While it may be true that she needs this to stand out, I do not agree that this is why she’s doing it. I think she’s batsh*t insane, and therefore awesome. I think your description best applies to Katy Perry who can be quirky, and is really trying to bring that out to stay relevant. But Lady Gaga’s just truly daliesque insane (I’m not saying her talent compares to Dali, just her insanity). There’s a pretty neat Slate article on her you ought to read.
