departure earlier this year (he’ll be launching the American version of his British hit The X Factor next year), in recent weeks Ellen DeGeneres resigned from the show, and Kara DioGuardi was relieved of her duties.

The Aerosmith frontman was rumored to be one of the new Idol judges and now the 62-year-old rock star is hinting to fans that the rumors are true.

Steven told People after a concert in Las Vegas that he would “probably” be doing Idol after asked about what his future plans are for this year:

[My plans include] recording an album and [I’m] probably going to be judge on American Idol.

There have been multiple rumors about who the new Idol judges would be after Simon Cowell left the show to focus on an American version of The X Factor, new judge Ellen DeGeneres quit, and Kara DioGuardi was reportedly fired. Rumored replacements include Steven and Jennifer Lopez. Stars like Diddy and Bret Michaels were also said to be vying for a prestigious judging position.

So, is Steven just messing with fans or is he really joining Idol? Later on Steven reportedly told a friend that he’s “doing it.”

TMZ reports that DioGuardi was fired from the show in the wake of Ellen’s unexpected departure.

With Kara and Ellen gone, the lone judge at this point remains Idol stalwart Randy Jackson. Reports say the show plans on going back to a three-judge panel (with the addition of DioGuardi, they were at four), and if/when Lopez comes on there will still be one vacant seat.

New reports say Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will be that third and final judge. Tyler’s name was thrown into the mix just in the last few days, as much speculation had been around other music icons like Bret Michaels, Diddy and Janet Jackson in weeks past.

But let’s be real. Not all celebrities are keeping the promises made at Promises in Malibu.  But how to tell the true converts from those who are decidedly due for a return visit in the near future? We’ve broken down some examples, signs if you will, that your celebrity rehab is not going well.

1.  You’ve taken over the microphone at Home Depot to serenade the shoppers

According to reports, Aerosmith front man, and recent checker-inner at prescription med drug rehab, Steven Tyler, took control of the public address microphone at a Palm Springs area Home Depot and began serenading the crowd with renditions of his classic songs.

Trying to keep the party going, Tyler proceeded to suck down helium to sing falsetto as he signed autographs for bewildered customers at the home improvement mega-store.

2.  Your new girlfriend is an under-aged pre-op transsexual lookalike of your ex

Apparently, Blake Fielder-Civil, the on-again, off-again, flame and favorite drug partner of singer, Amy Winehouse, really missing his boo during a recent breakup, found himself romantically involved with Mia McHugh, an Amy Winehouse impersonating pre-op transexual teenager he met through Facebook.

Recently just out of his latest round of rehab for drug addiction, Fielder-Civil denies that he was smitten with the near-teen-girl, but McHugh tells a romantic tale of forbidden passions, pleading love letters, and other stuff that we can’t really print here out of respect for our family audience.

3.  You’ve asked for a maid and private quarters at your sex addiction clinic

Rumor has all but turned into confirmed rumor of Tiger Woods having checked himself into more than one sexual addiction clinic, in order to save himself, his marriage maybe, and most definitely a several hundred million dollar divorce settlement (if you’re cynical about such things).

Also, while the therapeutic environment stresses group living and counseling, Tiger has specifically requested customized, private quarters and personalized maid and staff services during his stay.

Not a great sign when you enter rehab with a list of demands.

4.  You often find yourself being photographed with a goofy, blank stare on your face.

A veteran of numerous rehab stays, Lindsay Lohan perhaps has set the bar for “obvious signs that my rehab didn’t work as advertised” photo opportunities.

It was just a couple months ago, during Lindsay’s latest string of all-night party benders, that it appeared some friends and family were staging an intervention for LiLo, but she bolted just in time to save her righteous buzz.

5.  You married Bobby Brown

Love is definitely blind, but let’s face it, if you find yourself married to Bobby Brown, it’s not a good sign as to getting yourself straight.

Whitney Houston can attest to this fact, the legendary singer frequenting various rehab centers during the course of her marriage to Bobby, himself rotating the turnstile at the drug addiction clinics quite frequently.

Tyler was performing at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota when he fell down from the stage.

The rock star reportedly suffered minor head and neck injuries and a shoulder injury, but the seriousness of his condition is still unclear.

The mishap occured about halfway through Tyler’s set and he was taken off stage. Around 12:15 a.m., guitarist Joe Perry informed the audience Tyler was being taken to the hospital and that the show would not go on.
