After weeks of speculation, NBC made things official on Sunday by confirming that Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyers will be taking over Late Night once Jimmy Fallon begins The Tonight Show.

The new job will keep Meyers in the good company of Lorne Michaels, the big boss at SNL and the executive producer of Late Night. Michaels will also serve as executive producer for Fallon’s new gig.

“We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation . . . His years at SNL’s Weekend Update desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise,” NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt said. Added Meyers: “I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car. 12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.”

The 39-year-old joined SNL in 2001 as a cast member before he was promoted to writing supervisor in 2005. In 2006 Meyers became head writer following Tina Fey’s exit.

In early April, NBC confirmed that Fallon would succeed Jay Leno on The Tonight Show at the conclusion of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The show will also move back to its birthplace of New York City.

NBC has yet to announce the premiere date for Late Night with Seth Meyers. Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

The fans were not in favor of Anne Hathaway on the night of the BAFTAs.

Hathaway made for a fashionable yet late arrival during the award show on Sunday night, prompting a less-than-friendly reception from the crowd in London.

“I was so late that I had to run straight down to the end of the carpet and miss all the interviews,” she admitted to Jay Leno Wednesday night on The Tonight Show. “And, the worst part was, I missed the fans. They’re out in the cold and the rain and the sleet, and they booed me.”

Adding, “I got booed, my dress ripped and I had the flu.”

While the first part of the evening went array, not all was lost: the Les Miserables star went onto win the award for Best Supporting Actress during the show (aka the “British Oscars”).

“But it turned out great,” Hathaway quickly added. “I got to hug George Clooney, and that’s the whole point. And, oh yeah, I got a really amazing, prestigious award. That’s pretty cool.”

The Oscar-nominated actress had a good reason for her tardiness, explaining to Leno that the zipper on her custom-made designer dress had ripped — and not even a makeshift sewing attempt could hide the malfunction.

“I look like a turkey that has been sewn together. Just not good,” Hathaway said.

Despite the debacle, Hathaway made a stylish statement at the show, looking glamorous in a studded Burberry gown.

“It’s a perfectly gorgeous dress,” she said.

As she takes a brief break from the awards season hysteria, Hathaway reflected on her Valentine’s Day plans today with hubby Adam Shulman — taking part in Eve Ensler‘s One Billion Rising, a worldwide campaign started by the Vagina Monologues author that aims to use dance to help bring an end toward violence against women.

From the runway to table tops, Heidi Klum certainly knows how to strut her stuff.

The supermodel and Project Runway host appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno to promote her fragrance Surprise, and Klum came armed with another surprise in store — a table top dancing lesson.

The fun all began when Leno showed a photo of Klum dancing on a table during a Golden Globes after party.

“I had fun. I was with my friend Lorraine Schwartz, she’s like one of the best jewelry designers,” the 39-year-old explained. “We were at the Harvey Weinstein party afterwards, and she was like, ‘This party is so boring, we need to do something fun,’ and she’s like, ‘Go and dance on the table,’ so, someone had to. So I did. And, you know, I had a few glasses of champagne and so I was like, ‘Why not?’”

Leading Leno to ask: “Have you ever fallen while dancing on a table?”

“Well, no, ’cause I got skills,” Klum responded. “You just have to get up…”

The reality show host proceeded to climb atop her chair, grabbing Leno’s hand as she got on his desk — and gave viewers the ultimate peep show, thanks to her see-through dress, which put her toned thighs on full display.

Klum continued to bust a move as the band played a cover of Rihanna‘s “Only Girl (in the World).”

Maybe third time’s a charm?

Throughout their two-year engagement, Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson have tried to get married, but there’s been a few speed (err, baby) bumps along the way.

“We’ve had two different wedding dates, but he keeps knocking me up,” the expectant star joked Tuesday on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

While awaiting the arrival of her second baby (exclusively reported by Celebuzz), Simpson remains dedicated to planning her upcoming nuptials.

“We’re doing it very backwards, I know…I’ll just keep my legs crossed, I guess, this time,” said Simpson, who flaunted her pregnancy curves in a low-cut leopard print dress.

When asked if she planned her second pregnancy, Simpson confessed it was a shocking surprise.

