BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA: Django Unchained
Quentin Tarantino’s recent experimentation with revisionist history has proven to yield some of his most entertaining work. And make no mistake, Django Unchained is the best type of Hollywood entertainment: Great performances serving a “wish-I-wrote-that” script from a director who gets away with loving the sound of his own words a bit too much only because we love it more. This bloody revenge epic, set against the backdrop of pre-Civil War America, is Exhibit A of why we keep going to the movies. Chances of winning: Solid, but not guaranteed.
