Life of Pi
Director Ang Lee turned a book that many thought was unfilmable into a worldwide-box office success and a Best Picture contender. Pi’s masterful visuals are only matched by the story’s emotionally complex themes of faith and loss - and how using the former can help one find strength when facing the later. It uses the simple set up of a boy lost at sea – with only a Bengal tiger to keep him company – to explore religion in ways few modern studio pictures dare to tackle, resulting in one of 2012’s most rewarding film experiences. While Pi managed to score 11 nominations – including Director and Picture – it faces some stiff competition in the major categories. However, fans can expect the film to be a big winner in the technical areas.