“Apparently it was a part of God’s plan for my life,” she said with a laugh. “I was extremely shocked…because I was going through a lot of hormonal changes, trying to get back to the old, vibrant Jessica. You know, it was kind of like a one-night stand. And it happened, all over again!”

This time around, Simpson is vowing to maintain a healthier lifestyle after gaining “‘a lot more [weight] than doctors would recommend.”

“I was really happy to be pregnant and I didn’t ever step on the scale,” admitted Simpson, who was criticized for her eating habits while pregnant with 8-month-old daughter Maxwell. “I didn’t realize you could gain that much weight that quickly.”

 ”I didn’t really make any healthy good decisions,” she added.

With her family life keeping her busy, the proud mom is taking on one additional title: soon-to-be TV star.

Simpson is currently ironing out the details for her in-the-works NBC sitcom, which is loosely based on her real life.

“About a girl getting pregnant?” asked Leno.

“Yes,” Simpson replied about her return to the small screen. “Yes, and how that girl deals with that and everything else…I will be playing myself, which is pretty easy.”

But don’t expect Simpson to name her new show Jessica.

“No…We don’t have a name yet, we’re just now in the process of casting everyone, doing the pilot. I will be playing myself but we’ll have actors playing Eric and my dad. That’ll be funny,” she said.

A new year means new moves for Emma Stone.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the 24-year-old actress revealed her resolution for 2013: taking dance classes.

“I would like to dance more — I am an excellent dancer,” she revealed to viewers.

Determined to bring on the laughs, Leno quizzed Stone on her preferred type of dancing — pole or tabletop.

“Sometimes it is table top, but no, I kind of want to take some dance classes and dance around the house more,” she replied.

To no one’s surprise, Showtime has renewed the Best Drama Emmy winner, Homeland, for Season 3. The show starring Damian Lewis and Claire Danes garnered its best ratings ever last night. Season 2’s fourth episode had a record 1.75 million viewers. Multi-platform stats including DVR and On Demand viewings have increased the total amount of viewers to 5.7 million for its Sept. 30 premiere. Production on Season 3 will begin in Spring 2013. A familiar face will be showing up on The CW’s Supernatural this season. Actor Jon Gries, who appeared on the Season 5 episode, “Sam, Interrupted,” as Martin Creaser will be back in Season 8’s “Citizen Fang.” Sam (Jared Padalecki) will alsk Martin to keep watch over vampire Benny (Ty Olsson) after there are some mysterious deaths in Benny’s hometown. Jesse James is teaming up with the Discovery Channel for a new series, Jesse James – Outlaw Garage. The show will feature the bad boy in his new business venture at the Austin Speed Shop in Texas. As part owner of the shop, he will attempt to take his employees to the next level in making their shop the best in the country. The show premieres Monday, Nov. 5 at 10 PM on the Discovery Channel. Breaking Bad’s Betsy Brandt will pop up on the NBC drama, Parenthood, for one episode. Brandt will play the ex-wife of Ray Romano’s Hank Rizzoli. Hank was last seen kissing Sarah (Lauren Graham) on the emotional show. No airdate has been set for her episode. [TV Guide]

FOX has ordered more episodes of both Raising Hope and New Girl. Raising Hope’s full season will now total 24 episodes instead of the initial 22-episode order. Star Lucas Neff tweeted the announcement. Sophomore comedy New Girl, starring Zooey Deschanel will also air 24 episodes now. [THR]

WE TV has given the greenlight to a new original series, Obsessed with the Dress, which gives viewers a peek into former beauty queen Michele Strom’s dress shop, The Winning Crown, where clients shop for the perfect dress which may increase their chance at a crown. WE also announced it has renewed Kendra on Top and L.A. Hair for their second seasons. All three series will premiere in 2013. [WE]

Dance duo, DJ’s Mix – Jaycee, 9 and Dylynn, 10 –  have won Disney Channel’s “Make Your Mark: Shake it Up Dance Off.” The duo were chosen from more than 90,000 online dance video submissions and will appear on an upcoming episode of Shake It Up. [Disney Channel]

