While DiCaprio was robbed of a nomination, Quentin Tarantino’s bloody revenge epic deservedly scored key nods for Best Picture, Screenplay and Director. Controversy has driven the film into the spotlight, but its sweet-spot Tarantinoesque genre pastiche, contextualized in the true horrors of America's sordid history of slavery, makes this a left-field choice that just might catch on with voters as the ceremony approaches.
