Paris Hilton and Benji Madden Stump for Sobriety
Wow; the alcohol-awareness industry is developing a pretty keen sense of irony.
Socialite/humanitarian Paris Hilton and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, attended Sober USA Day 2008 at a private estate in Beverly Hills on Saturday. The event was presented by the Brent Shapiro Foundation for Drug and Alcohol Awareness.
That’s Paris Hilton. Who, after being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, ignored a court order to enroll in an alcohol education program. And was again arrested for reckless driving, on a suspended license. And spent a grand total of about five minutes in jail for all of the above.
But hey, at least she’s making up for it all now by, uh, attending a party. Which is a pretty big sacrifice on her part. Anyone who knows anything about Paris Hilton will tell you how much she hates going to parties.
Maybe she felt obligated because the foundation’s namesake, aside from being the son of super-lawyer Robert Shapiro, was a friend of Paris’ who died from a combination of drug and alcohol ingestion in 2005 at the age of 24.
Hopefully she’ll remember this evening’s lessons whenever she climbs behind the wheel of a car in the future. Perhaps she should write it down and tape it to the dashboard; for some reason, she doesn’t seem like she has the best memory.
