Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Engaged!
It's official: Prince William and longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton are going to tie the knot. It's a royal wedding!
People magazine had initially reported the wedding, and now the Prince himself has confirmed the news that the pair -- both 28 years old -- are indeed set to get married.
In the Prince's official statement, he says:
The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton's father.
Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.
People also speculate that the wedding will be the biggest in British royalty since Diana's epic wedding with Prince Charles.
Middleton has become something of an icon in England, as her family has a bit of rags-to-riches story even before the Royal Family was involved. Her parents -- both initially in the airline business -- started a mail-order business that turned them into millionaires.
William and Kate met more than eight years ago, while the two were studying together in Scotland.
