Salma and her producing partner Jose Tamez have sold an American adaptation of the Argentinean telenovela Los Roldan to ABC.

Salma and Jose famously spun Betty La Fea into Ugly Betty, one of ABC’s biggest hits.

Variety reports that Salma will be taking former Ugly Betty writers Veronica Becker and Sarah Kucserka with her to the new show as writers and executive producers. Los Roldan follows a working-class man who saves the life of a wealthy women and is hired to run her company. Like Ugly Betty, the show mixes drama and comedy.

Becki and her husband of five years, Chris Diamantopoulos, announced earlier today that they are expecting their first child. The only problem? This is going to force the premiere of Becki’s newest series, Love Bites, back to the mid-fall. Oops, but we’re sure that Becki is happy to have a baby on the way.

The 31-year-old actress reportedly met Chris in a New York subway station. Chris himself is an actor and has a recurring role in The Starter Wife with Debra Messing.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

A rep for America Ferrera has confirmed that the former Ugly Betty star is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Ryan Piers Williams. The two first met while attending the University of Southern California, when Williams cast her in his student movie. Score another victory for the casting couch!

Congrats to the happy couple. Let’s just hope that America’s wedding dress is a little more subdued than some of her Ugly Betty get-ups.

This comes just a day after she was seen wearing a hot-dog costume while filming an episode for the show.

No word on why, exactly, the plot of this particular episode calls for her to wear a hot-dog outfit. Maybe, after Paula Abdul‘s guest appearance fell through, the producers realized that they had to do something to fill the weirdness vacuum left by her absence.

First her potential coworker, So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy, launched a dis-fest against the former American Idol judge.

And now, as it turns out, contrary to earlier reports, Paula won’t be guest-starring on Ugly Betty.

The Los Angeles Times reports that negotiations between Abdul and ABC, the network that carries Ugly Betty, have broken down and are past the point of repair.

Abdul would have played a temp worker who buddies up to Amanda at Mode magazine, and the episode was due to begin shooting in the coming week.

Maybe Paula followed in the path of her American Idol negotiations and demanded $10 million for the guest spot?

Further, with Abdul’s name conspicuously absent from the list of this season’s Dancing With the Stars contestants, it’s increasingly unlikely that she’ll be appearing on that show, either, as had been suggested.

Abdul is reportedly in talks to make a guest appearance on Ugly Betty!

EW dishes that her exact role is being kept secret, but it looks like she’ll be playing a new temp at Mode who bonds with Becki Newton’s Amanda.

Other TV gigs fighting for Abdul’s love include Dancing With The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and The View. So far.

Leaving Idol might be the best call she’s ever made.

This is the first child for Ortiz, 38, and her husband, musician Noah Lebenzon.

Paloma—who weighed in at 7 lbs., 10 oz.—arrived at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday in New York City.

“[Ortiz]  is elated and completely glowing,” says a rep for  Ortiz. “She is surrounded by her friends and family and so happy to be a mom. She is just really enjoying the moment. The baby is absolutely beautiful.”

And, no doubt, very fashionable.

It’s good to know that Blonsky (who is scheduled to appear in court on December 1 to face charges of common assault and actual bodily harm) is still getting work despite her legal troubles.

Blonsky and her father Carl Blonsky were involved in a fracas with former America’s Next Top Model contestant Bianca Golden and her family on July 29 at Turks and Caicos’ Providenciales International Airport. The dispute was allegedly over saved seats in a lounge.

Golden’s mother was injured, and both Mr. Blonsky and Golden are also facing charges.

Blonsky on Betty might seem hazardous, but this is the show that employed Lindsay Lohan.  They’re used to at-risk girls.

In an Emmy first, there will be six hosts: Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst and Ryan Seacrest (of course).

Lauren Conrad is also “designing” one of the trophy girl’s gowns. Poor thing. 

Things to look out for are Heidi Klum’s Project Runway (5 noms), Tina Fey‘s 30 Rock (17 noms), America Ferrara for Best Actress in a Comedy, and The Office (2 noms). 

What? No Gossip Girl? Looks like the hit CW show might have to wait for next year’s show to redeem themselves. Sorry, guys!

According to Us, the Ugly Betty actress feels that ”shows like Gossip Girl kind of condition us to be mean.”

She adds, ”Like, if you’re watching The Hills or 90210, all the backstabbing shapes the way we act—you go to school, and you think your job is to find a sworn enemy and be jealous of each other.”

