It was also the year that real-life celebrity romance bled into song for such artists as Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

We’re launching a new trivia quiz for each day of play in baseball’s Fall Classic. To coincide with Game 3 on Saturday, we’re offering our third quiz in our series. This one is on the year in television.

2012 was a year when there seemed to be less of interest on the screen than in the drama behind the screen, whether it was the epic search for new hosts and judges for The X Factor, the battles between Community creator Dan Harmon and Chevy Chase (which ended with Harmon’s departure from the show), or the feud between new American Idol judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.

In 2012, the big screen’s biggest movies featured plucky, resolute heroines — think Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Princess Merida in Brave, the underappreciated Black Widow in The Avengers, and Bella in the much-anticipated The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2. It was also a year that hunks like Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy battled for bragging rights as Hollywood’s hottest next-generation leading man.