ABC’s Sunday Night lineup was up in the ratings last night. Once Upon a Time rose to 9.7 million viewers up three tenths of a point in the ad-coveted 18-49 demographic. Meanwhile, Revenge and 666 Park Avenue showed 8 percent and 20 percent climbs respectively. NBC won the night with 15.6 million viewers for Sunday Night Football. CBS’ Sunday lineup, delayed because of football, was down for The Amazing Race and up slightly for The Good Wife. [TV Guide]

Jay Leno had some unusually harsh words for his NBC bosses in his monologue on Monday night’s Tonight Show. But the public scolding was only fair; after all the network’s parent company, Comcast, had embarrassed him over the weekend with news that the show, still the most popular in late-night and a mainstay at NBC for more than 50 years, would undergo budget cuts so draconian that 20 staffers were losing their jobs and that Leno himself was taking a stiff pay cut to save the rest of his staff from the layoffs.

“Welcome to The Tonight Show, or as Comcast calls us, The Expendables.” he opened. He suggested that he didn’t understand why Comcast had targeted his show, saying, “We’ve consistently been No. 1 in the ratings, and if you know anything about our network, that kind of thing is frowned upon.” He also joked that he knew something was wrong when he woke up Friday to find an NBC peacock head in his bed, a la The Godfather.

Behind the laughs, however, the grim tidings backstage may have given him pause. Leno’s been around NBC long enough to know that when a late-night host and the network take their battle public, the result is usually ugly. Add to that today’s news that ABC is moving Jimmy Kimmel’s show to 11:35 to confront Leno directly, and viewers may well wonder: is this just the latest in a long line of late-night dustups, or is the very future of the 55-year-old franchise on the line?

What’s the Leno vs. Comcast battle really all about?

As initially reported at Deadline late Friday, Comcast was making the cuts and layoffs even though ad sales remain solid. The real problem, according to the Los Angeles Times, is that the show had been operating on a lavish budget, some $2.3 million a week, the same as it was during Leno’s failed primetime bid in 2009. The Times says the new budget will be more like $1.7 million per week. To save some staffers’ jobs, Leno agreed to take a pay cut from his estimated $30 million annual salary; the Times says he may now be earning as little as $20 million a year.

What’s curious about the Leno pay cut is that he could have taken an even bigger cut without having to sell off any of his famous vintage cars or to suffer any other infringement of his lavish lifestyle. That’s because, in 20 years, he’s never spent a penny of his NBC earnings; rather, he lives entirely off his lucrative weekend standup gigs in Las Vegas and around the country. Presumably, he could have taken an even bigger cut and saved the jobs of the 20 staffers who were let go.

But then, part of this could be an ego issue, as suggested by the wounded pride behind Leno’s monologue on Monday. If Comcast really needed to save money, it could have made the budget cuts discreetly, as CBS did a few years ago with The Late Show, with trims that included a pay cut for host David Letterman. Instead, the cuts became a big news story, big enough for Leno to respond at the opening of Monday’s show.

It could be that Comcast is throwing its weight around, making its presence known at the network it acquired in 2011. Every other star and writer at NBC has to be worried now about where the ax will fall next; after all, if the sacred Tonight and Leno aren’t safe, then who is?

Then again, NBC has a long history of airing its dirty laundry in public, especially when it comes to the battle over late-night turf. It’s a tradition going back 20 years, to when Leno elbowed Letterman out of the way in order to succeed the retiring Johnny Carson. It flared up agan in 2004, when NBC named Conan O’Brien the heir apparent to Tonight, essentially forcing Leno to agree to quit his perch in five years. And of course, there was open warfare in 2010 when Leno’s primetime show failed, and the network squeezed him back into late-night, forcing O’Brien to quit Tonight after just a few months on the job.

So this could all be a case of simple office politics. But what if it’s something worse? After all, the landscape is changing in late-night: it’s getting a lot more crowded. A few years ago, Leno had only CBS’ Letterman as a serious rival for the late-night throne. Now, he’ll also be facing off against Jimmy Kimmel on ABC, and not just after his own show has already been on for half an hour. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC will move JImmy Kimmel Live to 11:35, where it will directly confront Leno and Letterman. The shift, which will bump ABC’s Nightline to 12:35 fafter 33 years in the pre-midnight slot, is one ABC has been longing to make ever since Kimmel debuted a decade ago. That the network feels safe in making the move now attests not just to Kimmel’s growing popularity but also to the scent of blood in the water at NBC and CBS. Perhaps it’s not a coincidence that ABC announced the change, which doesn’t take place until January, just after NBC’s public display of weakness at Tonight.

