Both Ben Stiller and Woody Allen have birthdays this week.

Celebuzz celebrated Stiller’s with a look back at his career, and now the Oscar-winning writer and director is getting the same treatment.

From Annie Hall to Midnight in Paris, Woody Allen has crafted a signature comedic voice throughout his 30-plus year career in Hollywood. He’s also proven quite apt for telling more serious stories, as seen with such critically-acclaimed works as Hannah and Her Sisters or Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Javier Bardem sure is a chivalrous fellow. Or perhaps a foolish one.

OK! Magazine reports that the 39-year-old Spanish actor may skip out on tomorrow’s Oscars ceremony to spare his girlfriend, Penelope Cruz, a potentially embarrassing moment.

How so?

It’s an Academy Awards tradition for the winner of the previous year’s Best Supporting Actor statuette to present the award to the new Best Supporting Actress winner. Problem is, Bardem won Best Supporting Actor last year for his work in No Country for Old Men, while Cruz is up for Best Supporting Actress tomorrow for the Woody Allen romp Vicky Cristina Barcelona (in which Bardem co-starred).

And given that Bardem and Cruz are intensely private about their relationship, and he apparently fears that he might get a little too congratulatory if she wins.

“I got an e-mail from a source that said Javier is not going to show because he doesn’t want to acknowledge his relationship with Penelope,” E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic tells the magazine. “They’re a couple that likes to stay under the radar and so meeting on the Oscars stage would blow their cover. Would Javier kiss Penelope if she won? Would they hug? Would they shake hands? He’s worried it could be an awkward scene.”

That’s quite the dilemma. Whatever will Javier do?

Maybe he should take his cue from his No Country for Old Men character, Anton Chigurh, and determine his actions with a coin toss.

After the fracas that was the January issue of UK Cosmopolitan (Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Scarlett Johansson claimed the mag completely fabricated an interview with her), the actress is now gracing the February cover of Harper’s Bazaar.

Until someone issues a denial, you can assume this interview actually happened.

Shy Scarlett, 24, jokes with the mag, “You know, I always try to keep a low profile, which probably makes me the most identifiable person in a crowd. It’s like, There goes that woman in a wig, mustache, and glasses.”

In recent months, Johansson has been keeping that low profile on the cover of Allure, by selling a used tissue on The Tonight Show and being in a flick, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, that was recognized with four Golden Globe nods.

Oh, and she also quietly married her actor beau, Ryan Reynolds, 32, in September…a topic she’s keeping mum on for the moment.

“You have to protect some things, even if it’s a silly detail like who designed your dress,” Scarlett says. “It was private, which is what I really wanted. I’ve never been the girl who thought of the big dress, the big ceremony. I’m more low-key than that. Most people want photographers at their wedding, and for us it was how do we leave them out?”

A topic she’s more willing to discuss with Harper’s is her campaigning for President-elect Barack Obama, who is now less than two weeks away from assuming office.

“I’m absolutely over the moon,” she says of the Obama victory. “If I’m invited to the inaugural party, I’ll be there in a giant gown with the Obama family silk-screened on it.”

ScarJo was infamously dragged through the tabloids for writing personal e-mails to the 46-year-old President-elect during his long shot to the White House.

“Talk about sexist. If I were George Clooney, they would never have written that. I was obviously in a relationship, and people were like, ‘How dare she try to break up his marriage with Michelle?’” says the actress. “I was really mortified, but I learned my lesson.”

According to Page Six, a “well-placed source” says that producers for the Woody Allen flick Vicky Cristina Barcelona—in which Johansson stars—have branded her difficult to work with.

“Scarlett isn’t the same,” says the source. “She’s turned into the biggest prima donna.”

Allen previously directed the lipstick-loving starlet in Match Point, a film where the source claims “everyone said she was a sweetheart…now they say, ‘Scarlett’s let it get to her head.’”

Geez, this gal just can’t seem to catch a break lately.

Maybe she oughtta rethink that whole stance she has on monogamy. Even if it doesn’t stop tongues wagging about her behavior, it’d probably at least make for more peaceful times at home.

Fledgling songbird Scarlett Johansson trilled a few notes about her music career while promoting Vicky Cristina Barcelona, notes Showbiz Spy.

“It was fantastic to do that album. I just worked with such wonderful musicians who are so talented.”

“I would love to do another album. Right now, though, I’d like to focus on developing something to direct.”

Another album? What about another makeout sesh with Penelope Cruz?

And whatever you do, Scarlett, don’t hire your New York, I Love You co-star Blake Lively to star in your directing project. She’ll be too distracted to concentrate.

Pervy Woody Allen handpicked her to tongue-wrestle with the gorgeous Scarlett Johannson, but Penelope Cruz is still down-to-earth about her looks.

And by down-to-earth, that means she must need glasses.

“I don’t think I am beautiful,” Cruz tells Parade. “I can look good and I can look ugly. When I was younger I wanted everyone to look at me. Now I like to watch other people. You can learn a lot of interesting things.”

She totally just said she likes to watch, didn’t she?

In that case, Jessica Simpson‘s got some pretty intimate Internet action going on, Penelope. You know, in case you’re into girls and all.

The new Woody Allen comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona had its premiere in Los Angeles last night. The movie’s stars Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Rebecca Hall joined the director to celebrate the flick’s release.

But all was not sunshine and self-accolades. Johansson told Us Weekly that filming the movie’s much-ballyhooed make-out scene between her and Cruz failed to rev up her libido.

“There were like 60 crewmen eating salami sandwiches!” the alleged Ryan Reynolds fiancée revealed. “It’s really the least sexy thing you can ever imagine!”

Is she kidding? Being surrounded by five dozen beefy unionists sucking down sliced cold cuts, combined with the white-hot eroticism of Woody Allen barking orders at you? And she didn’t get turned-on?

Scarlett Johansson clearly doesn’t know sexy.
