Hey, Paris Hilton and Benji Madden? Why the dour expressions and death-black get-ups?

It seemed like just the other day that the world was taking comfort in reports that Benji had finally house-trained Paris and was turning her into a mature, thoughtful human being who filled the universe with laughter.

Some observers even wondered if all that happy-couple stuff was making the two of them a little boring.

But as they strolled through New York City this weekend, their faces and wardrobes betrayed clear indications of turmoil.

Is Paris pining for a certain unattainable soccer stud?

Or is the couple, like everyone else, merely concerned about the growing fractiousness in the once-unified Hollywood community?

Let's hope they snap out of their dourness soon. Because show-biz has enough gloomy couples roaming the planet as it is.
