With Britney Spears' latest hit "Womanizer" being lodged in the upper reaches of the charts for weeks, Celebuzz is posing a question to readers both here and at BritneySpears.com: How does the song stack up against previous lead singles from Britney's albums?
To jog your memory, here's a run-through of the pop star's hits that kicked off her earlier LPs:
1. "...Baby One More Time" (from ...Baby One More Time, 1998): Britney launched her career with the help of producer Max Martin, the video's stellar dance moves and a bit of naughty schoolgirl edge.
2. "Oops!...I Did It Again" (from Oops!...I Did It Again, 2000): Martin and Britney teamed up again and proved that the singer wasn't about to suffer any sophomore slump. The spacey video helped ensure that Brit would be a TRL staple for many years to come.
3. "I'm a Slave 4 U" (from Britney, 2001): The singer turned to the Neptunes to explore a new, more urban sound. The steamy video's bump 'n' grind dance moves marked a transition of Brit's image into more adult territory.
4. "Me Against the Music" (from In the Zone, 2003): Spears' longtime dream came true when she got to duet with her idol Madonna. One of the track's two producers, Chris "Tricky" Stewart, would later go on to collaborate with Rihanna on "Umbrella."
5. "Gimme More" (from Blackout, 2007): By this point in Britney's career, she was a major global star and a household name. "Gimme More" previewed Blackout's "life through a camera lens" theme and became Spears' highest-charting U.S. single since her debut.
That brings things us up to "Womanizer," the first song off Britney's upcoming December 2 release, Circus. Hit up the poll and let us know which is your favorite of Brit's lead singles!
