In case the 1989 cinematic classic Road House didn't already make this clear, Patrick Swayze is one tough SOB.
Despite announcing in March that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the actor has signed on to star in the upcoming A&R Network series The Beast, slated to air in early 2009, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Set to begin production this summer in Chicago, the series casts Swayze as a veteran FBI agent attempting to school his newbie partner in his unorthodox ways while being hounded by an internal affairs team.
"I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this mutilayered, unpredictable and downright entertaining, as well as a project this current and cutting-edged," Swayze announced in a statement.
The series, which will be the second original scripted series for A&E, has been green-lit for 13 hour-long episodes.
Swayze, who has been cleared to work by his doctor, shot the series pilot three months before discovering that he had cancer, according to E! Online. Despite earlier rumors that he had only five weeks to live, the actor and his doctor have both emphasized that Swayze has been "responding well to treatment" at the Stanford University Medical Center.
Go get 'em, Swayze. If you can come back from the dismal Father Hood, you can bounce back from anything.

YAY! great for him :)
He is amazing. How can someone be so active right after undergoing cancer treatment?
I hope to God that he lives a long long time. But it looks like he's trying to do as much as possible before he dies. I hope it all works out for him...
What role HASN'T Swayze portrayed? He's done everything.
At first I thought it said, Patrick Swayze Breast Cancer.