Besides a newly vigorous Kimmel, Leno also faces challenges from O’Brien on TBS, Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central, Russell Brand on FX (only on Thursdays, but Thursday is still a big night for TV ad revenue because it’s when movie studios buy commercial time to promote their Friday releases), a syndicated show by old Leno rival Arsenio Hall (debuting next year), and Chelsea Handler on Comcast’s own E! channel. Many of these outlets weren’t even players in the late-night arena a few years ago. Now, they’re all vying for the same ad  dollars. Even if Leno remains the most popular guy on the field, the spoils of victory will be a lot more meager.

Leno seems to have been willing, over the years, to go along with every humiliating thing NBC management has ever asked of him (from making nice with local station managers to the six-year Conan debacle), biding his time because he seems to know he’ll still be there in the long run, while suits and competitors come and go. He’s a survivor. But the show itself may not be, and given the squeeze between outside competitors and his network’s own management, the Tonight Show may not survive in a form any of its long time viewers would recognize.

Whether or not you think Lady Gaga‘s new single “Born This Way” is a rip-off of Madonna‘s “Express Yourself,” the young pop singer revealed the Queen of Pop gave her the Madge Seal of Approval for the catchy new song.

Gaga revealed during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday night that Madonna’s people reached out to the “Telephone” singer after music critics began wagging their fingers at the young star for the similarities between “Born This Way” and Madonna’s 1989 hit.

“There is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me,” Gaga tells host Jay Leno. “The good news is that I got an email from her people and her, sending me their love and complete support for the single and if the Queen says it shall be then it shall be.”

Watch out Jake Gyllenhaal: Dane Cook has set his sights on Taylor Swift and he attempted to serenade the songbird on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday night.

“I’m a huge fan of yours,” Dane told a pre-bang Taylor on last night’s show, “America’s Sweetheart right here everybody.” Dane then proceeded to take off his sweater to reveal a “tattoo” of Taylor’s face on his bare chest and began to sing a hilarious song for the “Fifteen” singer.

“Taylor Swift, you’re a gift, give me a lift, to your heart,” Dane sings.

Cook then got the audience to chant “We love you Taylor, Taylor, Taylor Swift” much to the adorable embarrassment of the 20-year-old celeb.

However, his song wasn’t all about Taylor, as he managed to work in a plug for his new comedy CD, I Did My Best, in the middle of the otherwise sweet tune.

Who would’ve thought that fashion-plate Kim Kardashian used to commit the ultimate fashion crime: returning clothes that she had previously worn.

Kim confessed her fashion sins on Thursday to Jay Leno during her appearance on The Tonight Show.

“It’s not right. Now that I own a store, I realize it’s probably not the best thing to do,” Kim told Jay, “It’s not morally right, so I don’t recommend it—but I think everyone’s done it.”

Kim may admit to her previous crimes, but she issued a fair warning to ladies who try to pull similar stunts at Dash.

Conan O’Brien returned to the small screen last night with the series premiere of his highly-anticipated new TBS talk show, Conan.

The former (brief) host of The Tonight Show opened his new show with a hilarious sketch mocking the infamous “Late Night Wars” from January.

Conan was famously pushed out from The Tonight Show when former host Jay Leno was reportedly asked by NBC executives to take back the show. Fans became outraged and Conan eventually left The Tonight Show. Luckily, Coco found a new home at TBS and the rest is basic cable history.

After months of silence, Conan O’Brien has finally revealed the name of his new late night show on TBS.

So, what’s the name? Conan! It’s simple, short and perfect for the hilarious television host.

“I’ve spent millions of dollars, I’ve had media research companies, thousands of people working ’round the clock,” the 47-year-old host joked about how he picked out the name. “Conan: simple, pure, like the man himself.”

Conan famously got ousted as the host of The Tonight Show after only spending a couple of months on the show. NBC gave The Tonight Show back to former host Jay Leno earlier this year and Conan was barred from appearing on TV again until September.

