It was all started with a mouse — Mickey Mouse, that is. The character made his debut on May 15, 1928 in the cartoon short “Plane Crazy.” Since then, over the past 84 years, Mickey has been the mascot for The Walt Disney Company, and signifies Walt Disney himself. In 1929, Mickey landed his first-ever speaking role in “The Karnival Kid.” His first spoken line? “Hot Dogs!” In his red shorts, white gloves, and large yellow shoes, Mickey can usually be found with his leading lady, Minnie Mouse, in tow. Although they’ve never had an official on-screen wedding, Disney studios said in 1993 that in their private life, the happy mouse couple is indeed married.
