Leonardo DiCaprio and his real-life buddy Tobey Maguire get all tuxed up for their roles in The Great Gatsby as they both vie for the affections of Carey Mulligan‘s infamous literary character Daisy Buchanan.

Set to be released this Christmas, the movie (headed up by Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann) features gorgeous costumes and lots of glitz. Oh, and a steamy sex scene between Leo and Carey.

Twenty-two people who sued to recoup poker winnings from a crooked hedge fund manager have all settled their cases for a total of more than $1.75 million, Celebuzz has exclusively learned.

“All of the poker defendant cases are settled,” confirmed Howard Ehrenberg, the bankruptcy trustee who sued Maguire and others in a bid to claw back as much as $5.2 million they won from Ponzi schemer Bradley Ruderman, at underground poker games.

“The settlement of every poker related case without having had to incur the cost of taking any of them to trial means that the fund available for the victims has been maximized.”

Ruderman bilked investors out of $44 million in a wire fraud scheme before he was caught, in 2009.

The con man, who was sentenced to 10 years in jail, in 2010, spent at least $8.7 million of investor money on personal expenses, including a summer rental in Malibu and two Porsches. He lost $5.2 of the fund in Texas Hold ‘Em games played on a regular basis at the homes of the Tinsel town card sharks, including Maguire’s, or in five-star hotels in Beverly Hills, such as The Four Seasons, between 2006 and 2009.

Ruderman wrote checks and wire transfers to Spiderman star Maguire, totaling $311,200 to cover poker losses, according to one of the lawsuits filed and later settled. Maguire, 36, was one of the first to settle, agreeing to fork over $80,000 to be dropped from the litigation.

In total, Ehrenberg was able to settle the cases for roughly 30 cents on the dollar. The money will be used to repay victims of the scheme, which Maguire and other players were unaware of.

“To be completely clear: Three of the cases were resolved by default or bankruptcy, so the funds recovered are from 19 cases,” said Ehrenberg.

Other celebrities targeted in a lawsuit launched last June were The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes, Welcome Back, Kotter star Gabe Kaplan, Paris Hilton‘s ex-boyfriend and sex tape partner, Rick Salomon, and record label owner Cody Leibel.

Other A-list stars, including New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, were tied to the poker games, with had a $50,000 buy-in — but like DicCaprio, Affleck and Damon, he was not sued.

Whilst details of the ring’s inner workings won’t get a public airing, Celebuzz has viewed the FBI’s nearly 1,000-page dossier on the case which identified Maguire as the shadowy club’s “best player.”

The sensational files on the sophisticated and organized illegal poker group were created when Los Angeles-based agents spoke to Ruderman, who became their ultimate snitch.

As part of his confession to the Ponzi scheme, Ruderman ratted out Maguire, declaring: “Tobey Maguire is the best player and a winner.”

Ruderman also turned over to the Feds a trove of evidence, including eight boxes of documents and computer drives, which revealed how he wrote seven checks in total to Maguire during a period of just 10 months, from July, 2007, to May, 2008.

Ruderman also sang like a bird to FBI agents Jeremy Tarwater and Steve Goldman about the poker group’s ringleader, Molly Bloom, in the hope that turning informant would deliver him a more lenient sentence for his white-collar crimes.

He said Bloom, the 33-year-old brunette dubbed the ‘Princess of Poker’, preyed on him because he was ”not a good gambler.”

Bloom “was very aggressive to get me to keep playing,” Ruderman said in the interview with the Feds, on April 30, 2009.

While Tobey, 36, and Kirsten, 30, captured our hearts in 2002 with their upside down kiss, real-life couple Emma Stone, 23, and Andrew Garfield, 28, are absolutely adorable in the upcoming trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, hitting theaters this summer, July 3.

Though it’s hard to compete with the Spider-Man/Mary Jane smooch, there’s is a bit of competition with the new cast.

Tobey Maguire was spotted in Australia on set of his latest film, the Baz Luhrmann directed adaptation of The Great Gatsby, and looked rather dapper in a brown, three-piece suit.

Also starring in the film (out Christmas 2012) is Tobey’s good friend Leonardo DiCaprio, who was seen hanging at his Aussie pad with a mystery woman on Monday. While we weren’t sure who she was at first, it looks like her identity has been revealed!

The mystery brunette has been identified as Madalina Ghenea. While we don’t know much about her, we do know they make one gorgeous duo!

The two are currently Down Under filming Baz Luhrmann’s much-anticipated Great Gatsby adaptation, in which they Nick Carraway and Daisy Buchanan, respectively. Tobey’s real-life friend, Leonardo DiCaprio, stars as the titular character.

This is just the latest set of photos of the Great Gatsby cast. Late last week, Tobey and Leo were spotted on the set of the film riding around in a vintage red-and-white car.

We are a tad surprised Baz Luhrmann didn’t pick upstate New York to film the American classic, but we have faith in the director.

Isla Fisher rounds out the cast for the highly anticipated movie- we can’t wait to see more pics!

“I love Tobey Maguire’s interpretation of the character,” Andrew told the small crowd. “It’s one of the things that rekindled and reminded me how much this character means to me. When I watched that first film, that first Spidey film, I lost my mind. I watched it back-to-back. I watched it twice in a row. I liked that story.”

“I had the wonderful fortune of meeting [Tobey] after we finished shooting, I didn’t seek him out, but he sent a very, very, very nice email I think once it was announced to [the producer] basically giving me his blessing. It meant the world to me because I respect him so much as an actor generally, and especially what he did with the role that I’m now assuming.”

The Spider-Man actor was seen picking up his daughter Ruby Sweetheart from school in Santa Monica on Wednesday, and we have to admit, little Ruby is the spitting image of her pops!

So, when can we expect Tobey’s next hit film to hit theaters?

Tobey is set to share the big screen with his BFF IRL Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as Carey Mulligan in the Baz Luhrman directed remake of The Great Gatsby.

No word on when exactly the movie will make its debut, but we have a feeling it will be a major Oscar contender.

Raimi tells MTV that he’s been in talks with franchise star Tobey Maquire about the evolution of Spider-Man and his alter-ego, Peter Parker.

Raimi reveals,

“I’ve been talking with Tobey about where his character might grow to in this installment. [Parker] started as a little bit of a selfish, naive and insecure high school kid,” the director continued. “He learned some lessons from his uncle and a little bit about the meaning of responsibility. In the second picture, [he] wrestled with his personal fulfillment versus that responsibility and, in the third film, I think it was a little bit about his growing hubris, his pride swallowed up and the darkness that came out of that and the grief that it caused for his best friend and his girlfriend and himself.”

So how will all this work to change Peter Parker for this next film, which is being eyed for a spring 2011 release date?

Raimi continues,

“I think it’s about putting his head down and moving forward with the knowledge that he has this responsibility. And it’s about the growth of that understanding, that it encompasses more than just his sense of duty toward others but he also has a sense of responsibility as a human being toward the ones he loves.”

A more mature Spider-Man? Will audiences buy it?

Wired magazine reports that Sony has already given screenwriter James Vanderbilt the go-ahead to write the scripts for Spider-Man 5 and 6, based on the script he wrote for Spider-Man 4.

The fourth big-screen installment of the Spidey saga is due to begin production early next year, with Sam Raimi directing, and Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst returning as Peter and Mary Jane.

Following that, Raimi plans to take on the film adaptation of popular game World of Warcraft.

“I can confirm the Maguires had a baby boy today,” Maguire’s rep announced. “The family is healthy and happy.”