Or, if you’re 90210′s Shenae Grimes, you think it’s your job to do all that at your actual job.

But Ferrara’s own show, Ugly Betty, doesn’t exactly provide a perfect model of female behavior.

Plot lines include a woman stealing a dead man’s sperm and a tranny faking her death to steal a publishing company from her unsuspecting brother.

Then again, Ugly Betty‘s cast is composed of mostly adults. The girls who watch The Hills and Gossip Girl would never imitate anything a gross, old adult would do. Or wear. Ew!

Joining the show’s regular cast were two of the show’s guest stars this season: Lindsay Lohan, who’s portraying Betty’s high-school tormentor, and Victoria’s Secret model/first-rate forker Adriana Lima, who’s playing herself and looking damn good doing it.

Ferrara, meanwhile, was looking highly fashionable, as she always does.

No word on what this particular episode is about, but it will probably involve Betty frantically trying to hold the office together and impose order on her boss’s hectic schedule, while Wilhelmina secretly plots to grab more power and sabotage the workplace.

And Betty will probably have some kind of romantic crisis.

Because they haven’t tackled that particular subject matter yet, and it’s high time that they did.

Bledel enjoyed a seven-year run on Gilmore Girls, as the show’s lead Rory Gilmore. Tamblyn was the Joan referred to in her critically-acclaimed, but short-lived Joan of Arcadia series.

These days, America Ferrera, Betty of the hit series Ugly Betty, and Blake Lively of Gossip Girl brought the red carpet star power to their Traveling Pants.

Becki Newton, Ana Ortiz, Mark Indelicato and Judith Light showed up for the Ugly Betty contingent. Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick represented for Gossip Girl.

Conspicuously enough, Penn Badgley, Blake Lively’s co-star and real-life boyfriend, was  absent from the event. It could have been a simple scheduling conflict. But when these kids star on a show called Gossip Girl, any absence begs for out of context extrapolation.

It’s just so odd to see the one without the other, since they’re so often attached at the face these days.

He’s just as successful in real-life too, with a loving marriage (to his UCLA sweetheart, Anel Lopez-Gorham, btw), and two beautiful children. So what’s his secret? Celebuzz digs up the dish on how to live like Chris!

Beauty:
The Popular and Party of Five star is a natural hottie. We’re going to skip the beauty facts and instead use this section to tell you a little story about how Chris proposed to his current wife of eight years. (It’s worth your time, trust us.)

On the morning of the proposal (Jan 22, 2005), Chris took Anel to Rodeo Drive. He set up a surprise picnic breakfast right outside of Tiffany’s. This way, the couple could have Breakfast at Tiffany’s before going into the store and buying their wedding rings.

Wow.

Body:
As every Ugly Betty fan knows, Chris has something wonderful hidden under his shirt (take a look at this body!) that doesn’t make frequent public appearances.

However, he is seen sans shirt frequently on television (yum). He will probably be shirtless most of the time on his new CBS series, Harper’s Island, which is a horror show about a group of friends who meet on an island for a destination wedding (double yum).

As a sports fanatic, Chris keeps his coveted body in shape by playing basketball, rollerblading, fencing and ballroom dancing with his wife (another awww).

Bites:
In an interview, Chris admitted that he and his wife like going to the Hotel Bel Air for dinner, because “no one under 60 goes to dinner there” and the paparazzi don’t follow them around. Enough said.

Bash:
As a father of two sons, Chris spends a lot of time with his family. In an interview with Parenting Magazine, he said he considers being a parent a privilege. He hopes his children will “make meaning in their lives.” Chris  trained to be a licensed auctioneer with his grandfather in Kansas City while he was growing up, and spends some of his spare time at auctions.

Here’s a sneak peek at Lindsay Lohan guest-starring in the episode in a role she’s done before and quite well, a high school bully.

Tonight, La Lohan’s character is introduced to the series as a blast from Betty’s academic past. She is set to star in six episodes of the series. This clip is a promo revealing a flashback in which Lindsay and Betty are in gym class, engaged in a classic adolescent activity intended to humiliate, dodgeball.

If Lindsay manages to nail the role as well as she did on Mean Girls and in real life, then it’s bound to be a memorable experience—at least one worthy of TiVoing. Let’s see how well she can hold her own against such high-class bitchery as that which is created by formidable onscreen divas Wilhelmina Slater, Marc St. James and Amanda Tanen.
