Cameron Diaz, Justin Bieber, Robert Redford and Sting were among a slew of stars to pitch in for a special two-hour marathon, Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help, which aired on Monday night. And as of the time the marathon’s broadcast ended, their work netted $1.3 million for the oil-spill clean-up effort.

Bieber, in particular, did his part to encourage the younger demographic to bust open their piggy banks, imploring his fans, 

“The oil disaster in the Gulf has been a big problem. But every little bit can help. There’s no such thing as being too young to pitch in. And this is urgent. What we do now can affect our future. You can donate money or time or anything to the groups that you’ve heard about on this show.”

Country singer Brad Paisley, meanwhile, played his card as a native of Louisiana to urge people to action:

“It’s devastating. Anybody that’s ever been down there will tell you that it’s some of the finest people you will ever meet down in South Louisiana. And they will give you their shirt off their back… And they’re in trouble… It’s just heartbreaking.”

Well, not literally, but Bieber is doing the next best thing: using his singing powers to help raise money for the victims of the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf.

Justin will be appearing in a two-hour telethon special of Larry King Live that will raise money for the United Way, the National Wildlife Federation, and other relief organizations.

Other stars will also be participating in the event, including Tim McGraw, Sting, Pete Wentz, Cameron Diaz, and the Vampire Diaries‘ Ian Somerhalder, a native of Louisiana who has been campaigning tirelessly for Hollywood to get involved in the relief efforts.

The telethon will air on Monday during Larry King Live on CNN.

We think it is very noble of the Biebs to lend a helping hand to the victims–both human and non-human–of the oil spill. The 16-year-old “Baby” singer can’t even vote yet and he is already getting involved. Go Justin!

The Pantless One gave it her all for the environment at New York’s Carnegie Hall on Thursday night, pitching in for Sting‘s annual concert for The Rainforest Fund. Interestingly, the most eyebrow-raising aspect of GaGa’s performance was the choice of songs; the “Bad Romance” chanteuse belted out the Journey chestnut “Don’t Stop Believin’” with Elton John, Sting, Shirley Bassey and Bruce Springsteen, and also took to the piano stool for a poignant rendition of the Ben E. King classic “Stand by Me.”

Sting took to his blog to speak out in favor of the legalization of marijuana and an end to the War on Drugs. Sting said that he feels that the money spent on the War on Drugs could be better spent tackling poverty and global warming and that continuing to keep marijuana illegal is resulting in violent drug wars in foreign countries. From Sting’s blog entry:

The ‘War on Drugs’ has failed – but it’s worse than that. It is actively harming our society. Violent crime is thriving in the shadows to which the drug trade has been consigned.

People who genuinely need help can’t get it. Neither can people who need medical marijuana to treat terrible diseases.

We are spending billions, filling up our prisons with non-violent offenders and sacrificing our liberties.

For years, the ‘Drug War’ has been used as a pretext to lock people in prison for exorbitant lengths of time – people whose ‘crimes’ never hurt another human being, people who already lived at the margins of society, whose voices were the faintest and whose power was the least.

Meanwhile, resources to fight genuine crime – violent crime – have been significantly diminished.

Sting’s comments have already been met with angry comments from anti-drug group DARE who said Sting should “stick to singing and not meddle in matters he doesn’t understand” and that “we do not need pop stars coming out and making irresponsible statements like that.” Because we all know how Sting is influencing the decisions of the kids these days!

While Park City was full of nubile young stars over the weekend (Ashton Kutcher, Brittany Snow and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to name a few) Sting and wife could teach them all a thing or two about sexing it up.

At a Self magazine and MSN Green bash for Sting’s Sundance-entry documentary Crude, the couple showed some major PDA and serious dirty dancing.

“It was amazing,” an onlooker tells Celebuzz. “Sting and Trudie were dancing like a couple of kids. She was hiking her leg up to his waist and just getting down.”

The entire room took cues from the steamy couple and raged on dancing to a set by DJ Spyder, while fellow celebs Denise Richards (reality cameras in tow) and Paris Hilton sipped cocktails in awe of the two.

Kevin Spacey, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, newly single Simon Cowell and Lily Allen were all in attendance.

Also on hand was Sting‘s wife Trudie Styler, 54, who was snapped chatting up Guy Ritchie, 40.

Sting and Trudie famously introduced Ritchie to future wife Madonna in the late ’90s. A decade later, the Material Girl, 50, and the Sherlock Holmes director are now in the final stages of their divorce.

Rumors persist that Madge and her current fling—New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, 33—are looking to settle down in a Manhattan home together.

“I love them both,” Styler said. “They’re both dear friends of mine and all good things sometimes come to an end.”

Well, that’s a very Zen-like approach to the situation, Trudie. Too bad Guy and Madonna don’t really seem to give off that “good things” vibe lately, though.

“Obviously they’ve been struggling for a while. I think they’re destined to become great pals.”

Hmmm. Trudie, you might wanna cough up the dough and attend a Madonna concert at some point. You just might learn a thing or two.
