Even though Nicole Richie and boyfriend Joel Madden aren't married, a connection binds the two of them—and it's not just their baby girl Harlow Madden. The humanitarian couple have jointly formed the Richie Madden Children's Foundation. Nicole is preparing to launch its website.

The idea behind the charity is a fairly novel one. According to a source that dished to the New York Daily News, "The Web site will be a registry, like for a bridal or shower registry, where low-income women list things they need for their babies." From there, individuals can log on and purchase specific items for those in need.

Motherhood has subdued Nicole somewhat. Less than two years ago, she was driving under the influence while going the wrong way on the freeway. Even after the birth of her daughter, she was spotted getting into a snit after partying all night in Las Vegas and dancing on stage at a N.E.R.D concert.

But maybe a more boring Nicole is a nicer Nicole—one who is less likely to get in a head-on collision with an unsuspecting driver. Also Angelina Jolie's done her part to make philanthropy look sexy to younger, wilder stars.
