Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny are usually the biggest stars on the lot at Valencia, California's Magic Mountain amusement park.  But the cartoon characters played second bananas to charitable parents Nicole Richie, 27, and Joel Madden, 29, this past Saturday.  Nicole and Joel were at the park for fun, frolics and to benefit the kids from Beyond Shelter.

Nicole, whose own daughter, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, will be one year old on January 11, has a long involvement with Beyond Shelter. The Los Angeles nonprofit organization is dedicated to combating chronic poverty, and provides food and shelter to children who would otherwise be homeless.

Nicole supports Beyond Shelter through the Richie Madden Children's Foundation and also with personal appearances (such as at Magic Mountain) and sharing her time with the kids.

Considering the caliber of Nicole's former best friends, the lady has come a long way as a productive and caring member of society.  If only motherhood affected everybody that way.