Conan will be joining Geroge Lopez, who hosts Lopez Tonight on TBS. Conan will premieres on November 8th.

Kim Kardashian grew up partying with Hollywood “It” girls like Paris Hilton, but the buxom babe somehow found a way to stay out of any legal trouble. Her secret? A strong family and a distaste for alcohol and drugs.

Kim appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday night and explained to Jay why she had never been pulled over for a DUI or arrested on drug charges:

At a young age, you know, I think my sisters did enough drinking to kind of fill up the whole family so I think from a young age, my dad made it very clear that, ‘OK, you’re the responsible one, you have to watch your sister.’ And he taught me how to drive when I was 14 in case my sister or her friends were going to be drinking, and I had always had permission to drive, or else I had to call him from the destination to the final place…So I always felt this sense of pride that he had in me as the responsible one, so I’ve always wanted to make him proud.

The sister Kim refers to is most likely older sis Kourtney Kardashian since Khloe would have only been about 10-years-old when Kim was 14.

Kim also explains that she hardly ever gets drunk because she “hates the taste of alcohol” and has “never gotten into drugs.” Kim is living proof that you can be a teetotaler and still be sexy.

The 24-year-old British actor dropped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday night. After he sent all the female Twihards in the audience into a frenzy, the actor opened up about how his father (who was in the audience) would give him tips on how to be charming and elegant.

Like most parents, Papa Pattinson sends his kids unintentionally adorable emails, much to the delight of his darling son. Rob decided to share some of the emails with Jay, including one which gave him tips on how to woo the ladies (maybe he was getting tips for winning the heart of co-star Kristen Stewart?).

Papa Pattinson’s seduction tip? Kiss women on their hand when you meet them. Apparently, this is what won over Robert’s mother.

We don’t really think that the dreamboat actor needs any tips on how to seduce women, but kissing women on the hand is probably not going to hurt his chances with the ladies.

UPDATE: President Obama has issued an apology for the joke he made last night referencing the Special Olympics, according to People.

Obama reportedly called Tim Shriver, chairman of the Special Olympics Committee, from Air Force One to apologize before the show even aired.

He expressed his disappointment and apologized,” Shriver reported on ABC’s Good Morning America this morning. “He was very sincere.”

“The President made an offhand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics. He thinks that the Special Olympics are a wonderful program that gives an opportunity to shine to people with disabilities from around the world,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement.

Shriver referred to the slip as a “teachable moment for our country.”

In an unprecedented move, President Barack Obama made a guest appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night on NBC.

Obama was in fine form, throwing one-liners out like an accomplished comedian and clearly giving the lantern-jawed Leno “the most exciting show of my life.”

In an interesting observation, Obama showed off the fact that he’s a man of the people by demonstrating that he watches American Idol just like the rest of us.

“I do think in Washington, it’s a little bit like American Idol. But everybody is Simon Cowell,” he joked about his time in the Oval Office so far, as reported by People.

Mr. President also confessed that he’s a big fan of riding in Air Force One.

“I personally think it’s pretty cool, because they give you the jacket with your name there,” he said.

In his only misstep, Obama made what will surely be considered a controversial quip.

When he bragged that he had bowled a 129 in the White House bowling alley, Leno threw him a bone by assuring him that “no, that’s very good.”

The President smirked at Leno during the applause, and noted that “it’s like Special Olympics or something” at the host’s approval. Whoa!

Apparently, Tom Cruise knows another dance move besides “jump up and down on the couch while yelling maniacally.”

The 46-year-old actor—who’s been on a hot streak of late—was on The Tonight Show on Thursday, promoting his upcoming Nazi epic Valkyrie.

Naturally, the topic of wife Katie Holmes‘ boffo Broadway run in Arthur Miller‘s All My Sons came up.

When lantern-chinned talk-show host Jay Leno asked Cruise if he had ever considered following in the 29-year-old little missus’ live-theater footsteps, Cruise replied, “I like making movies but I’m not saying ‘no’ to Broadway. I would like to do a musical.”

At which point Cruise broke into the Carl Perkins-penned, Elvis Presley-popularized classic “Blue Suede Shoes” and proceeded to flaunt his fancy footwork.
