No Same-Sex Couple for 'Dancing With the Stars'

No Same-Sex Couple for 'Dancing With the Stars'-photo
After toying with the idea of including a same-sex couple on the next season of Dancing With the Stars, ABC has abandoned the notion, PopEater's Rob Shuter reports.

A source within the network tells Shuter that the plan fell through after Ellen DeGeneres' wife Portia de Rossi turned down an offer to appear on the show and ABC was unable to come up with a non-controversial replacement:

"If Portia had agreed then this would have been a done deal. She was the only star that could have pulled this off without completely offending the program's conservative viewers."
Now, the source adds, producers have decided to hold off on the idea for a few years, hoping that cultural attitudes change, and don't plan to "rush into creating a same-sex dancing couple just to get attention and publicity."

So, if DWTS won't be spicing things up with same sex competitors, what can viewers expect next season? A big snooze, according to one Hollywood casting director. who suggests that, after Bristol Palin's controversial turn on the show, producers have become even more gun-shy than usual:

"After Bristol, I predict it will be the most boring bunch of stars ever cast next season. When you have a hit as big as this on your hands, everyone is scared to mess it up."
Are you disappointed or relieved that Dancing won't feature a same-sex couple next season? Let us know in the comments section.

No one to see two homosexuals dancing, except the one percent of the population that is homosexual. GREAT move by ABC and "Dancing" to ban same-sex dancing. Enough of showcasing immorality.

If Jesus didn't say anything about being a pedophile, does that mean He condones it? Didn't think so, nor does He condone gay sex.

To say that same sex relations among animals is common is utterly ridiculous. Yet another exaggerated claim from the gay group. Utter stupid comment.

Oh, please. Like no one has ever gone, say, contra dancing, and ended up with a same sex partner. Ballroom dancing is not sex, and two women dancing together isn't necessarily gay (even if one half of the pair is). Some of you people are idiots.

Ok. What I don't understand is, why does ABC even have same sex couples on some of their shows? i.e, One Life To Live, Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy? Seriously cause I can go on and on. To top it all off they KNEW that Adam Lambert was going to do some risque stuff in his performance at the 2009 AMAs. If anything, ABC is absolutely the most hypocritical network I ever experienced watching. Dancing With The Stars with all the bullsh*t I've seen this season, is no excuse for all the crap that's been done in past seasons. Saying that the show is not ready for same sex couples, well you were born ready to have the kind of show were class was thrown out the window for trash. I swear ABC with their so called "standards". What "standards"?! Bunch of dumb f*cks. I wish this show was cancelled so that everybody can get off each others backs. ugh....

People need to get over homo/bisexuality. It's a normal part of nature that has been happening since the dinosaurs. IT'S NOT GOING TO GO AWAY!!!! Get over it!!

I voted against Prop 8 in California and support gay rights, same sex-marriage, etc., but at the same time, I do ballroom dancing as a hobby and I'm a hardcore traditionalist. There are two things in life best left to a male and a female: Making babies and ballroom dancing!

When I read comments like the ones above, I don't feel sad for gay people, and how people view their life style, but I do feel bad for the people making the comments. That these people haven't lived life out of their shells, seen the world. They just sit in their house watching dance competitions. If you got away from your TV, met these "unnatural" people, that Jesus would love AS much as yourselves, your world view would change immensely. What were the bibles views on dancing provocatively dressed?

Well we know what Jesus Christ said about it. Nothing. He did say to love your neighbour which an awful lot of Christians seem to have a problem doing!

Ask God what he says about this. One day we all will know what the Bible says.

Oh my goodness, so much hatred on this comments. It's very sad. Unnatural? Joy, I think you need to do a little research.. gay sex in the animal kingdom is actually common.
