Paris Hilton Offered Plea Deal
Don't worry about Paris Hilton; it doesn't appear that she'll be trading in her designer duds for an orange jumpsuit anytime soon.
E! Online reports that the celebutante—who was arrested for alleged cocaine possession in Las Vegas last month—has been offered a plea deal that would keep her out of jail. According to the terms of the deal, Hilton would plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges, one drug charge and one charge of lying to a police officer. (Hilton initially told the cops that the purse that the cocaine was found in belonged to a friend—a claim that lost much of its plausibility when it was discovered that she had tweeted about buying an identical purse a month before the arrest. She also told police that she thought the cocaine was gum.)
The former Simple Life star is currently facing a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, which carries a minimum sentence of a year in jail and a possible fine of up to $5,000.
It's not yet known whether Hilton will take the deal. Her arraignment is scheduled for October 27 in Las Vegas. Hilton's attorney, David Chesnoff, has yet to return E!'s call for comment. While the Clark County District Attorney's Office did not comment specifically on the alleged deal, a spokesperson noted,
"This charge is probationable, so the court could sentence her to a term of probation, rather than prison time."
