No 'Carrie Prejean Day' for Miss California

Sorry, Carrie Prejean. You may have managed to retain your title of Miss California, but there will be no day in your honor in your hometown.

TMZ reports that proposed plans to make June 1 Carrie Prejean Day in San Diego, California—where the beauty queen lives—were shot down pretty quickly and handily on Thursday. Vista Unified School District board members voted almost unanimously—with one holdout—to scrap the idea, in a debate that lasted only 45 minutes.

According to NBC San Diego, Prejean's public opposition to gay marriage factored into the debate. During the hearing, Evelyn Thomas, director of a local Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgendered coalition, told the board, "It is wrong to teach bigotry and discrimination. The reality is, students—your students—are part of nontraditional families."

Others took exception to Prejean's posing for topless photos, and other less-than-wholesome pursuits. Steve Lily, Vice President of the School Board, noted that the district had never honored a student before, and starting with an alum who "had breast implants, posed semi-nude" and harbored ambitions to be a Victoria's Secret model probably wouldn't be the best precedent.

Have your say in the comments section: Do you think the school board made the right decision, or was Carrie Prejean unfairly discriminated against because of her beliefs?

She doesn't deserve her own day... as far as I'm concerned she should have her title taken away. Not because of her own (wrong) opinion, but because she has been lobbying against same-sex marriage, which is a conflict of interest to the Miss California organization. Furthermore, Donald Trump said her opinion only matters because she is so beautiful... really Don? By that logic, ugly people's opinions don't matter? I guess it's true in your case. No one cares what you think on the matter apparently... way to shove your own foot in your mouth

She should be applauded. She took a stand that she thought was right and refused to cave.
