The 10 Best Moments in ‘Harry Potter’ History
5 TheIntroduction of Luna Lovegood
5. TheIntroduction of Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, 2007):
Evanna Lynch was as hardcore of a fan as hardcore fans get before the films changed her life. She was living in Termonfeckin, Ireland, and regularly corresponding with J.K. Rowling over the regular Muggle postal service, when, unbeknownst to the aforementioned author, she went out for an open-call audition to become Luna Lovegood . Luna was her favorite character, and she was dying to bring her to life, and told Rowling this often - but with the caveat that she knew it was a long shot, that nothing exciting ever happens in her town. J.K. Rowling responded not to lose hope, or to be too hard on Termonfeckin - after all, she said, it had a lovely name. When the improbable happened and Lynch - a dead ringer for and true embodiment of the airy, wise, Lovegood - was cast, J.K. Rowling had nothing to do with the decision. She found out via the film's producers and did a massive double-take when she saw the name. Soon after that the world similarly fell in love with the light-voiced sprite as everyone's favorite Ravenclaw. Her turn in Order of the Phoenix felt, to the nucleus of the fandom, like they had truly been represented on the silver screen, and she remains a fan favorite.
