Portia de Rossi: "Marriage Changed Me"

Portia de Rossi says her development has been anything but arrested since marrying comedienne/talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres in August.

The 35-year-old Australian actress (born Amanda Lee Rogers) tells People magazine that the couple's marriage has "completely changed my life." 

Though the couple has been together since 2004, de Rossi says that it's an entirely different ball game once the vows are exchanged—and she means it in a good way. 

"Marriage is a different way of being together," de Rossi notes. "There's a peace to [being married] and a sense of togetherness that we just didn't have before. And I didn't even realize it would change as much as it has, but it's so lovely."

De Rossi admits that the transformation that occurs with an officially committed relationship was an eye-opener for her. "It's legal, and it's real, so there's that kind of formality to it that makes it very valid," the thesp, who portrays Veronica in the upcoming ABC comedy Better Off Ted, says. "I think the emotions that went with that as a gay woman kind of surprised me – that I would be that relieved to have my mother be present at the ceremony to bless the union, and to call [Ellen] her daughter-in-law."

The only uncomfortable aspect of their union, de Rossi notes, is that she'll inevitably have to go on her 50-year-old wife's show to promote her new series. 

"She'll make it flawless, and I'm excited to talk about the show," de Rossi says. "I just hope she doesn't ask any personal questions. That's off limits!"

Might as well start bracing yourself for the awkwardness now, Portia, because making her guests uncomfortable with personal questions seems to be your girl's trademark.
