Stevie Nicks obviously likes younger women — when it comes to playing her that is.

Surprisingly, the famous singer doesn’t think that Reese Witherspoon, 37, is up to the job.

“I’ve already told [Reese] she’s almost too old,” the 64-year-old former Fleetwood Mac frontwoman told ET Canada  at the Toronto premiere of her new documentary, In Your Dreams.

This isn’t the first time the gravel voiced singer has shot down a prospective actress in line to star in her biopic.

At one point, Lindsay Lohan’s name was tossed around to play her, but the veteran rocker said the only way that would happen is “over my dead body.”

Casting Witherspoon seems more appropriate since she’s previously won an Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.

But if she doesn’t believe Reese is up to the task then what other ‘age appropriate actresses’ could take-on the part of the hard living rock legend.

At, 26, Juno star Ellen Paige proved she had musical chops by appearing on the movie’s soundtrack along with Michael Cera – their rendition of  The Moldy Peaches and Anyone Else But You was well received by fans and critics alike.

Scarlett Johansson, 28, can act and sing. The Lost In Translation and Vicky Cristina Barcelona star has already released two albums Anywhere I Lay My Head, 2008, plus Pete Yorn’s Break-Up in 2009.

Evan Rachel Wood, 25, used her own voice for the 2007 musical film Across the Universe alongside co-star Jim Sturgess while her acting performances earn rave reviews.

All of these actresses would presumably get Miss Nick’s vote of approval while the film about her life is still in the concept phase.

The longtime singing sensation leaped to Mariah Carey’s defense in an interview with The Daily after the highly publicized Nicki-Mariah diva brawl broke out behind the scenes on American Idol.

Nicks recently apologized for her verbal threat to Nicki in a statement saying, “I want to apologize for my remarks about Nicki Minaj’s behavior toward Mariah Carey, which I said during a long and exhausting day of interviews.”

“It was very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said,” she continued.

Stevie Nicks is eating her words.

The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman had much to say about the now-famous feud between American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. Commenting on Minaj, Nicks had told The Daily, “How dare this little girl! If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there.”

Now the “Stand Back” singer is offering a mea culpa.

“I want to apologize for my remarks about Nicki Minaj’s behavior toward Mariah Carey, which I said during a long and exhausting day of interviews,” Stevie said in a statement to Celebuzz.

“It was very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said. I feel very protective toward Mariah Carey, who has gone through many difficulties in her life, and I spoke without thinking. I think all artists should be respectful toward one another, and that includes me. I am truly sorry.”

Nicks’ comments stemmed from a video that captured Minaj erratically cursing out Carey during auditions in Charlotte, N.C. As the rapper threw threats in the superstar’s direction — shouting “off with your head” and “I will knock you out” — Carey remained calm and carried on with the job at hand: judging the Idol hopefuls.

While the bad blood has generated headlines and hype around the show, some suspect the fracas is no more than a publicity stunt.

“I think right now, because the show isn’t airing, they are trying to keep the buzz up,” Season 3 contestant Diana DeGarmo told Celebuzz. “I think it’s just a case of them causing a stir to get people excited to see it. Then when it starts, it’ll be back to the contestants.”

Former Idol judge Steven Tyler and Cee Lo Green of rival music competition show The Voice have also expressed skepticism.

Team Nicki or Team Mariah? Stevie Nicks is making no secret of whose side she’s on.

The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman has weighed on the highly-publicized American Idol feud, which sparked when singer-rapper Nicki Minaj cussed out fellow new judge Mariah Carey during auditions in Charlotte, N.C., last week. Which dueling diva does Nicks back? Carey, hands down.

“How dare this little girl!” the former Idol coach told The Daily of Minaj. “If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there,” the 64-year-old said.

And Nicks wouldn’t have backed down until she got her way.

“I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it,” added Nicks, whose history with Fleetwood Mac suggests she knows a thing or two about bitter feuds. In the group’s 1970s heyday, Nicks and her bandmates were known for their affairs, betrayals, and beefs, though they channeled all that dysfunction into their songwriting and created some of the top-selling records of all time.

In the behind-the-scenes footage of the Idol fight, Carey certainly took a less aggressive path than Nicks might have. As Minaj threw threats in her direction — saying things like “off with your head” and “I will knock you out” — Carey kept calm and carried on with the job at hand: judging the Idol hopefuls.

While Carey has stayed hush-hush on the clash, Idol host Ryan Seacrest admitted it “was a very heated, intense argument” on his morning radio show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest. “Both of these judges have come with a different perspective,” he explained. “You know that when you put Nicki, Mariah and Keith [Urban] together, you’re going to get different opinions — which is fantastic. But yesterday, it did go too far, to the point where the producers said, ‘Let’s call it a day.’”

“Despite all the accusations and media speculation — much of which is inaccurate — production is going extremely well today,” the statement continued. “The judges are focused on finding the best talent.”
