BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY/ MUSICAL: Moonrise Kingdom
As twee as a Doctor Who fan and artsy as a student of Jean-Luc Godard, writer/director Wes Anderson re-teams with filmmaker Roman Coppola (spawn of Francis Ford) for the ever-quirky Moonrise Kingdom. A story of young, starry-eyed love, the film follows two young children who flee their summer camp retreat to frolic on an island of their own, typically Anderson-esque design. When their escape triggers a manhunt of quirky townsfolk, hilarity and oddball shenanigans ensue. Light, airy and crafted with deft sophistication, Moonrise Kingdom is as clever as it is sweet. Chances of winning: Deserving, but unlikely.
