BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA: Life of Pi
For years, Life of Pi existed firmly in Development Hell. But Ang Lee turned what was supposedly “unfilmable” into one of the most finnanically and critically successful films of 2012. The simple set-up of a boy lost at sea, with only a very unpredictable tiger to keep him company, gives way to a compelling tale of how finding faith in oneself is just as worthy a pursuit as that which we often seek in a higher power. The film’s impressive CG and visuals are only rivaled by the emotional heights the story reaches for and delivers. Chances of winning: Unlikely, but still a contender.
